I saw you grinning ear to ear using that lift! LOL, glad you're enjoying the new shop, that El Camino reminds me of my old 82 Monte, same engine, Keystone Klassics and Goodyear Eagles...what a sweet cruiser it was! Thanks for sharing this job with us, always enjoyable! God bless!
El Camino - talk of a great movie. Now thats a great video.
A1981 El Camino with a 350. Nice choice of engine.
80 Malibu classic was my first car and I too added 2 more cylinders way back when you could get a rebuild kit for a 350 from summit for about $150. ❤
Shoot man that’s a sick elco. Mine has the original 3.8 with 107,000 miles. Freaking bullet proof. Goal is to make it 300 - 350 hp
My 1982 Monte Carlo had GM's 3.8 (229) V6 and it had more than enough power for me plus it got 26mpg on the highway! That car had 270,000 miles with the original engine when I sold it.
When I was taking college classes I had a prof who was an engineer on the buick 3.8 program! He us told there wasn't a more versatile engine in the gm line ,it could be build into several different engine platforms! Economy, performance, or both! Gm hated it! I don't remember the various displacements . He said they change the decking, cams, and such for the different engines. I do he said one option was the 3.1!They wanted overhead value engines no pushrod engines! I had classmate in high school raced indy cars with buick 3.8's. They probably were pushing close to what the v-8's were putting out! I don't remember if they still running that motor when he was killed at indy in a practice run! I owned a 79 regal 3.8 turbo, the problem I had was detonation when turbo kicked in, of course long after I got rid of the car I figured out I was running 87 octane fuel, should have been using mid-range or higher! I had problems with the car ,we 5 hr trip and all the fell out of turbo flange where the exhaust attached to the turbo. The radiator developed a split around the outlet, and the brake line got a leak in it going to the back! We didn't own very long just long enough to get it payed for!
Excellent video Jay, but I do not feel the love for 70's and early 80s V6 engines, i can fully understand why he wants it gone.
Wish I had that AC set up for my 1980 V6
Knew a fellw who put a Subaru engine in a gocart. he almost killed himself on it. Literally drove it under s tractor trailer. So he brought it home and cut it in half with a torch because he was afraid someone would die on that thing and he would feel responsible. did the same thing after he put a big block in an mg midget. Crazy smart dude! Now it's s turbo dodge rampage, anf a tirbo Subaru in a mini truck.
After seeing all that smog and vacuum system stuff I’m happy to have but ONE vacuum line on my car! Good luck with the Camino. I had no idea they were even available with a V6. I thought they were 305’s. 350 is a much better choice!
An interesting swap would be a early 90s Camaro/Firebird Buick 3800 V6.
Thats exactly what I want to do. Sons camaro has the narrow 2.8. I think this bolt pattern matches the front wheel drive pattern but not sure.
Get rid of the air conditioner and smog pump and the car will run a lot better.
Get a 700 R4 on that 350ci and that should haul ass mine is only a 305ci and it runs good. ELCO 1987.

I don’t think I like what it says about me when a 1981 vehicle doesn’t immediately strike me as being old.
To new of a car for me! Not nearly enough steel in the interior to smack the cranium on. lol
Thats the model(single headlight) of ElCamino I like. I would have gone for a 4200 straight six myself or an "upgraded" 3.8L v6 heheheheh.
