Despite recent acquisition of two advanced, sensor-laden EADS 295 Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA), our maritime security needs remain unmet. This deployment appears more focused on optics than genuine contribution, using our national flag as clickbait. I urge the government to prioritize homeland security, deploy our assets accordingly, charter appropriate resources for aid delivery, and provide our military with suitable transport aircraft for humanitarian efforts.
Having these aircraft is one thing but they can't stop and board ships. While the naval fleet we have remains tied up in storage because the government won't pay our defence forces properly this will keep happening

To be totally honest we just don't have any capability to combat any Russian operations in or around Ireland. Russian foreign intelligence work is better funded and trained and we rely too much on the Brits and Yanks to identify threats. Regarding any identifiable threats, Russian, cartel or otherwise, nothing will change until we apportion more of our budget to military expenditure so we have an adequate number of vessels equipped to threaten and board other vessels. Trying to apportion our budget will be impossible since the Irish public are heavily anti-military.
