Thomas Einöder Thank you you are very kind. As soon as I am done with this next series of tests I will start a brushless conversion on this buggy. An important thing to note about this diode, is to NOT put one in across the motor when there isn't one, it is not an oversight, the circuit is different to the one with the diode across the motor. I know this because when I added a diode across the motor in one of my RC cars that did not have it, I burned out one of the transistors in my RX/ESC of this RC car. So yes, the diode does perform an important function in the circuit, if it is in, leave it in, if there isn't one, do not put one in.
Correct. There was just a lot of people at the time claiming that removing the diode would make the car faster. I just want to show that it did not go faster. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day and be safe out there.

back in 80's i was told the diodes on motors were for better radio signal...motor without diode caused motor to interfere with radio...causing glitches
How about a scenario video? Say a kid gets a 144001 for christmas and runs it for a few days jumping off ramps and the back deck, the motor strips one of the motor screws. What would be his quickest, or cheapest route to get back up and running? maybe faster or the same speed as it was stock? Now he may not have a soldering iron or a torch to heat up the screws super glued to the car or the pinion to the motor
The easiest way is to order a new motor mount and pinion gear. They don’t use super glue or you could just soak it in acetone. I tried that and it didn’t touch the glue. So realistically without heat I doubt you’ll be able to repair it without just replacing parts.
Hi my friend watched all your video and its very interesting, apparently what I've heard is removing it you can run 3s and Bash hard and Longer without the Esc Frying, with the Diode on apparently after Bashing on 3s it Frys the Esc, there is only one way to find out and that's Bash it Hard or run a full battery with it on and with it off. 👍 great idea with the switch and a great video my friend 👍😎👍
Tonys Rc Tech thanks a bunch! I have heard the same thing and that’s why am doing the test. Based on what I saw it didn’t make any difference at all. But, all that was done with no load so I will add a load we will see. I am going to speed test it with the big tires first but I will probably put the regular tires back on it to buy shit on 3s.
great video. i used to live At radio shack in my cb days...its nice to see if mods like circuit mods work instead of throwing money at this cars. wonder what a capacitor would do to it.
tony kingme1x thanks a bunch. 🙏💯👍🏻 If I can find some pavement that doesn’t have snow on it I’ll see if being under a load changes anything (it could) but I’m leaning toward it not making any difference. The diode should be there just to protect the circuit from reverse voltage spikes. If you remember the very first component in you CB was a 1n4001 diode. They used it as a crowbar circuit to blow the fuse in case you hooked the radio up backward. It would pop the diode and cause a complete dead short but it protected the rest of the radio. If you put a large capacitor on the motor it could potentially give it a little more punch IF there was a voltage sag but I don’t think it would even be enough to notice or be worth the time. I am doing this because I’ve heard from a bucket load of people that it did something so rather than relying on “guesstimations” I wanted to prove or disprove the mod. It’s kinda like putting a loud muffler on a carbureted engine and not changing the jets in the carb. It “sounded” faster but in most cases it was actually slower. I got mine the other day but I think it makes alot of rattling noise when moving. I haven't really tried higher speeds but at low speeds it sounds terrible. Like something with the gears somewhere. Tried looking around at most of them but couldn't see anything physically wrong with any of them. Does yours also make alot of sound when just idling slowly?
Avecforte there is one issue that I know of. If you add a lot of preload to the shocks to get more ground clearance the dog bones kinda bind up and it is most noticeable at low speed. They also didn’t put much lube in rear axle gears or the differentials.
Avecforte if you’re holding it in the air and running it I’m almost positive it’s the dog bones you’re hearing. Find a box or something to set the car on to push the lower A arms level with the chassis and it will probably sound much better.
Avecforte I just thought of another easy test. Hold the buggy in the air and with both rear wheels hanging down spin one slowly. It will feel really notchy. Now hold the axles so they are level to the frame and do it again. They should be smooth. I’ll try and remember to put this in my next video.
Mine also got this issue. There’s just not enough grease in both differentials front and rear. Once I reapply more grease, the rattling noise noticably gone. Also try to alter the height of your RC so the dogbones are straight with the ground.
True! I was testing this because it was a bit of a rumor that removing it would make the car faster. I just wanted to squash the rumor. The capacitor has the potential to help if there is a voltage sag. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day and be safe out there!
Outdoors4adventure me too but I’ve heard that for such a long time I figured I would test it. So far I see no reason to remove it. More test as soon as the weather clears. There could be a difference between load and no load performance. Thanks for watching. I enjoyed the coffee and the Built Bar was good too. Now if I can find them in the stores around here. LOL Thanks again.

Some of them do ok and others won’t even move a foot. The ESC says it’s rated for 7.4v so I just don’t recommend using 3s in these cars anymore. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day and be safe out there.
I conected 3s turnigy 2200mah 25-30c battery and diode instantly exploded as soon i gave little bit throtle instantly disconected battery removed diode remains then reconected it seems runing without problem i wonder is it safe to use that battery? as i understand diode is for controling current when its coasting because motor can generate voltage back to esc and burn it also i wonder whats stoping will be is it going to stop or instantly go in reverse.. ? IN GENERAL is it safe? or its going to burn esc?
seeze rec my guess is the the 3s battery killed the driver board for the servo which means you will have to change the ESC. I’ve seen this happen to several cars now.
@@RCModSquad lol okay thanks man.
@@RCModSquad I did notice that it gets better when it's sitting on the ground. Might make a video of it and see what people say.
Молодец, дедушка!!!!👍🤘😉
Евгений RC Drezgalovo 48rus Спасибо! и спасибо за просмотр.
@@RCModSquad пожалуйста!!!💪💪💪💪
I think diode is for protection, I think for more power would be better use a capacitor
True! I was testing this because it was a bit of a rumor that removing it would make the car faster. I just wanted to squash the rumor.
The capacitor has the potential to help if there is a voltage sag.
Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day and be safe out there!
Interesting. I would figure they had a reason to add it. 😃👍
Amazing, I do believe it.
Billie Solomon Good morning and have a great day.
Good video , just stumbled across this one, how’d I miss it? Lol
cooking with sherry no idea! 😃
these are massive wheels... how does it change this cars performance over stock wheels... is top end around 3 mph more??? does battery and esc/motor get hotter under same conditions...? thanks
They are too big. Everything got hot with the stock ESC and motor.
@@RCModSquad yeah maybe some wheels 20-30 percent more diameter would be pretty good ...like truggy tires... tose looked like 1/10th monster truck
@@roadstar499 I just grabbed them because my local hobby store was moving and had everything on sale so they didn’t have to move it.
@@RCModSquad i ordered some 1/10 scale drift wheels for mine last week... i am looking forward to seeing how it does... ..i never did drift wheels before seems pretty fun and you never need to buy tires...
@@roadstar499 I thought about building a set of drift tire. I might try that this summer.
Hi, what should I do now? Leave the diode on or take it off. My ESC broke yesterday after I connected an s3 25c 1000 .. I can drive forwards and backwards but the steering does not work anymore: / that's for sure the esc or.. i never use a3s next time when i have a new esc :) only 2s :)
Rich Hair I don’t think the diode will do anything for you. I think you just need a new ESC. Both of my servos are still ok. Just my ESC burned out.
@@RCModSquad thank you
Rich Hair You’re welcome! I wish I had better news. Good luck! 🍀
Dam, I did the same with 3S.
The black diode casing broke apart on mine today during my bashing video this afternoon 😆
PERTH WEST OZ RC heck of a bash session. 😂😂
What kind of wheels and tires are those ?
Here’s a link if you want a closer look.
Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous day.

I want to see it
Those tires didn’t work out but it was fun trying. 😃 Have a great day and be safe out there!
My diode burned out when i put a 3s in one of my wl toys after 4 good runs even pulling off wheellies on stock
OwlShadow on my car I didn’t see any difference with or without. I think this ESC is best used with 2s.
I remember Radio shack
There are still a few left but not many. It’s a bit sad.
Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous day.
I took diode out and 3s runs esc works but servo isnt working. any ideas my friend?
seeze rec my guess is the the 3s battery killed the driver board for the servo which means you will have to change the ESC.
I’ve seen this happen to several cars now.
@@RCModSquad lol okay thanks man. I was running a venom 3s 20c 1300mah battery worked great no diode pop and both esc and motor ran pretty cool but wanted the extra runtime and I'm assuming because I bought a higher 3s 25c 2200mah ace gen that's what did it. Oh well looks like brushless upgrade us coming.
anyone can fast forward or speed up videos if they like...so make them the way you like to.
That’s pretty much what I do now. I still try and trim out the stuff I can. It’s getting easier to edit as I go. 😃👍🏻
15:26 3s do be like dat doe
Good morning 🌞
As much as those tires ballooned on 2s I decided not to try them on 3s. 😃
Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day and be safe out there!
@@RCModSquad Thanks! You too.
interesting mod
Thanks! 🙏It turned into more of a test since it didn’t make the car faster I leave it on the motor. Thanks for stopping by and your comment.
Have a great day and be safe out there!
Great rc
I like it. I have three of these. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day and be safe out there!
Hi I received my 144001 😍😍😍.
But my esc has a small red button.
Since that isn't the v1 (big red switch) and the v2 is with that tiny tiny button that you modded.
Do you know what version is my esc? (Has a tiny red button on the ESC and a sticker 60A esc).
Thanks 🖖🖖
Rushan Randeniya Thanks for watching! 👍🏻 Maybe that’s V3? I haven’t seen that one yet.
If the axles stick slightly out of the Nylock nuts on the wheels then it sounds like they made another upgrade to the car. 👍🏻👍🏻
@@RCModSquad Yes they does.
Since I received it I never strength the nuts and they never come off
السلام عليكم ورحمه الله وبركاته الله يعطيك الف عافيه على 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🏵️🏵️🇲🇦

Don’t shut up. You’re the bob ross of RC
LOL thanks! I really appreciate the kind words. Have a great day and be safe out there!
Are those wheels 87mm?
The inside and outside are two different sizes so it has to have the matching tires to work. The rim is about 60mm outside and 105mm inside.
Here's a link if you want to look at them. The image doesn't really show the rim. Mine have lasted well but you have to replace the whole thing.

Awesome
My ESC smoked as soon as I added 3s, yet I've seen others like yourself have it work successfully
Mine ended up smoked also. I cover that in another video. I don’t recommend using 3s on this car. some get lucky and if you just do short drive it might be ok.
thanks for stopping by and have a fantastic day.
wow
It didn’t work out very well with this ESC and motor. I might try it again some day.
Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day and be safe out there!
I popped my diode with a 3s battery. It made no difference
Far too much detail. 18+ minutes on removing a diode 😆. Thanks for the information though
Alex Oliver removed and put back several times. 😃 You can’t be too sure with these urban legends.
Thanks for watching and have a great day.
.
Hello muy friend. How can contact to you vía email? I have a vídeo of my 14401 trying to remove the steering column sleve, but its imposible. If you can help to me give me your mail and I send my vídeo. Thanks...
Alvaro Carrillo sorry for the slow reply. I’m not getting notifications.
