    As a german LEO I can say that in bigger cities EVs make a lot of sense. The medium to low speed that is driven in cities and the amount of time you often just stand around in your car greatly qualifies EVs for use in cities. Range is also not really a problem and with newer cras that are able to charge upwards of 75% in less than twenty minutes it's ideal for charging at the station when you've got some paper work to do. We already use EVs in some german cities and the results are promising...

There are no more oil changes, no worrying about transmissions, etc. You literally only have to worry about occasionally changing breaks, swapping tires, and refilling the wiper fluid. I would rather my tax money goes to something like this that actually SAVES money than an expensive and wasteful ICE car.

    • @Kiwi-rn4pp
      @Kiwi-rn4pp ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ProXcaliber It doesn't save money at all because the battery goes bad and it's still ridiculously expensive to replace. Tesla charges 15k for a new Model 3 battery, for that money you can get a new ICE car. and then there's the fact that the battery degrades with use like a smartphone, so range gets worse. Whereas a 20 year old Crown vic will run like new with just basic maintenance

    • @ProXcaliber
      @ProXcaliber ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kiwi-rn4pp You are thinking on consumer levels, while this is on a fleet level. The savings on maintenance alone will easily offset the cost of battery degradation and replacement. As an example, there is a reason Amazon is investing so heavily into Rivian to give them EV delivery vans. The savings are astronomical when you are talking about hundreds or thousands of cars. This is also the reason that large electric trucks are also in high demand. These companies would not be investing in EVs so heavily if they didn't save money and increase profit margins.

    Those states can develop more electric police cars. Not all of the electric vehicles. It was California, New York, and Washington State are the ones that will phase out the gas powered vehicles in 2035.

    By adding those big lights, they will be reducing range dramatically by increasing drag. Additionally, the ford cannot charge any faster than a typical stage 2, which is at least 4 hours.

    • @mrallelectriccarlunacy
      @mrallelectriccarlunacy ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s NYC, not LA. Drag is negligible at the road speeds NYPD operates at.

      @mrallelectriccarlunacy ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not to mention what you said about charging is just plain wrong. Mach-E supports DC fast charging the same as any other modern car. 10-80% in 45 minutes is what I’ve read, and that’s only if they need to top up during an unusually long day.

    • @Anthony-hc7ej
      @Anthony-hc7ej ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not at all. Drag applies to any speed when talking range. All EVs, outside of Tesla do not have access to level 3 charging. Tesla is slowly rolling out access, but the chargers shown here are Level 2, which is considered “fast charging” but not as fast as it needs to be to support a 45 min charge as you’ve stated. The Level 2’s have the same power as a dryer (220). Although more than than a typical plug (110), most EVs being built do not obtain a full 220 charge. The label “DC fast charging” is misleading and heavily dependent on the charge and type of battery, similarity the way we use the terms “organic” and “free range.”

      @@Anthony-hc7ej Anthony-hc7ej (auto-gen bot name?), that’s another lie. DCFC using the widely-known CCS connector standard charges non-Tesla vehicles as fast as 350kW, depending on the model. Respected publications like Motortrend note that Mach-E fast charges 10-80 in either 38 minutes or 45 depending on the battery size. You’re straight up lying, trying to make it look like it’s a contested fact. Hundreds of TH-cam channels post their experience with these exact cars and chargers.

    • @Anthony-hc7ej
      @Anthony-hc7ej ปีที่แล้ว

      Your missing the main point, LEVEL 2 charger (the charger itself) does not have a high enough output to charge a car in 45 min. As someone who actually owns multiple EVs, your not getting the same charge as you would a Level 3. The NYPD only owns Level 2 as shown in the video. This is the exact reason why Biden wanted Tesla to open the charging network. ElectrifyAmerica offers some Level 3 but no nearly as much as Tesla. There are a few variations of Mach-e with different batteries and charging speeds. Again, it doesn’t matter what battery you have if your not at a Level 3 or 4 charger, your not charging under an hour if your at 10%. FYI, no car is charging at 350, even teslas (most throttle back to protect the components). Current tesla’s get 250 usually except the RWD M3 that’s getting 220. The Mach e’s are getting about 140, although they do get 160 in the first couple of minutes. They are advertising 350 for future use, but again if your at a Level 2, your not getting anything close to that. ONLY Level 3’s have the ability to go up to 350. Here is a great article from a reliable source: www.kbb.com/car-advice/fastest-charging-electric-cars/
      Good luck with your reading of the Ford pamphlet (No one fact checks them btw), it may make you a good salesman but wont fool someone that actually owns one.

      @@LeeeroyJenkins Nobody is stopping to refuel mid chase lmao. The point is that the same dumb cop who forgets to keep his car fueled is going to be the same dumb cop who forgets to charge the car, not to mention they can easily have charging stations at the HQ and just plug it in every time they stop by or leave work. They aren't driving like 400 miles a day, most of the time they just post up in one spot anyway.

      The folks who think emergency charging takes 4 hours haven’t been paying attention. That’s old school AC charging. DC fast charging at public stations takes a Mach-E from 10-80 in 45 minutes if a long shift needs it. Not like their cars never sit idle during shift now….
