Up here in Scotland its my go to radio and today I was listening to Radio Caroline on 648khz running 1kw. from 400 miles away in Suffolk, England. Its good on SW too. This is the radio that I always recommend to novices to the hobby. Its not perfect. Its ergonomics are not the best but its a great performer, can be recharged via phone charger, has good battery performance. For around £70 you can't beat it. 73s
I am a fan of your videos both for the information but also because you have one of the best unintentional ASMR voices on TH-cam. Nice neutral subject matter, great voice. Better than antihistamines right before bedtime.

At the frequency 1620 kHz during the day, you forgot to select the narrower bandwidth, as you did correctly with the Tecsun PL-660 radio. Could you please demonstrate the playback quality of all radios in the price range of an XHData 808, Tecsun PL-330, PL-660 and Sangean PR-D15 at the same receiver bandwidth, the same volume (level meter of a sound editing program) and at only one receiving frequency 1620 kHz? The whole thing would be better without commentary, except at the beginning and end, because then you could focus entirely on the differences. I like your reviews very much. 👍👏🏻
I’m in the mountains so I’d love a more sensitive A.M. receiver. But I’m a ham operator as well, sooo. I would get the pl-660 but I need the filters for cw/ssb. Hmmm
todderbert I have a Sony 7600gr and an Eton s350dl. Some smaller emergency units. I just picked up a pl-660 as a back up to my Sony. I appreciate the help,
Oh a whim after watching this vid, I bid for one on Ebay and won for $67. Seems normal selling price is $90-$105 or so. Will probably not arrive till after Christmas from China.
I could, but my current setup is limited by my Wife's current Working at Home Status since the Pandemic started. Eventually I will have that area back for SW Listening.
It's a good radio but quite slow to operate to my taste. And battery life is not great. Recently I bought the pl330 and this is an amazing radio for the price (cheaper than the d808). 0-30 mhz, SSB, multiple filters, sync detection. But no air band. One negative side is the battery, why the hell to continue to use these nokia batteries ? I'll mod it soon to install a 3000mah battery but it implies some destruction inside the radio. Already modded the antenna and now reception is great in lw and even better in mw.

I love that there is more music on MW, even WGN has evenings of music broadcasts instead of sports and current local news.

Here is my big question. Tecsun pl-660, Eton executive or xhdata 808. What is the best overall radio in order including ssb.
for shortwave SSB the PL-660, for everything else the Eton Executive followed by the more portable D-808.

Does the squelch work on SW? or on the other band? That would be useful for when listening to hams.
It does but doesn’t seem to do very well on SW.
