Babar Azam even in his peak averaged around 25 in that 6-7m good length/hard length on 4th-5th stump channel. Now, it's down to 17 since 2022. Earlier 35% deliveries were bowled to him in that channel, now it's 60%+. So, to counter that he started shuffling more towards the off side to cut that Caught Behind/Slips/edges dismissals kind of similar to Smith. But he doesn't have those amazing wrists like Smith to play those flicks through midwicket and cut that LBW dismissals entirely. Now, he needs to develop some counter attacking shots to put bowlers off that length while going back to his original trigger movement or toe or whatever. When the bowlers started bowling fuller wobble seam deliveries to him, they were bowling to his strengths actually.
Marnus did overachieve at the start of his career and by the laws of probability and logic is now struggling a bit, like basically 99% of players in sports. But overall his average is still class and he will come good once again. Just needs patience, he's also someone who doesn't stubbornly keep doing the same thing if it ain't working, he'll be fine ll👍
Good thing is he is with Cummins and the current Australian team who will support him..and not make him feel like an outcast. Team environment matters a lot when a player struggles. And more importantly amid all these struggles he played some crucial knocks like saving Ashes in Manchester. Partnership in the WC final, a 90 in NZ which basically helped them to win that match now a 60 in D/N test surviving Bumrah with the new ball.
The bairstow stump line thing reminds me of the famous survivorship bias examples of the planes shot down in world war 2. The planes returning with holes in the side didn’t mean that the sides needed to be strengthened but meant that those were the ones not being shot down.
Definitely seems like bowlers worked out how to bowl to Marnus and he doesn't know how to respond to that. It is puzzling though - in cases where people have non-standard techniques like Smith, you can say that when their hand-eye coordination drops with age they'll get found out, which is what is happening. But in Marnus' case he is not old enough for that to come into play, he should be at his peak and besides, his technique is more classical. I would expect him to bounce back at some stage.
I'm surprised you missed a big correlation b/w Marnus & Khwaja being religious and most lucky. Maybe Aussies would find god after watching Marnus getting dropp 1000th time.
I just dont understand why he has not been dropped from the team, it's painful to watch him bat now, he's struggling super badly. Ive got a rough average of about 31 since '22. Poor Smith in't fairing much better at about 34 since 23/24--24/25. Kawaja as of 4/1/25 at 38 in the last two seasons. These guys are now relying on the very good/excellent bowlers we have. Can I ask where you get these stats from?
He deserves one more go this Test which he’ll get, after that I think absolutely Konstas opening and McSweeney down to 3. Khawaja is also a problem, the silver lining is Green will be back by next summer.
Loved how easily he said Marnus is not an Aussie name and he is not from here so he's is an outsider. White on white raci*m? And what abt that reaction from the "king" and "very likable" Roy? That's what Aus is like for the "outsiders" then?
I only started watching Cricket in 2023, and I was very impressed when he gave glory to God after he won the WC in India, immediately making him my favorite player. Hearing him portrayed as an outcast and seeing the clip of him being bullied by Warne and accused of having ADD only makes me sympathize with him more. I was diagnosed with ADD as a little kid myself, and at many times was an outcast, so I can definitely relate. I hope he can get his form back.
it's a shame how much rough treatment he gets from even Aussie fans, he probably should be dropped at the moment but we don't really have someone who is kicking the door down as a batter. I do think the credit should go to the bowlers for figuring him out a bit, he's been getting out to that same sort of delivery quite a lot recently.
He will never be in the class of Root,Smith, and Kohli. He has been throughly exposed in the last couple of years. He will never score regularly against top class attacks.
Luck can come in other forms than just drops you know. There's a reason that Marnus gained this tag, and that is because if anyone just watched him, even when he was making runs, he rarely looked good, he always looked very close to getting out. No, it is obviously not just that, it is definitely what you've suggested about bowlers changing their plans to him as well, but there has to be a factor of that he was actually getting lucky when he started out, the eye test can't just be completely ignored. So, not only is he not getting that same luck he got when he started out, he is also bang out of form, which happens to all cricketers. The thing is, with other cricketers, who have a much better technique, they can cope with periods of being out of form, we've seen it a hundred times before. Marnus, on the other hand, can not.... now the luck has gone, and the form, as he has absolutely terrible technique, he's got no chance.
I don't understand how being a religious outsider has got anything to do with the count of chances provided by Marnus and the count of chances taken / dropped ! 🤷🏻♂️ Coming to YJB, India especially Bumrah and Ishant really exploited his weakness to the inducker hitting the stumps, as I could remember.
The NO RUNS bit was class
I bet an Oak Choclate milk that Marnus will watch this video! I'm sure he will also find all these random stats interesting.
And then suddenly find his form back in the next test, on God I am shit scared that he is gonna find his rhythm back in this series
People are forgetting that it was Marnus who supported Travis Head and also scored a crucial half century in the CWC 2023 Final agaisnt India.
What has that to do with his test avg?
@davel7037 he may be out of form now and need some rest, but he is a reliable batter for AUS
Never make fun of Marnus on live tv , RIP Warne and Symonds
Yeah they looked pretty bad in that clip
😶
Especially with Marnus being religious and all…
I Feel Sad For Marcus Actually, He Must Have Gone Through A Lot Growing Up And This Clip Of Warne And Symonds Proved It Hasn't Stopped

Fck Babar Azam. He has even decent in test format .
Why talking of babar azam now
WHAT DOES THIS VIDEO HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH BABAR AZAM U DUMBASS

He aint a test batter anyway.
@ stupid Comment
All that analysis just seems like a definite "low confidence and out of form" label as mostly nothing has changed significantly
Love your videos mate

For Indians, Marnus is Labu-shankar

"NO RUN!"
Marnus pronounces it 'Wraaan'

LOVE the effort put into this video
Kohli dropped marnus so that he will play 9 odd overs more so as to ensure that india will get a bit better pitch to bat on.
200 IQ Virat Kohli move. My man learnt a few tricks from MSD.
The problem is who do you bring in for him? Sam Konstas?
He deserves one more go this Test which he’ll get, after that I think absolutely Konstas opening and McSweeney down to 3. Khawaja is also a problem, the silver lining is Green will be back by next summer.
Great analysis as per 👏🏼👏🏼
It seems to be his confidence letting him down more than anything at the moment.
Bairstow analysis the perfect example of why correlation is not causation. The reason for both things occuring was a separate underlying root cause.
Enjoyed the Milhouse reference 😚👌🏻
I'm hoping for some divine intervention in Adelaide.

If Marnus doesn't perform at Adelaide he must be dropped

Sir how we can work with you?
Marnus needs to play some Shield rounds.
Didn't Rohit have so many missed catches turned to hundreds in the world cup in England
He will never be in the class of Root,Smith, and Kohli.

Kohli himself is not in the class of Root and Smith.

He needs to be dropped, for his own sake as much as the teams'. He's so woefully short of confidence, it's pretty gruesome.
