  • I need some help for the slot car community. I love this car, the iconic General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard but it sounds awful! What can I do to fix it? #scalextric #slotcars #slotcarsareback #generallee #dukesofhazzard

I've just bought one of those, my first new slot car since 1980 ! I was recreating my set from when I was a kid but when I saw the Dukes of Hazard I had to have it. Mine is also a bit noisy but hopefully I can fix it as per the link posted here

As a RC car person, that sounds like where two gears meshing not quite squarely, or something is throwing the mesh out.

The main reason for that chatter noise on these cars is the bushings for the rear axle are moving in the chassis, this makes the distance between the axle and the motor change which changed the mesh on the gears. Glue the bushings into the chassis it will make it quite a bit quieter :) Home Racing world has three videos on tuning up one of these, changing guide, tyres, body and chassis work, the main bit you probably want to look at is here th-cam.com/video/gwqFCgfiCZc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iaG36w47AjDiZIJP&t=384

As others have said, initially sounds like gear mesh - but could be an issue with how the bushings are seated (or not seated). Removing the body and a close inspection should allow you to sort it out straightaway and give it a fix.

As other commenters have said, check the gear mesh to see if it's good and that no gears are cracked. I have a lot of Pioneer cars and have never had problems with the wheel bearings, but I suppose that could be it or one may not be snapped in all the way. Cheers, I hope it's an easy fix!

Could be the motor or axle isn’t clipped in correctly causing a gear mesh
Had that happen to a couple cars

I concur on the gears not meshing up correctly.

I’m miles behind too there aren’t enough hours in the day!! I glued in the bushings and the interior cab was quite rattly so I glued that in place and it’s so much better now!

😮Put toothpaste on the gears and let it run in under 6V, rear wheels off track, for 2h. Just a little and best if you use whitening toothpaste, as it has some kind of polishing sand in it.
Oil bushings once in a while.
