Greek food is amazing and there’s a lot of crossover with Turkish food eg the kolourakia are just another take on simit for example. That part of the world is epic for gastronomes. Personally, I’ve never had lokoumathes stuffed with Nutella and covered in pistachios - my mum has always kept it basic, so just syrup only. My kids would love them with chocolate!

From my search in... Internet, some ancient words from Athenaeus, Deipnosofists, many many, many ages ago, before Turks come to Asia Minor... GASTRIS: "And also,' says he, 'in Crete they make a kind of cheesecake (sic, phyllo pastry is described in the ancient text) which they call gastris. And it is made thus: - Take some Thasian and Pontic nuts and some almonds, and also a poppy. Roast this last with great care, and then take the seed and pound it in a clean mortar; [648] then, adding the fruits which I have mentioned above, beat them up with boiled honey, putting in plenty of pepper, and make the whole into a soft mass, (but it will be of a black colour because of the poppy;) flatten it and make it into a square shape; then, having pounded some white sesame, soften that too with boiled honey, and draw it out into two cakes, placing one beneath and the other above, so as to have the black surface in the middle, and make it into a neat shape.' These are the recipes of that clever writer on confectionary, Chrysippus". (I tried to find an english translation, because for many people greek are totally "greek to them"...😁).(Source: www.attalus.org/old/athenaeus14c.html) And an... homeric recipe of souvlaki = eis ovelous (=spits) So he spake, and Patroclus gave ear to his dear comrade. He cast down a great fleshing-block in the light of the fire and laid thereon a sheep's back and a fat goat's, and the chine of a great hog withal, rich with fat. And Automedon held them for him, while goodly Achilles carved. [210] Then he sliced the meat with care and spitted it upon spits, and the son of Menoetius, a godlike man, made the fire blaze high. But when the fire had burned down and the flame was abated, he scattered the embers and laid thereover the spits, and sprinkled the morsels with holy salt when he had set them upon the fire-dogs. But when he had roasted the meat and laid it on platters, [215] Patroclus took bread and dealt it forth on the table in fair baskets, while Achilles dealt the meat. Himself he sate him down over against godlike Odysseus, by the other wall, and bade Patroclus, his comrade, offer sacrifice to the gods; [220] (Homer, ILIAD, BOOK 9, www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.01.0134%3Abook%3D9%3Acard%3D205) Everything is written and curved on the marbles and painted on pottery many ages ago, only the names were changed.

Cheers from Canada

Ps. I think that mini coffee cup receptacle is made from copper not brass.

Very sorry to hear about all of your personal problems we miss both of you but I’m not going to do anything drastic I just want to make sure that you’re OK I want to keep supporting your channel you’re very entertaining and very educational good luck keep up the good work please
Fun fact: the yoghurt, honey, walnut combo is thought to be what the greek gods ate according to greek mythology...it is also an aphrodisiac.
Greeks met yogurt thanks to Turks
There is no document that they ate the mixture you mentioned in ancient Greece.
Very delicious Greek food indeed,,nice episode
4:22 that’s unfortunate
Hey brother from another mother hope to see you on your next adventure 🤌👌😁 been through a 13-year-old relationship with four daughters but at the end it will work out if you get the help. I pray for you my brother ✌️ keep it 💯
I would feel at home in Greece seeing this video except for the pork chops part. That is where the feeling of familiarity ends. Simit, coffee, baklava, döner etc...
What is the seafood place with the grilled octopus ?
La Grecia è bellissima 👍👏🇮🇹
So IS italy too my Friend!!WE greeks love italy❤️❤️
@@dimitrakapa4887 😄👋👋
Greek food is amazing and there’s a lot of crossover with Turkish food eg the kolourakia are just another take on simit for example. That part of the world is epic for gastronomes. Personally, I’ve never had lokoumathes stuffed with Nutella and covered in pistachios - my mum has always kept it basic, so just syrup only. My kids would love them with chocolate!
I love that pork chop. What the name of that place pls? Thanks!
Thank you for the video 😊
What's the name of the Bougatsa place?
Thanks
Greek food is simply the best.
*stolen from the Great TURKS.
Basically both great. Our border’s didn’t exist back in the days.
Can we get some restaurant names for these places in the description. I’d like to visit some of these restaurants but example “lamb chops” isn’t specific enough to find that place.
It's all in Turkey, most Turkish food, gyro, Doner yoghurt sold in Europe is already Turkish, and you can find everything else in Turkey, even more, you should see Istanbul, both Greek history and Turkish history Greek people and Turkish people love each other, we are waiting for you in Turkey.
delicious my brother

I have never heard anyone pronounce bagel as baggle. Is that a Canadian thing?
Yes
Try going to a Greek Festival in your state, if you can't go to Greece. Mine just had theirs in my county, like they have every year, since I was little.
What's the name of the place you ate the lamb chops?

Hello, I’m right now in Athens and I really wanna go to the Lamb Chops place, anyone know the address please ?
No idea why there aren't more Greek-food outlets in the UK - it's gorgeous AND (for the majority of it !) healthy !. For me, it's quite simply THE BEST FOOD IN THE WORLD.!

(I tried to find an english translation, because for many people greek are totally "greek to them"...😁).(Source: www.attalus.org/old/athenaeus14c.html)
And an... homeric recipe of souvlaki = eis ovelous (=spits)
So he spake, and Patroclus gave ear to his dear comrade. Himself he sate him down over against godlike Odysseus, by the other wall, and bade Patroclus, his comrade, offer sacrifice to the gods; [220] (Homer, ILIAD, BOOK 9, www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.01.0134%3Abook%3D9%3Acard%3D205)
Everything is written and curved on the marbles and painted on pottery many ages ago, only the names were changed.
Culinary culture in Ancient Greece is known for its simplicity and reflecting the agricultural inadequacies of the period.[1] During this period, dietary habits are based on wheat, olive oil and wine, which are the three main elements of Mediterranean cuisine.

@@clmky5485 I have not enough time to search in Wikipedia. Wikipedia is too poor for knowledge. I prefer searching in ancient texts for my recipes.
