I have the original hardware Culture Vulture. So I did a comparison. I was very curious to find out how close the plugin comes to the original. The character of the plugins distortion is indeed the character of the original Culture Vulture. So you get that sound. There is a big difference in sound quality though. The hardware ads a lot of dimension. The source material never get muffled. With the plugin it does. But that was to be expected. Analog distortion is the most difficult thing to emulate. The extra options on the software does help to correct that muffled sound. But I never got near the sound of the hardware. But for the plugin world, it's a very nice plugin. Like most of Arturia's effect plugins. If you do use this kind of plugins, be really careful with it. Don't throw it at everything.
@@gffg387 What he said is true more than likely if you have the hardware side by side with the plugin. However, the majority of users just won't ever be in a side-by-side shootout environment. And personally, from a production stand point, the majority of listeners won't be able to tell the difference in the end anyways. If you love analog gear and can afford it then you go be you. If you prefer to mix in the box for whatever reason then equally go be you. As long as the end user enjoys your content.

I like it ! It sounds like adding a fair amount of distortion (grit and character) but without breaking up in an unpleasatn way or losing too much of the original audio. So for example it easily turned a vocal into a raspy voice, which sounded nice and i imagine that would work well in a mix. Also looks like the settings available make this quite versatile.
Culture Vulture is prominent in The Prodigy sound starting from "Fat Of The Land" album. I love it! I'm thinking about upgrading the Arturia FX bundle just for that one. Thanks for the video
I never knew that! Makes me want one even more. Liam must of used it on his drums right? Hearing it on these drums in this video and it's insanely good! Can approximate it with other plugins sure, but jeez it sounds nice!

gUYS, Word from the wise: this plugin is NOT a replacement for Pulsar Modular's P42 Climax. YOU MAY USE BOTH on the SAME project. The P42 still does a good, bang-up job in M/S tilt saturation balancing and clarification to the harmonics of the signal of the song of course.
Very interesting plugin. Always wondered what the hardware unit sounded like. Well, the plugin is somewhat different sounding than other "tubes" plugins like Black Box, for example, which I use from time to time. And, as usual, a very good demonstration. Definitely a good little mix tool… don’t think I’d ever buy the hardware and for that reason a plugin of it much appreciated… it’s enough to give this specific sound to a choice part in a mix… my most preferred sources were the female voice and the guitar, giving the lower harmonics to add weight to the sound without them being too low… not sure on the use in two bus, it might fit something at some time but I’m not getting overly excited by it or would probably not ever get to thinking of ever trying it out… Arturia have done a great job though, it’s definitely win if you already have the complete bundle

I have the UAD version of this it's the one plugin from them that I can honestly say is a disappointment. It's decent for extreme distortion effects but outside of that, not really that good,....and buggy. This one seems much more usable throughout it's range and on different sources. Thanks again David!

Hey David, do you still like the Arturia compressors and preamps? I'm considering grabbing the FX Collection 3 while it's at the introductory price, or if the money is better spent on softube options.
They are profoundly different, this one is a tube emulation, P42 is a transformer + other things. P42 is just a superior piece of software, probably the closest to analog that we have right now and something you can throw literally everywhere, this is definitely a specialty plugin with much more limited uses
So what’s the verdict on how it compares to the hardware unit? Also, was there ever a hardware emulation plugin that nailed the sound it was made to emulate?
I think plugins like this should be taken for what how they sound not really worrying about a direct comparison with hw. Because especially with tubes, the difference is still there and apparent, see my HG-2 vs the plugin.. but yes there are a handful of plugins that emulated the hw succesfully, one that comes to mind is the P42 climax and some of the Softube analog emulations.

Love Arturia still using their 73 and tube STA for distortion bass, it adds warm and de harsh the top end
It does sounds 3d to me very good job from arturia I used it with audiority and fuse audio those sounds amazing and no cpu issues.

I've heard the demos of the Overloud Gem version of the Vulture and it sounded very good too.
But it's not an emulation of the hardware. They stole it, renamed it, painted a pretty picture of it..
