Just "found" your site. Enjoyed it. "M" was the very first ANYTHING I ever drove in my life (at 8 years of age). Getting ready to buy a local M with a known history...to 'relive my youth,' I guess.

One thing with pertronix ignitions is that they say to not use the solid core wires. I did on my M and it did burn it out. That tractor has now been switched over to the new style wires. I too work my M hard in the summer and fall on a 10” unload auger and some eight inch ones and in the fall they turn 72’x10” swing hopper augers in the fall. The auger manufacturer recommends a minimum of 65pto hp for it, but the M’s get it done.
You mean copper core... n then you switched to carbon core?
@@FarmallFanatic yes, my “M” had the original copper core wires on it yet. We did get eight years out of it with those wires. But the new kit said to not use them and go to the carbon fiber cored wires. Why it makes a difference I don’t know, but with electronic ignition it has more power, uses less fuel and is not as hot as the hotter spark burns the fuel more completely to begin with. Sorry for the delayed reply I was busy using my 6 volt positive ground “m” for augering and hauling with my 3588 2+2

We bought an H last summer that sat a long time , brought it home put in a carb kit , electronic ignition and switched it to 12 volt ! It’s so far so good !
This last go round, I ran hard n got 2 years out of it.
Nothin worse than the disappointment when the part u bin patiently waitin on are the wrong parts 🙄😲☹️ nice video 👍👍

I have a 175 AC and it has went through four or five sets of points in the last two years. My local mechanic told me that points just are not what they used to be. He suggested that I convert to electronic. Had to put on a new coil because it wasn't hot enough. Love it.

Yeah I know what you are talking about. My tractors all get used a lot and rack up a lot of hours between cutting fire wood for the shop, field work, snow plowing, and rescuing the neighbors when they are stuck or snowed in they get a whole lot of miles on them. I end up servicing them at least twice a year with general maintenance. Ignition's about five years, and the carb as a rule, only touch that if gas is pouring out of it...or if gas isn’t getting into it. But in order to make them reliable we’ve overhauled all of them top to bottom. Which I am doing right now to a farmall M I bought and yeah it is a basket case. But when it is done it will join the rest as reliable machine and be just like it was the day it left the factory and will be able to do the work that it was intended to do. Go on a Sunday drive and look nice until it gets it's first paint scratch. That means Monday morning it will be heading for the field.

Farmall Fanatic In a state of disaster since my tractor is laying apart all over my shop and l can’t play with it until it's done, ha, ha, ha 😂. I actually am in east central Minnesota 40 miles south of Duluth. As for the state of my tractor I am just finished rebuilding the transmission and I am painting the back half at the moment. The engine and the clutch are next on the list. Oh and if you are still looking for the answer to your question about the 800 pound bypass valve in the lift all hydraulic pump it was changed from 500 to 800 sometime between 1946-48 as an upgrade for better lifting power with implements. I’m not sure the year it became standard in the pump but the first date I found in my books is 46 as the appearance of the ”up graded” lift all system with more goodies to put on to use with machinery. But the bypass had to be ordered at the beginning as was the case with a lot of harvester add-ons and upgrades. When it became standard in lift all I'm not sure my books are vague on that. The jump into the super series tractors and no more is mentioned about lift all.

I went to mike halls in louisville 2 years ago he looked back in his old shelves and had a ton of old orginal original international harverster ignition parts ended up getting all my super C stuff and he did it for original invoice prices the distributor capes were $1.50 condensers were .50cent ....now i wish i bought everything he had.

Well its not a surprise to me that those burn out like they do and I have chatted with many IH guys and they say if you work the tractor good they just don't last . Most of the old IH Gasers I had back in the day were Delco just since we had good access to delco parts plus grandpa was a chevy GM guy is why we had them on Delcos
I dont hate delco...seems to be working well on the H. Im gonna keep this one just in case the H needs an electronic Ignition lol

That H is running and really good though
Go back to a OEM coil and stay away from hyped coils like shot shot blue flame flame thrower etc. and go back to points. that is about the 4th time in a 2 years you have changed it.

Sorry to hear about how much trouble you've had. If you're interested in an alternative, I put a C5 ignition on my 400 three years ago and haven't had any trouble with it. The system is really expensive ($600), but I haven't had any problems 450 hours later. It basically replaces the whole ignition system with components used in modern cars.

@@FarmallFanatic I was able to justify the cost because I would have needed to buy a new distributor. The advance weights cracked and messed up the inside of the distributor. This set up only uses the distributor shaft, so I bit the bullet and was happy with the result. As a bonus, I can use a planter monitor because the ignition makes less electrical noise than points.

@@williamchambers7235 Well what I said in a nutshell is this, if you work your tractors hard points or an electronic Ignition won't last forever. I have guys telling me that they get 5,6,7 years out of an electronic Ignition and I know they don't work their tractors. It really depends on how hard you plan on working it.

i throw distributers away and put wico mags on my antiques to MAKE THEM MORE RELIABLE, nothing was ever wrong with a properly maintained magnito. more electrical issues seam to rise from over complicating these things

I had electronic on 3 tractors for 2 years and they ALL went out last year. I'm going back to points. Still expensive but alot of times I can clean em if they act up and I can get new ones about anywhere. Tsc ,NAPA. Case IH, Skillings Tractor, Rural King. That way I don't have to leave it in the field or something.

If your only getting a couple years out of those units don't you think it would be better just to switch back to points and condenser? I can respect your opinion, but it's a glorified Hall effect sensor. It doesn't care if it's idling or full tilt.
As hard as I run my tractors, I go through more points. Either way, I'm digging into the distributor.
