I'm Nigerian and my mum used to thread my hair a lot when I was younger. When I started my natural hair journey my hair was always dry when I threaded it then I realised that I had to moisturise then thread and it was all good after that
You can use yarn for threading the hair, it’s even better for beginners, you have more to hold on your hands, sewing thread are too thin sometimes too dry for people who already have dry hair. Or you can search for anango thread, it’s an African rubber thread, it will keep the hair moisturize and the length retention better than any thread out there.
I'm convinced you are my influencer. I see the direction my afro is growing.⬇️⬇️⬇️ We have similar texture and I don't like tension on my scalp. Twists work best for for my tight low porosity coarse coils. I also dislike the dryness blow outs give so African threading works well.
I just stumble on your videos when i typed long 4c hair and your video came up , i have watched a lot of your videos so far and i was sooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy when i found someone on youtube with the same exact hair type as me that i can relate to , you have no idea how you just inspired me to keep going on with my natural hair Journey i mean you have no idea, your videos are amazing and trust me your videos are reaching people all over the globe cause I'm all the way in Turks and Caicos Islands which is located in the caribbean. Girl just keep doing what your doing
My mother had been threading my hair since i was a child it is very common in DRC as well. Oh how i wished i had carried on in teenage years. I started doing it again since last year and i can see already soo much growth and it keeps my hair moisturised.
I really really like this! I can’t believe I forgot about this process. I did this a very long time ago with yarn on starter locs. Will definitely get back to this on my own hair for stretching and growing out process. Thanks for mentioning the different amount of time you can leave it in for and also for mentioning the product you use for moisturizing prior to threading! Excellent!
I have always wanted to learn how to do this and your vid was very detailed, thanks so much for sharing im going to buy that thread and try this. great tutorial doll
It stays for about a week. until my next wash I wash it on weekends. As for moisture Im not there yet, I dont have a lot of products so I use a water based hair food gel and oil moisturizer.
most african grocers have them ie afrocan on jane off wilson, and in brampton theres another grocer on jane by lawrence new era off albion and islington if they sell hair products they have the thread
I also buy it at the African store by Jane and Finch called Mosaic African Foods Wholesalers off Eddystone...they also sell raw shea butter for a good price. Straight from Ghana, it comes from the barrel.

Thank u for this detailed vidéo. At Last i understood how to do this on my kinky curly hair. Are there différent size (diameter) of thread ? You are very pretty 😍
Goodness the thread... my mom would do that al the time on my hair and my hair would be long and soft but she tied it so tight it made my hair look like a stiff spider...now I appreciate what she did but It’s not worth the head or hand ache from tying so much lol
