This was such an awesome tutorial! Thank you. So well done. I made this out of 4-inch squares of Christmas wrapping paper as a star for the top of my tree. One great thing about this pattern is that it's very tolerant of the slight imperfections that come with paper squares that have been cut out with scissors. Double-sided wrapping paper would be even prettier! Thank you again for this fantastic video. 🎉
Dude, I learned how to make a modular star that looks just like this, but the units are harder to fold and you basically have to glue to keep them there. Thank you for saving me from that D:
Excellent video, I like the explanation and speed because it gives me a chance to fold as I go without having to pause the video over and over. Thanks heaps. You've done a great job of this tutorial.
Great instructions! I have only one comment to add: when you make one of the first moves, i.e. the one from 1'50", you should notice, that the model has NO MIRROR symmetry, and you need to remember the position of the model with the first two corners flapped under. If it is like "tip on 11, tip on 5" it will give a right chiral star, if it is positioned like "tip on 1, tip on 7" (mirror symmetry) you get a left chiral star. And it is really important to make ALL the 30 pieces in the same exact fashion (meaning same initial position). Check out :)
Awesome instructions!!! I just finished my first Bascetta star using your instructions and it turned out great! I was sooo worried about doing the last point but it fell into place perfectly. More instructions please!
You are one of the Best Origami teachers on You Tube. I love your clear and very methodical instructions and clear presentations. Keep up the awesome videos. You could be a professional. AAA+++
Wonderful, definitely one of the better modular origami videos out there. Thank you for marking the folds with a dotted line, that helped a lot. One small correction, your tags have this listed as a dodecahedron. This is actually a stellated icosahedron. Same number of edges (30), but it has 20 faces (or spikes in this case) instead of the 12 found in a dodecahedron. :)
Hi thank you once again for this excellent tutorial! I just made a remake of my own bascetta star, with the corona virus I have lots of time to fold different models :) This is very easy to fold and to assembly, especially with your help!!!
u r awesome!!! ive been looking 4 this model all day! im gonna make my mum a giant star 4 christmas and didnt find squat til now. also ur magic ball tutorial rocks. thanx. :)
Thank you for instructions! Took me a little trial and error to assemble the pieces correctly but I got it on the second attempt :) It is quite a sturdy structure this design.
I do have to say, you're making it to long and to much information, but if one misses something or someone isn't verry good at folding, you've made it perfect!
You have earned a subscription from me :) Very good work! You go nice a slowly which makes it easy to follow. I find a lot of origami videos on TH-cam move too quickly and you constantly have to pause them but this is just right!
Do you think this might work with Cardstock? I have some on me, but I'm going to try it with regular paper first, and then go to cardstock.... but before I get to that what would you think? Would it work? Thanks for uploading a tutorial, great vid!
Thanks so...much for putting so much effort into this video, it helped me a lot, when i had to do some origami in my Japan Project!!! Hard but definitely worth the perseverance!!! Thanks, Rosetta P.S. I can see that you enjoy showing origami in public since you put a WHOLE 10 minutes, and 50 seconds into this video!!! :) God Bless!!!
Hello, thank you so much for your very clear and easy to follow instructions!!! This is a nice model and I think I'll fold it next with my recently bought beautiful origami paper!!
Excellent model and tutorial. I have watched many videos on how to make this star and yours is by far the best. However, I still can't it to work out!! I can fold the units and can start the assembly but somewhere in the process I always lose it. Anyway, lovely video and your easy to listen to also. Deborah
@KarlosSlade Use Any paper as long as it's not too thin. You can use regular white paper but it might be a bit too thin. Try and get colored photo copy paper or the heavier inkjet paper. Cardstock will also work, except it looks a bit more detailed as in you can see the folds when you finish it.
I can make the 30 individual units without difficulty. However, when it comes time to put the units together I can't seem to understand what is the flap and what is the pocket in order to put together.Any suggestions as to how to hold and what I should be doing to make it more understandable. THank you.
@xxLizzyxxs .....Yes, this video is very nice. The point of 'making that triangle' is to insert deeply into two faces, means the top's form is sharp. I hope you try again, and never forget to down them on the table when you take the third piece.
@GothicaGirl07 His explanation of the connection process was perfectly clear; connect corners of 3 until you have the final result of 30 pieces assembled.
I used standard origami paper (kami) to fold this one. Kami is about 60gsm and you can find it in just about any arts and crafts store or origami shop online.
Wow! This is one of the best tutorials I've ever seen. Super clear instructions. Very well paced.

I just finished my second. Thank you for your clear folding instructions. The putting together took a while to get but once I was there, I was flying.
Excellent video, I like the explanation and speed because it gives me a chance to fold as I go without having to pause the video over and over. Thanks heaps. You've done a great job of this tutorial.
Thank you so much for such a very clear instruction. I keep it on my playlist and keep referring back to it when I make it again.
i have to say this is the best tutorial on the bascetta star i've ever seen!
Your probably the best tutorial maker on youtube by now! congrats if you are!!!

Made one for my girlfriend and she loved it! Id say this is super easy for a model that looks so damn good. Thanks man!
excellent instructions and video. not as easy as you make it look, but still many steps above other people's instructions and/or videos.
And one more thing, where can i buy that purple paper that your using? it's pretty good looking for this kind of model!
You are so prepared....By Nice Speech man!.......I like it!

The instruction were very detailed but the assembly was tricky. But I finished it plus I made it with sticky notes!!
Thanks..u work is awesome!
You have dashed lines on the white side of the paper. Is that necessary, or is that just so the creases show up on the video?
I just finished my first spike!
I'm so glad It fit all together. :)
I loove this modular origami! I think I've already done 5 of theses stars. My record is 2 hours :)
wow thanks for making such a clear tutorial! I really like it.
your the person who gives alot of info
Nice Video! Very easy to follow... thanks!
Great teaching!!
@DuhAsainGuy Yeah man, ever folded Kusudamas before? Most are around 30 pieces, if not more.
Are there some other designs that are similar to this one I can try folding myself?? Can you give me any suggest any??
it looks awesome and way easer to make then the spiked pentikis dodecahedran. thanks
@xxLizzyxxs .....Yes, this video is very nice.
The point of 'making that triangle' is to insert
deeply into two faces, means the top's form is sharp.
I hope you try again, and never forget to down them
on the table when you take the third piece.
Congratulations!
It's really, really beautiful and hard!
But I'm gonna try to do!
Tell me, please, what kind of paper do you use for this art?
Wow, loved it... it was great!! Really beautiful.
Wow you sound so different btw thanks for the tutorial😂
@GothicaGirl07 His explanation of the connection process was perfectly clear; connect corners of 3 until you have the final result of 30 pieces assembled.
Really nice, good tutorial very clear
Great project, just completed mine. The last tiny piece to tuck in though, omg...
can you give me a tip for the last 5 elements? i just can't them get to stick to the others :(
The ending is the hardest part and thats when you decided to speed the video up, lol! I had to look at a tonne of other vids just to work it out!!!
One quick question ! Where did u pick up this kind of paper ? ? ? And what about the thickness.
I used standard origami paper (kami) to fold this one. Kami is about 60gsm and you can find it in just about any arts and crafts store or origami shop online.
