He probably got every bit of that hardware for free, the motherboard cpu ram and graphics cards he for sure got free. That's 95% of the cost of this type of build
"underwhelming" depends on your definition. For non-gamers the cards are amazing. Architects will never have to worry about pre-rendered engines again. Most professionals who need good GPUs will have instant benefit from the RTX cores as soon as DXR is released, as Ray-Tracing is used pretty much everywhere. The world is not made of gamers only.
Cayo Santana these cards are GEFORCE and thus made for gamers. Its Nvidia's gamer line of cards so its really bad if they miss the mark and make the cards only interesting for people who need the cards for professional use. Still I am waiting for the new med-high range of the 2060 to see what nvida has to offer for the average consumer. The top range gamer cards are really not where nvidia makes its money as they sell so few of them compared to cards like 1060 and 970 for instance.
There are plenty of professionals who simply can't afford a Quadro and use Geforce for work. This generation's gap between the Geforce and Quadro is even narrower than previous generations, as both the 2080 and 2080 Ti have the same amount of RTX cores than low end Quadro cards. Also, these cards are not underwhelming under any circumstance. They are not as big of a leap in performance as Pascal, but that's because (1) Pascal was amazing and (2) they have to share die area with 3 other types of cores that didn't exist in previous generations. My only complaints towards NVIDIA are about the prices.
Agreed. Meaningless from a 'professional overclocking' perspective, but they all know it. It's all just for fun and brings some good attention to the real overclockers out there. Plus fun to watch them (jay) kill some components. Lol
Heat didn't kill it though, unless it takes 1 minute to get to the splash screen... I did the math above, after 1 minute, the water temp would increase ~30c, but a splash screen doesn't take that long. In fact, it probably didn't even hit 5c over ambient (which it would be doing in benchmarks obviously. Assuming shotglass amount of water in the block (42 mL), and your CPU using 100w (for the startup). 100W * (1 joule/s/W) -------------------------------------------------------------- = 0.56879 *C/second 4.186 (joule/gram/C) * 42mL*(1gram/mL)
Derek King Ok, 500w... Splash screen takes under 10 seconds for me (heck I'm into Windows almost by then...), that's still less than the 30c I quoted. I run a water cooled tablet, my pump duty cycle is about 5%. You can let it "cook" for 20 seconds, before you pulse water (really even 0.5s), and you'll only see a 1-2c drop. Running it constantly is pointless (but I can't make it run too slow, otherwise it stalls). I have a crappy video on that tablet that I don't recommend watching here: th-cam.com/channels/Zp2Om_w_o0ry_FQhAUp-CA.html Its soooo bad... I couldn't speed up the vid 1.5x, didn't have a script, no editing, now I know how Buildzoid feels! My free for personal use (no sales, or production over 5 units unless you get authorization by me) waterblock you can print for yourself here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:1394232 Tablet is overclocked 44% (and running 40c colder than out of the box stock). Its actually a pretty significant gain for the $5 and few hours while I was bored to design it (assembled while watching a boring movie).
+Derek King The point is his 7980xe had no transistors failing. Something was wrong with his over-clock, possibly needing more voltage? Any CPU in existence, even consuming more then 1,000w for less then 5 seconds (bios splash screens are essentially instant by comparison on things, Jay himself said it shut off immediately the moment the pressed the power button) won't do any harm to the CPU at all. If a single transistor failed, his CPU literally wouldn't work. Yet it is, so it's not the CPU's fault at all if it failed.
I just want to know why was this not an option when the career councillor was listing future prospects. Would have picked this or taking over for Willy Wonka.
On the CPU have you redone the THermal Paste yet since the overheat? I once thought I did the same and I had cooked the thermal paste, when I reinstalled new paste and reset waterblock it worked fine, so you might give it a shot if you have not already.

When Frontier bought the 47.xxx.xxx.xxx block of IP’s they were originally from Canada, some IP trackers have not updated this information yet even though it has been about two years. This is also the same reason that if you happen to be on your network and go on Instagram and see a post with Instagram music it will say “ Instagram music is not available in your region” same thing with Starbucks, it will say that you are in Canada. I originally found this from a post on DSL Reports. I hope this helped with your confusion on this.

@ Jayztwocents why don’t you try to cool the water cooler with chilling liquids directly... i.e., instead of a water to air heat exchanger, water to cooling liquid heat exchanger. It will increase the thermal duty to many fold, overclocking will be piece of cake. Plate type heat exchangers will give u the best efficiency, but even shell and tube type will be much better than the current setup.

I'm guessing he's avoiding getting parts under dew point to avoid the mess with condensation. You, Linus, Paul and Hardware Unboxed make the best tech videos. It's honest real world. You even show when you screw up. If you are in tech you have been there.
This actually makes the redundant gpu launch stuff way better to watch with this competition going on. Next step is going to be when real water-blocks come out and then Jay can air condition cool both gpu's and cpu.
This pretty much feels like the ancient Rome gladiator fights - cards being the gladiators and Jay being the one that gives mercy (or not) to the losing card 😆
Clear cmos and reset block with new paste. Cpu will be great again. Had to clear cmos once on a temp spike after I replaced the thermal paste and did not set the new upgrade cooler properly. Seemed to mess with the motherboard for some stupid reason I can not explain. Was able to regain original overclock with better temps after with new cooler.
Yeah, getting top benchmarks are all fine and dandy, but what about the micro stutter when playing games with 2 RTX 2080 Ti cards that Kyle just did a video about?

This is War.
It's great to see you all play with this suff, but I can't wait to see the pros like K|NGP|N smack the **** out of you all with +20% scores
This is the best feud on TH-cam and Twitter right now.
"Something was running in the back round probably win update..." few moments earlier "we are not online"!!! wtf! :P
Its windows... Everything is possible... Even shit like that, believe me xD
AgreedBog Making fun man :)
@RoseWolfz Prime even to turn Windows Defender off you have to wait for it to complete its scan. The irony when you're just booting to quickly bench test OC stability before the next reboot.
This is what PC Tech should be all about!!!! love ya Jay and everyone else
So this is the thing now arc assholes battle royal
What happened to tech talks
Jay plz dont stop representing Canadia this is pretty hilarious :)
Jay uses a phone that has a notch and no headphone jack. I have lost all respect you jay
Jay is not a dickhole. Jay is a strategic madman.

And this is why I love my PC community, it's all about sharing and fun ... balls to the walls crazy fun ... thanks Jay, this is the best thing I seen in my life
These 3Dmark score battles are getting intense, gonna get my popcorn.
You are my favourite guy of watching and enjoying on the TH-cam. I really like overclocks and everything you do. Keep up the good job mate!
Best thermal paste sound effect EVER CREATED !
Meanwhile KingPin is sitting on the sidelines finishing his tea while you have a playdate with gamernexus........................LOL
i love this guys passion
F for the 7980xe
When are you gonna finish the post malone build?
And damn...
Also why the mis matched cards?
Next: building an water cooling reservoir with a 50 gallon aquarium... FOR SCIENCE.
JayzTwoCents awesome videos, I love the hardware overclocking wars. It does remind me of the good old days with AMD and the lead pencil trick to unlock the CPU. Fun times back then.
It's great fun Jay, keep it going, friendly beef and competing is so much fun... I love it
"Do you want the LED strips that came with this case" I died a little bit on the inside hearing that.
As lackluster this launch was, its fun to see you guys racing each other
Very cool Jay! I like the rivalries between you guys.
You, Linus, Paul and Hardware Unboxed make the best tech videos. It's honest real world. You even show when you screw up. If you are in tech you have been there.
Thank you guys you've made this launch incredible fun!
I love how the tech community are cool with each other, like normal human beings.
This actually makes the redundant gpu launch stuff way better to watch with this competition going on. Next step is going to be when real water-blocks come out and then Jay can air condition cool both gpu's and cpu.
Videos like THESE are why I subscribed.

Lmfao. That sounded so funny.
I LIVE in Canada (I'm American) and I find myself saying that quite often. I don't know why!
I actually felt pride when i checked the 3dmark website and saw JayzTwoCentz in the number 1 slot. :D
this is some good coverage man new cards exciteing stuff.
This pretty much feels like the ancient Rome gladiator fights - cards being the gladiators and Jay being the one that gives mercy (or not) to the losing card 😆
I like these overclocking battles
Damn I love these "record wars" videos!
Right back at ya Nexus - Good Job Jay - Must admit im enjoying all this healthy competition. TY all involved. PsY
Happy to see that Jay is a proud Canadian!
This is a lot of fun and very entertaining to watch a good bit of friendly rivalry.
You're the best man in "TECH WATERSPORTS"!!
Very impressive. Hardware versus software. Imagine if you all got together and combined your hardware and software mods in one rig.
Nice, Jay still leading with a new score of 15000 in the 2x leaderboard.
That is over 500 points ahead.
It's nice to see a little friendly competition like this going on makes it interesting
Thats what you need jay. A more clean, stable power draw. Perhaps a dedicated line from the fuse box.
Jay's AC cooling unit hack kills me everytime hahahaha
Speaking of cooling....Hi Jay
Is it possible to run anti freeze in the coolant and run it through a freezer for subzero liquid cooling?
Clear cmos and reset block with new paste. Cpu will be great again. Had to clear cmos once on a temp spike after I replaced the thermal paste and did not set the new upgrade cooler properly. Seemed to mess with the motherboard for some stupid reason I can not explain. Was able to regain original overclock with better temps after with new cooler.
Jay you are a genius. Somehow you are able to make great content from a relatively disappointing release from NVIDIA.
loving this competition for the top spot on timespy
Nek minute JayzTwoCents pulls out the LN2 cooling pot!
Yeah, getting top benchmarks are all fine and dandy, but what about the micro stutter when playing games with 2 RTX 2080 Ti cards that Kyle just did a video about?
Who fucking cares, this is about the leaderboard!
The delay you experienced is likely due to an outdated cache response. The cache layer that served the website usually loads a fresh copy of the data every few minutes.
You know the next step is when Jay hooks up this contraption to his car's radiator.
