@@lauch4562 the interesting thing about Assassins Creed is that it represents many lesser known historical details in terms of the events of the period. The way the cities look and feel. The backstories of the various historical figures etc. Yet the Assassins themselves are completely unrealistic. Their presence can at times seem almost comical. In the first game at least they are somewhat secretive so you can suspend your disbelief. By the second, they are a full on global militia. They shape historical events in ways that are completely unfathomable. Their outrageous, ridiculous costumes are noticed even by passing civilians in the game.

@@azcreative5514 I don't believe it was ever meant to be taken so seriously though. It's fiction. Based off of a novel called Alamut and went from there. I love it not for its accuracy but for getting me interested in medieval and renaissance history. Not to mention the characters in the first few games were brilliant when the writers actually cared about the story.

You forgot a very important aspect of this sect, which is the derivation of their name. Assassin comes from the word Hashashin (hashish), a narcotic drug that the Ismaelis and this offshoot branch in particular used to consume, and under whose effects they committed their assassination acts. Hassan Ibin Sabah drugged his subjects to be “awaken” in the garden of paradise, that he had built in the backyard of the castle at Alamut (which you referred to) for a brief moment, to show them the wonders that awaited them upon completion of their suicidal handy works.

I just wanted to suggest researching the connection between Islamic assassins and Baal worship assassins who also indulged in getting high as ritualistic preparation for their training and service. Hashish use is the material connecting factor. One may infer connections between Baal worship and the more mystical Islamic traditions worshipping Allah.
It has been over a decade since last I read up on these topics. Perhaps even two decades now, but there is substantive academic material available.
