This brings back memories. I flew BNE-LAX via CAN. Boarding was weird. Rather than announcing row numbers you had to line up in groups depending on row number. Cabin crew were very strict about not have phones turned on, even in flight mode. I was told I could charge it as long as it was turned off. Transit on the way back from LA was 18 hours and included a hotel & breakfast with return transfers. Very easy and I used cash to buy metro tickets to visit the Canton Tower. CZ was okay. Food wasn’t great and only milky sweet coffee was available, even in the one flight I flew in Business on the A380. Interesting experience and your video brought back memories of my own experience in 2017.
now they are not that strict about the phone problem. several years ago, because of state's gov strict policy, they had to do everything possible to make sure it secure. CZ is famous for their Cantonese food in China, but western food is so so in fact.
Great video mate , with the 144 visa free entry do you have to fly to another country before heading back to U.K. , or could you if you wanted fly there spend 3 nights fly direct back , cheers fella
I'm pretty sure you need to visit a different country before flying back to the departing country, I've taken this from the 'china-briefing' website: "it is important to note that, in order to be eligible for visa-free transit, you must be going on to a third country after leaving China. Entering China under the visa-free transit policy when not continuing travel to a third country will be considered illegal entry to the country."
Nice video. My heritage is from Guangzhou. A slight note that bugged me off is how you pronounced Guangzhou. gwang·zow is how you're supposed to pronounce it. but once again nice video
yes there were usually two options on the plane itself but there is an option under your booking to request a different meal for any dietary requirements.
Hate it when ppl describe economy class as cattle class or make comments like how to survive economy. Not all of us are fortunate enough to have a choice. Economy gets you to your destination just as quick in more than half the price.
@@Jamie_Does_Life Thank you for your response!! I'm going to have a 16hr layover in Guangzhou next week as well but not sure if i'm going to have to get my checked luggage during the layover or it can get through my final destination which is London :(
@@tr.minhhieu how did you find the layover in guangzhou ? I’m flying from Heathrow to Australia in a few weeks with china southern and I can’t find any info relating to wether I need to get my bag and check it onto the second leg of the journey or not(only got a 5 hour layover)Also a quick one I’m a smoker will I have to exit the airport and go through security again if I want to smoke? Might have to firm it for the whole journey 😬
@@Musicsoundsbetterwithyou17 If I’m not wrong (do check on their website again as well) You could apply for entry to China if the layover above 8 hours at Guangzhou :)
I got the visa upon arrival. If you are rejected you probably have to return to your original destination or stay in the airport until your next flight
The transit visa desk asked me to fill out a form with details on accomodation, how long I was staying etc. They also asked me to show proof my onward flight. This is all they asked
Hello, Can you explain how the 144 hrs work? If I stopover for 5 days in Shanghai then travel to Japan. Then return from Japan to Shanghai for another 2 days before returning to my home destination from Shanghai. Will the 5 initial days and the 2 days after Japan mean that I’m over the 144 hrs free visa or will the 5 days and 2 days count separately? I.e I will need to apply for another visa on my return from Japan?
My understanding is you’d need to apply for another one on your return as the visa is only for transit, and you will have finished transiting once you’ve left for Japan.
@@Jamie_Does_Life Thank you for responding. I wonder if there will be any issues applying for another free visa in such a short space of time. I can’t seem to find this information anywhere.
@@__linhanh_ I mean , you don't need anything for health quarantine, no more health quarantine (although there is still health checks on arrival, won't check you unless your temperature is high or something)

Great video. That is my favorite chibese airlines. Did you check in a bag. Whwre they strict with the weight
I checked in a bag but mine only weighed 10kg so not sure how strict they are if you go over your weight allowance sorry
Did you have any options for your meals? If not, do you need to pre-request special meals, like a vegetarian option?
yes there were usually two options on the plane itself but there is an option under your booking to request a different meal for any dietary requirements.
Hi Jamie.Magic nothing fancy just said it as it's on the tin thanks
Cheers John, appreciate it
credit should go to the heathrow caterer
Hi Jamie
I’m flying next month . Do they still do health checks ?
No health test required
Covid19 restrictions removed. There are cameras scanning for body temps but not sure if they were working/switched on, that was it.

Is there any free hotels you get provided?
I believe China southern offer transit hotels but only if you meet certain criteria, like longer than a certain amount of time
@@Jamie_Does_Life What about 9 hours transit? I think their transit hotels are 8 hours and above
