- Nothing good lasts forever. I've been playing the Budapest Defense against 1. d4 for many years now, but recently a young opponent sprung a completely new system against me and I realized it is time to say farewell to this great opening. We've had many adventures together! Countless are the number of sacs on h3, the satisfying rook-lifts in the Adler-variation or the smothered mates in the Rubinstein-variation. Now I'm onto new adventures and I'm excited to see what my new weapon against the dreaded 1. d4 will be!

I know - Levy changed the TH-cam game for better and for worse. He grew the audience to a size almost unthinkable, but he also started a style that was and is so effective that the rest of us have to adapt or we will be forgotten.
@@ASMRChess Understandable, but, quite a jarring emotional shift to try to make a relaxing video after trying to shock people. While clickbait titles do work it's important to think about whether the emotion you're invoking suits the style of content. Maybe I'll be wrong but I'd expect this dissonance to have an effect on algorithm metrics such as videos watch time and like ratio, time will tell I suppose.
Used to like Levy but his clackbaitery has become almost offensive lately. He's the boy who cried wolf so many times, I don't think it's sustainable.
I ended up unsubscribing to Levy, it's just not the kind of content I want to watch. Titles are clearly an important part of directing peoples attention to your videos and I'm not against clickbait in itself really, I just think this channel should focus on positive associations with it's clickbait rather than negative ones. I've seen every ASMR Chess video but this is the first one I didn't feel relaxed while watching, because of what I thought it was going to be about.@@jakecruise90

unfortunately i dont think he has a choice. as he said in another comment 'Even though I am working 10 times as hard as I have ever done, my views are lower than they’ve been ever since my channel started growing'. Hes pushing out so many videos, all good quality but i think the reason his views are decreasing is that most of his videos are the same (i enjoy whatever he uploads). so someone who has seen one of his chess videos and didnt like it, never watches another because they are mostly all so similar. while i understand the channel is dedicated to chess because that is what he enjoys, i think if he wants to continue growing the channel he should try other things. for me, hes gotten to the point where when i see ASMR Chess, i dont think of asmr about chess, i think of the voice and his mannerisms. for that reason i dont think making videos unrelated to chess would be a bad idea. it doesnt even have to not be chess, but something other than just a game. it could be reading chess theory or looking at and making sounds with chess pieces, just something different. thats just what i think, im not at all sure how the algorithm or youtube recommendations work.

I am in love with the little variations in your mixes from video to video - they're all consistently super high quality, but each distinct in little ways that give them their own identity. There are just really subtle differences like mic setups and different frequency responses that absolutely melt my brain. It really gives me the impression that you're always experimenting and developing, which is endlessly charming.
I would absolutely love to see an in depth ASMR Chess production breakdown, what tech/fx you use, and how you make your voice sound even more buttery smooth than it already is :)

Ooh an audiophile! I’m so happy you notice this as I feel that most listeners can’t actually tell the difference. I always try to make the audio a little better or a little different. I think my next project is to go more raw; just high quality large diaphragm mics with no post processing.

just the situation of it all. you admitting your ego is so refreshing to hear and made the experience all the more relaxing. and the fact that yoy were beaten by such a strange idea, and now im no real chess strategist, im a casual chess player in passing, but i could SEE how screwed your knight was. and you saying you just didnt see it until it was too late, so humbling yet gratifying. chess players admitting their errors and being amazed by them is so lovely imo.
also idk why but i love you not showing us the rest. it doesnt prove the point to continue. the point isnt a crazy checkmate or intense back and fourth. it was over by the point you stopped. and i love that. it feels like a story meant to be unsatisfying and yet is all the more satisfying from the fact that this dissatisfaction is so perfectly achieved.

I’m sorta a newbie to chess, I’ve been playing since October, and your videos help motivate me. When I first started learning very fundamentals of chess, I stumbled upon your ASMR explanation of the Sicilian hyper accelerated dragon variation. I practiced it to death. I fell in love with that variation, and in turn it helped me to fall in love with the game of chess. Today I went to my first in real life chess meeting, like, ever, and played my first in person games with other people, besides playing casually with friends who I’d beg to be my opponents (who, no offense to my friends, but they don’t play chess often and therefore aren’t that good of opponents). I got paired against a guy twice my age, with a decade of experience, and I’m not going to lie, it was very nerve wracking for me, I’m not a social person. I played sicilian and attempted a version of the dragon variation - I lost. However, I lasted a long time in that game, and could tell I made him have to think. It was mostly only one miscalculation towards the end that set my grave. Me and him played two other games, which I also both lost, but I had more fun than I had in a long time. @@ASMRChess i unfortunately did not write out the game, we played casually and I’m not well versed in chess notation (yet). However I am looking into signing up for the USCF and to start playing rated games soon!
