Hey bud thank you appreciate that 👍 yep I remember, my only concern is you would be disappointed with the tailgate as up close it does have a fair bit damage and dents and I did have to strip everything off it. I appreciate the feedback on the paint line 👍

Did t6 tailgate conversion on my t5, which was previously a barn door model, did this 4 years ago and paid 360 plus 50 carriage for the Tailgate and was really smashed in, required a lot of repair work. One of the best things I did; love having shelter from the rain and a clothes airer when we are camping in Cornwall 👌
Hey Matt that’s a good price 👍 I have barn doors on my caddy and would love to do a swap on that. I’ve seen posts people going from doors to tailgate and yes I can imagine they are very handy for camping 👍

So apparently some of the parts can be used from the t5. I was told the hinges are unique to the T6 but apparently the ones from the t5 can be used. There is a donor t5 which had a tailgate earilier (it is gone now) but still has the wiring loom for it, the hinges and a couple of other bits, hopefully all will fit the T6 door I have. Also the tail lights I have are different, they have a plug that has 2 rows of pins instead of one row of six whilst at first sight they look exactly the same. I'll have to have some research if there are different lights for the tailgate T6 which would not make any sense whatsoever.
The micro switch trick with the locking mechanism, would that work with my barn door locking mechanism, as i am converting mine to a tailgate, thanks 👍

I know your vw guy , But id love you too find a mk 2 ford granada 2.8 ghia or ghia x down your way ,not many up north .The best colour ive seen is Marakesh brown on an E38 and an E30 .THAT COLOUR ROCKS .
what do you reckon to bringing the dark grey up diagonal on the side of van to top of tailgate ,like the a team van but from further back and the whole tailgate in dark grey🤨😆with the slightly raised back would give it a nice aggressive look i reckon. great vids , what ever you do it'll be good enough for the girls we date 😆if only that was true

Barn to tailgate on the Caddy is more straightforward -having looked closely at both, all the fittings are already in place. Get it done and make a vid so it's easier for me! Also, you'll be putting a reverse camera VW logo on the rear of both, won't you? I'd paint to the swage line. Not a fan of 2 tone but it's your van.

my tailgate sits slightly proud out on the one side. Any idea how to pull it in? the other side is flush with the lights, just the other side is about 5mm sticking out.
Have you done a tailgate swap? Interesting as mine pokes out to, the drivers side sits very nice but passenger is slightly out. I did tweak mine in loads but it’s abit scary, you need to put a piece of wood in the bottom corner that’s sits tight while someone pushing the tailgate against it while you force the other side in and it tweaks the tailgate to fit better. Hopefully you get what I mean 👍
@YTDTETV ye it seems frightening. I'm wondering if there's bolts inside that pulls it. Thinking along the lines of how patio doors adjust. No not dome a swap
@@taffofwales6814 there’s bolts but the adjustment is very minimal, has it always been like it? So my tailgate was damaged when I got it and I think the last owner had caught the tailgate with it open causing it to tweak out of shape.
@YTDTETV when I bought the van the drivers side was out. The bloke said when it was rac van they caught the tail lift but the new tailgate was fitted. Day after I bought the van someone drove in to the back when when it was repaired was hoping it straightened the tailgate but now the passenger side sticks out lol. It's about 4 to 5mm out. Are the bolts inside the roof looking out the back or the hinges ontop?

I want to try this but on my mk3 caddy and put a late mk4 tailgate on so I've a solid metal tailgate instead of having a window

Colour change at the swage line, from where I was looking it does follow as you pointed out, off the rear lights, good old geometric shapes 😀

Hey Richard yes I used everything from the T5 👍 I looked on eBay for T5 hinges and they are the same from 2004 to 2019 apparently 🤷

Where did you wire the number plate lights to , I’m having a mere can’t find any information cheers
I used the old loom and in that loom is the old plug for the number plate lights so just piggy backed off that 👍

Brilliant video! Does the new tailgate open ok on the original t5 struts? I’ve done the same conversion, but the tailgate doesn’t fully open heigh enough….. 🤔. Any thoughts..?

Barn to tailgate on the Caddy is more straightforward -having looked closely at both, all the fittings are already in place. Get it done and make a vid so it's easier for me!
Also, you'll be putting a reverse camera VW logo on the rear of both, won't you?
I'd paint to the swage line. Not a fan of 2 tone but it's your van.

I’d say go with the lower line for the two tone on the door.

my tailgate sits slightly proud out on the one side. Any idea how to pull it in? the other side is flush with the lights, just the other side is about 5mm sticking out.
Have you done a tailgate swap? Interesting as mine pokes out to, the drivers side sits very nice but passenger is slightly out. I did tweak mine in loads but it’s abit scary, you need to put a piece of wood in the bottom corner that’s sits tight while someone pushing the tailgate against it while you force the other side in and it tweaks the tailgate to fit better. Hopefully you get what I mean 👍

I'm wondering if there's bolts inside that pulls it. Thinking along the lines of how patio doors adjust. No not dome a swap
@@taffofwales6814 there’s bolts but the adjustment is very minimal, has it always been like it? So my tailgate was damaged when I got it and I think the last owner had caught the tailgate with it open causing it to tweak out of shape.
@YTDTETV when I bought the van the drivers side was out. The bloke said when it was rac van they caught the tail lift but the new tailgate was fitted.
Day after I bought the van someone drove in to the back when when it was repaired was hoping it straightened the tailgate but now the passenger side sticks out lol.
It's about 4 to 5mm out. Are the bolts inside the roof looking out the back or the hinges ontop?
