  • In October of 2005, I had the unique opportunity to sit down with the greatest and most celebrated high school basketball player from the state of Kentucky. The 1956 Mr. Basketball died at the age of 80 on Father's Day 2019. The King was forthcoming and humble when we met at his home in Wayland. This is part one of two and certainly one of the best days of professional career.

      Sorry for just now seeing this. Thank you. King Kelly is the most interesting subject in the history of Kentucky high school basketball. He was humbled by his early life and, when learned to let down his guard, he realized how much people loved him.

      Jerry West was just being nice. Watch the game film of King Kelly then tell me he was great! Couldn’t and didn’t dribble with his left hand!
