My father was a volunteer fireman for over 40 yrs. Every year they had a christmas party for a group of "kids" from a state facility (institution) . I looked forward to the party every year as well as helping to get food and drinks for them . setting up the cartoon movies - like this one . then it was time for Santa to arrive via the fire truck . All the guys took turns being Santa . The last party that took place was very bitter sweet . These "kids" looked forward to seeing Santa . Since all the guys already did their turn , the only one left to be Santa was this old girl and it was my pleasure to step into the red suit . After the "kids" left to head back to the facility , I was joined by the firemen to go up to a nursing home . We did this partly because the patients in there never had visiters , so we gave them a memory of joy and happiness . We also would sing Christmas Songs and give hugs to those who wanted one . I would do it all again if I could . The movies ? Well there were some black and white and some in color . I really enjoyed the ones in black and white more than the ones in color . They were a part of history which made them priceless.
6:43 for those of you who don't know, Flip is checking under the bed for the -bedpan- chamber pot, which was a 'convenience' item for farmhouses that did not have inside plumbing back in those days. The -bedpan- chamber pot would save a trip to the outhouse during the night, especially if it was very cold outside. My grandparents had used -bedpans- chamber pots when they were growing up in the early 1900's. Look at his grim face at 6:45 when he doesn't find a -bedpan- chamber pot under there. No -bedpan- chamber pot would mean that if he had to go to the bathroom overnight, his only good option would be to go outside at night to the out house to 'do his business'. Ha, and then he whispers into the skeleton's ear "brzh brszh brrzh" asking where does he go to the bathroom.
@Ali Hadizadeh Moghadam - 😂 Ha! I never asked my grandparents that question. I guess if one needed to urinate, the odor might not be too bad. As for 💩, one might have options, such as deciding if it would be "worth it" to go outside and use the outhouse. If not, maybe put a towel over it and put it in a closet if they had a closet, and dump it outside in the morning, or maybe put it in a hallway🤔 Edit: think of people in the hospital who can't get out of bed use a bedpan.
This is an incredibly well thought out cartoon, with a coherent plot, some of the best drawing ever, and countless perfect details such as the facial expressions (love that horse), the remarkable warped design of the house, the music, the voices (!) and the expressiveness of the skeletons. Artistically it all just flows together. Possibly Ub's finest work and a real masterpiece. --- PS it shows that Flip had real star potential. Too bad it never got realized. --PPS That finale is chilling.
I love how detailed the skeletons are. I mean, there's contours for the jaw muscles. Though, it's sort of weird seeing human legs on a dog skeleton given the attention put into the chicken.
1:59 notice the butler has "hair" on the side, but is bald on top. And i love how the ghost skeleton turns the chicken around to give Flip the 'tail end' of the chicken, but of course Flip doesn't want it because it is 'dark meat' and puts it back on the plate and folds his hands, ha ha. Then Flip's polite chattering of his teeth on the leg bone to make believe he is 'eating' it.
Love these vintage cartoons! All hand drawn and painted by artists -- not this computer generated animation of today. I think the older Disney cartoons and Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes were among the best -- my opinion. Still prized collector's items are the hand painted "cels" from those early cartoons if you can find them.

@@jsl151850b Yes, like the music scene here. Ub must have put A LOT of work into the ones that aren't. But he sort of invented the skeleton cartoon and it was a tour de force back then, even The Skeleton Dance was only 3 years before this.

great character design in this one--easily one of the most effective 'toons put out by anyone---including DISNEY---during this period. If you ever put together a double bill of the early 30s FRANKENSTEIN/KING KONG---put this baby on first as an 'appetiser' treat---brilliant entertainment!
I think the video was called "Jack and the Beanstalk". I seem to remember an introduction to the video, which showed a line of fairytale characters dancing down a rainbow. Is it on TH-cam?
I can’t believe there was a classic Cartoon Frog way before some animated Muppets & way way before the Disney show Amphibia. 2:02, 2:43 & 5:25 Wait a minute, I’ve seen those clips before. (Gasp) I saw those on that EYEWITNESS Documentary “SKELETON”. Now I know where the footage came from.
I have been searching for this video for so long, no one can imagine how happy I am to have finally found it.

That would be cut out or censored in todays cartoons.
I had no idea this existed! Didn't the odor bother them during the night?
Thanks for the insight!

Happy To Discover This! Wonderful!! Thanx!!🌛🌛🐈⬛🐈⬛🦇🦇🎃🎃🎃🖤
Classic cartoons i love it they're way better than the junk we have today
A pity that these older animations are not shown on tv
Better than today

Old style Cartoons were much sweeter, funny, fun even though they were in black&white.
I've never heard of this one !! I absolutely loved it! Thanks for sharing❤😊
I love top hat skeleton guy's facial expressions! He's both cute and genuinely creepy, judging by that sudden dark turn.
Yeah me too
I like how he says to Flip, in tempo, "You're just - in time - to dine." In the same tempo as the walking chair at 1:48.
I used to watch this as a kid every halloween lol
Kakyoin!
O
Love those cartoons, hard to believe they are from a time before my dad was born.
Better than modern horror films anyway
Ub Iwerks and Carl Stalling. What a great team!
That’s a fact two of the greatest of all time

2:46 did you notice how the dog sniffs the corner, then lifts its leg like it is going to pee, but then scratches himself instead?🤣
Yes 😂😂
And the louse is a skeleton somehow.
Old cartoons are so much better than the ones rn
Love weird old animation like this.
Some of them are just some fuckin masterpieces
i love how the horse is just gonna chill out there for a while now
I was SO not expecting to hear him say "shut up" to that horse, especially not in that semi-unenthused voice. I couldn't stop laughing!
Unownshipper I actually snorted laughing when that happened.
Unownshipper before uptight politics.
Unownshipper dude yeah
Horse didn't say anything WTF lol

The creepy house in a storm is always safe :)
Just when I was beginning to think they were nice skeletons.
They dont make them like they used to
What a fun little cartoon
Several off-color jokes emphasize this cartoon was made before the Hays Code went into effect in 1934.
Fabuloso. Me encantan éstas caricaaturas. Gracias.
Another 16mm favorite of mine to borrow from the Seattle Public Library... back in the day.

That skeleton had a great, expressive face. I love skeleton cartoons just after ghost cartoons, but the skeletons are much harder to draw.
I find it so funny that skeleton cartoons are common enough to have a name. Such a specific genre.
As a fan of Skeleton Cartoons, you have to have noticed that in most cases the inside of their ribcage is opaque.
