I've learned more in an hour with these videos than I have my entire lifetime of just trying stuff and hoping it would work. I've already gotten better at eyebrows and foundation, now I gotta step up my eyeshadow game! (I never know what colors would work better together or if it's too much/too little on my face). So glad I found these!
Incredibly helpful!! Arrogantly I thought I knew everything I needed to know about eye brushes 🙄. You are a great teacher, very calming and of course, knowledgeable. I love watching your videos Shonagh ❤️
This is fabulous! I learned so much about exactly how to use the brushes, rather than just which brushes you like, etc. This is a rare and much appreciated video❣️❣️❣️
Just found your channel. I’ve been binge watching different videos ,using make up brushes ,all day. This is THE best video! I love how you demonstrated which brush to use and why for different purpose s. Can’t wait to see more!
I have literally always wondered what the smaller brushes were good for - I'd LOVE to see a face brush 101! Great vid, I might tackle a pencil brush one of these days 😂
That wing was PERFECT! I really need to practice my wings. I rarely attempt to do them. I have one eye that's hooded as well, so I would have to apply them using different techniques on each eye, so I have TWO different ways I have to learn and practice! Lol.
Okay I'm new to make up. I'm ridiculous. I bought All Eye Want 6 piece brush set by Morphe and there are no instructions so I'm pretty clueless, I recognized some brushes you mentioned. I feel like the names are different though. Tapered Crease Brush, Line Definer brush, Firm Blender brush, Small Chisel brush, Smudge brush, and a double sided angle brush and spoolie.
This is brilliant! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge about brushes. I’m a newbie in makeup and I’m lost on what to buy and how to use the brushes I already have. This video is a godsend! Subscribed!
Hope you had a lovely Christmas and very happy new year to all your family and friends. Thank you for this video it's very helpful, because I love buying brushes for the eyes and practicing doing eye makeup LOL 😉trying to learn from the Best 👊🏽☺️ God bless xx
Right, I'm off to raid the kids' art and craft box for a paintbrush! Joking! But I'll be investing in a nice thin one for my makeup bag. Also, LOVE your ear-rings!
Thanks for a very detailed tutorial Shonagh! Yes, a face brush tutorial would be awesome. What do you use to clean your brushes? Hope you had a great new year! Xx
Hi Carol, I have three videos with different tips and techniques for brush cleaning - although I still religious use my StylPro Brush cleaner: th-cam.com/video/EuY4w0UyZTA/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/empci1P1ons/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/1hbT0JibGtc/w-d-xo.html
I just live your videos so much! You are so talented. Could you do a video on "non traditional brushes"? I have a few eye brushes that I look at as if they are from Mars. For example:I have a ROYAL AND LANGNICKEL Revolution BX-90 eye brushes and it is a long bristle crease brush...??? I don't really know 🤨😊. Again, I love your videos and I have been watching you for a ling time now, a couple of years for sure.
Haha I know exactly what you mean 😂! On top of that I had gotten some generic ones and they all look the same, I'm like really....so now I'm just sticking to my old ones ♥
I’ve just looked that brush up, it’s just a synthetic version of the pointed crease brush I showed on here. Ideal for creating cut creases and more precise blending work. I’m not too much a fan of those synthetic ones through the crease as they can often be quite stiff and tougher on the skin. I tend to stay away from the bizarre looking brushes, lol... a lot of brands try to be innovative but if it’s not broke don’t fix it, as they say! ☺️🙌🏼
@@ShonaghScott Thank you for responding to me and in so much detail. I just wish I could be as artistic as you are. I LOVE makeup so much and I really try..like so much of my time is learning and daydreaming by watching you and others here on you tube but I keep trying. No matter what, I STILL LOVE IT SO MUCH!
Thanks, Brenda! Exactly, and some people will hopefully take something new away from each video even if they already know a lot. I know I do when watching tutorials, my favourite part is learning new tips and tricks from other people! :D
Shonagh you make it look so easy loved this video, i have most of those brushes except for the very small socket brush that you use to build up your outer eye shape. I will have to invest in one.❤
Happy New Year Shonagh! Thank you thank you thank you!!! This video is probably my fav and will be my most helpful one when it comes to brushes. I've always been a little overwhelmed with the amount of brushes on the market and never really knew what they all did. I will purchase these now and not feel like I'm wasting money. xoxo
Dawn Jones Yay, so pleased it was super helpful for you! There’s SO many brushes that aren’t necessary, so I thought I’d show my essentials for creating any look! Happy New Year!
Will you please do an army green/olive green look that will make dark hazel eyes stand out??? Especially products that could be found at the drugstore or ultra. Love your videos!!
FANTASTIC tutorial, thank you!! I can feel a brush shop coming on 😉I was looking at the Too Faced Palette that you used and noticed that it's available with the same colours but in mat. Would the eye look you did in this tutorial work using mat shadows using the shimmer just on the centre of the lid to highlight? Using all shimmer shadows makes my eyelids look crapey /wrinkly ( the joys of getting older!!!)
Hi Victoria, I didn't link it as the name has worn off. I've just checked an old tutorial for the details of it, and it is from Hobby Craft named 'Arte Prolene 101 Series'. They come in different sizes, this will be part of the zeros - just have a look if you pop in store at the size you like.
Thank you for sharing this Shonagh. Very informative. Would you recommend a duo fibre for foundation for drier skin types. I find the foundation flakes around nose and cheek area sometimes.
Sass 83 When it comes to drier skin it’s usually better to tackle the skin care to avoid as much flaking as possible, remember your makeup is only as good as your skin. So get some rich hydration going on and maybe try a chemical exfoliant in with your routine to help with the flaking. Whilst your skin is flaking you might get on better with a sponge as you can bounce on the skin as opposed to dragging up the skin.
Hi I just wondered what eyeliner you used as it looked good on your waterline ,I struggle with that as I'm older and my tight line doesn't stay on too well. Thanks
Hi Suzanne, It's the Bobbi Brown Longwear Gel Eyeliner in Sepia Ink 02. I mix it with a little bit of Inglot Duraline - it makes the product more fluid but also waterproof so it lasts a lot longer. Type 'Shonagh Scott Duraline' into the TH-cam search box and my tutorials where I use it will come up :)
Happy New year Shonagh! Love the vídeo :) i just bought a set of zoeva brushes and this vídeo was really helpful .thank you!! You make this so easy:)) by the way..What eyeshadow did you used ? Lots of love from Portugal ;))
I was wondering if there is a difference between quality brushes? What I mean is there a difference between the lower cost brushes and higher cost brushes? If these brushes have the same hairs will they have the same effect as one another? Sorry for my crappy punctuation.
You do tend to get better quality hair with more expensive brushes, mostly when it comes to natural hair. Synthetic hair is pretty much the same, the other differences might be the cut and shape when it comes to price. But I use many affordable brushes and they last me years without shedding or looking old.

Ah, well I'm pleased to have helped answer a few of your brush queries. Pencil brushes are handy, worth having in your makeup bag!
Awesome tutorial! It gave more information on each brush than any I’ve ever seen. BRAVO!!!!!
