Hi Meijars. thanks a lot for this amazing and informative content related to IOS dev. Could you please make an IOS Roadmap 2023 video? It will be really helpful for beginners like me.🙏
Hey, thank you for the video, do you are anyone in the comments know if your data is kept private? Does you code get uploaded somewhere using either copilot or through the xcode addon? I would like for my source code to stay private.
This is a great video! Have you had any experience with MacOS apps using AI? I am using CodeAI and curious to what models it uses versus Copilot for xcode.
Thanks! I was on the fence about making this video, but it performs surprisingly well for the tutorial. Later I will change the title to a bit more search-friendly, the current one is a bit clickbite. But it works 😅
i just got my first ever macbook. xcode sucks. full of bugs. it even jumbles struct names in files i haven't touched. crazy. is there a way to make apps in vscode?
XCode is used by literally millions of developers around the world, you should post a video showing your issues and then we can help you solve them. MS is retiring their iOS development tools, but take it from someone who has done a lot of iOS dev, you MUST use xcode, any other alternative is going to cause you more stress in the long run
There is kind of no way around vscode - it's just the editor with the biggest OSS community. It's a bit clunky, needs quite some config, parsing is so so, some visual settings suck (and are non-optional) - but you can always get the latest tech, e.g. ChatGpt integration since December 5th (or something). I use it in conjunction with Android Studio for flutter. Started with some better refactoring in vscode. Slowly but surely I use vscode more than AS.
Thanks Aivars for this excellent video! I’m going to give Copilot a try. Looks like VS Code is pretty snappy, so until Apple releases an official Copilot plugin, I may stick with flipping between XCode and VS Code. It’s an exciting time to be a developer!
Glad it was helpful! VSCode feel like a bit different comparing with Xcode, but I'm ready to live with that to get that quick and snappy Copilot integration.
Sure, programmers will become more efficient, and that happening already every year. Also, I have to say that doesn't mean there will be less work for developers.
I see it as much less STRESS for one developer (myself), I know what i want to write and now I can do it much quicker and even learn new things along the way.
No, never, code is extremely complex and there will always be a human factor. However, I can personally attest that it has greatly improved my speed of development which makes everybody happy.
It’s cool, thanks for the video. Regarding copilot it seems to me that this is very poor experience even for free, but here 10$ for these slow suggestions, so-so
ROFL "installed node now you're a web developer", thank you for that!
Thanks, Aivars! This was exactly what I needed to understand what options we have for Copilot as iOS devs.

That's in my backlog. I have no date on that year, but I will do eventually.
much needed info, thanks

Frankly I do not care about that for my own Apps. Even if that code will get leaked, I will not worry too much.
@@AivarsMeijers thank you for your answer, in the mean time i found that copilot for business doesn't save the code :)

Yeah. I ignored VSCode for a while, but have to say that using it almost every day now.

Is this still the best Copilot type of tool for Xcode? Update?
I'm still using it. It getting updates all the time and work great
@@AivarsMeijers thank you I finally got it, though it’s giving me some deprecated recommendations. Overall awesome!
A bit tricky to install, but it works extremely well
Now one developer can do 10x on his job as well. More ROI for the company. What do you think?

@@AivarsMeijers I agree!

Do you think AI could replace web devs? :)
All the developers are safe because business and stack holders are not able to come up with clear requirements ;)
@@AivarsMeijers You mean, at least as long as the stakeholders remain human and don't become an AI 🤖
But webdevs will need to go first.
Just joking.

As of now 60 day trial in the US at least.
Yeah, I had 60 or 90 days in EU. More than a month.
your vocal boost is a little bit too high in this video. Had to turn down the volume to 30%, but very informational thank you!
Sorry about that, a bit too close to microphone and too much boost.

Yeah, experience is not great, but I still keep using it.
