You just witnessed arguably the best cover of a Tool song on youtube. These kids absolutely nailed this one. You guys really need to check out the Tool original for this one. You'll be even more impressed with the job these kids did. :)

As a musician myself, nothing makes me smile more than watching children making incredible music and clearly enjoying every moment. This school is fantastic and these kids and others like them have some great covers on TH-cam. The fact that they coved Tool is , as you say ...a bit special as we all know if you are going to truly understand Tool, then you have to go the extra mile and as musicians they do this ...there are other Tool covers by them and others on here also...loved your reaction and subbed for your journey...spiral out..
The fact that they did a Tool song is one thing, The fact they put their heart and soul into everything is amazing! This has to be the Best cover song I have ever heard!! One point, The drummer and base kept everyone in tune and time!
The lead singer, Kala Rose has since graduated the program and has her own band now, Saving Escape. You should check out the last video she was a part of with OMF, "Crazy Horse." (Black Label Society cover)

You probably should have listened to the studio version first but this one is still a must watch bc of the sheer talent of these kids :)

There’s hope for the future
Yes! The drummer was the one who recommended the song to O'Keefe so you know he was going to bring it. The original is better in many ways, but the additional elements the kids brought, female lead w/falsetto, piano, percussive section... all were brilliant. The have another great re-imagination of "Sober" where Kala's older, plays guitar, and have even younger kids participate.
I can't remember if you did "No Quarter" by Led Zeppelin, then the cover by Tool. The two are incredible no matter which way you lean!

part of why this cover sounds so great too is the excellent mixing and mastering behind the scenes making everything sound so huge.
You're exactly right, it's not just "pow pow pow" haha.. it's is not simple music at all, making these kids all that more impressive

I have words. This video made me discover Tool. I cried the first time I saw it, and at the time I thought it was just the beauty of the situation. It was so much more than that.. At 20+ yo, I was discovering my favorite band of all time...
Kayla Rose is 11 here. When she graduated she was 18. She does a cover of Crazy Horse by Black Label Society that will blow you away. Definitely listen to BLS first and then the O'keefe Foundation version. They also do a great version of Sober by Tool using the smallest musicians as well. It is fantastic.

my favorite tool cover by far! If you are interested in seeing what the singer Kayla is doing now she came back to the Okeefe music Foundation about a year ago and did a cover to Black Label Society's "Crazy Horse" song! Its a cool contrast of her early days to her Nowadays progression in vocal range! Shes a rock star!
The girl's name is Kala Rose, and yes, she is doing very well in music.
Some of these kids weren't old enough to even listen to Tool at the time this was recorded. It's just astounding.

This is a very worthy cover, but I gotta say, not the best option to listen and react to this without knowing the original. It takes a lot away from the critical analysis. Forty Six & 2 is one of Tool's most popular and beloved songs, due to both it's musicianship,which is highlighted by Danny's drum solo near the end and also the deep thought provoking lyrics and vocal delivery of Maynard. Do yourselves a favor and listen to it.
Actually, as a general advice I would say you should never react to any song whatsoever without checking the original first.
Love you guys, and realize that a patron or donator requested this, but as a general rule it’s MUCH preferred to listen to an original song for a first listen, not a cover.
I would LOVE you to react to Tools cover of Zeppelin’s No Quarter…..after you hear Zeppelins original.

Those kids have grown a bit. Check out O'Keefe cover of Crazy Horse by Black Label Society. It's the same girl but older although I'm not sure if musicians are the same. Either way, it rocks and now the girl screams in a rock n roll kind of way.

The problem I see is school music programs are being cut and kids have their faces in phones when they could be practicing!?
tool does all this with 4 people, the kids did great for sure.
Speaking entirely out of personal preference, musically I like the "fullness" and production value of this better than the original. And despite the fact that the vocalist is amazing, that's the only part where I prefer Tool's version. Even watching years after first seeing this, the energy put into this from the drummer astounds me.
