  • Testing the In/Out Tennis camera system with serves. I think I only saw one mis-call, and it was on the far side. I didn't realize how much the device moved when the ball hits the net. I will need to look into that. There was also a handful of balls it didn't register at all... a couple one the far-side, and one or two on the near side.
    I think it's a pretty amazing device...

    are you still using this device? with the speeds of your serves does it come on screen instaneously or do you have to sync with the cloud to obtain it? i have V4.0

      No, I haven't used it in a couple of years. From what I recall, the last 10 balls show on the screen. But then you can download the data to get the full history.

    I used the In/Out again today. I put the feet on it, which lifts it off of the net wire a bit more - it hardly moved at all when the ball hit the net. However, you can’t store the L bracket in the case with the feet on... you have to take them off and put them back on every time.

    Hey, why the battery suddenly got recharged at 8:30, I just curious because you've been playing for 10min and it drops to half charge

      The battery symbol is buggy, I think. I don't remember exactly how I had this set up, but I have been using a 10,000 mAh battery pack, because one battery won't last an entire match. So I may have had the battery pack plugged in...

    Ahmm...are we thinking the mph on these serves are accurate, or does it need some sort of calibration? It looks like you are barely tapping them in and registering in the mid to high 80s.

      Good question... it depends on how nerdy of an answer you want. There's no way to calibrate speed. The only calibration is to find the court lines, and I think everything else is based on that. I did this video with the "L" bracket that came standard with the device. I found that when you hit the net, it moves the In/Out device quite a bit, and it loses its calibration (with the court). I have since bought the carbon-fiber bracket, which is much more robust. I think the carbon-fiber bracket is a must. They should just ditch the L bracket and sell the carbon fiber housing.
      I have also since learned that when you sync your session file with the cloud, you can download the raw data. It includes LOTS of data, including:
      ballSpeed: The speed of the ball in mph calculated out of the racket
      impactSpeed: The speed of the ball in mph when it bounces
      Here's a couple examples from one session:
      "ballSpeed": "80.012", "impactSpeed": "57.152"
      "ballSpeed": "79.513", "impactSpeed": "56.795"
      "ballSpeed": "87.212", "impactSpeed": "62.294",
      So, it's possible that the In/Out is displaying ball speed off of the racket, not impact speed. If I do another experiment, I will be sure to compare what the display says against the file to see which it displays.
      But beside that, it's using the camera to try and determine ball speed... I don't know how accurate that will really be with ONE camera...

    Where did you buy this device

      inout.tennis... be sure to get the carbon fiber cage. The L bracket moves way too much, but the cage is much more robust. We also found that 2 devices improves the probability of one device seeing a ball much better.... haven't tried the line devices.
