Our Journey! How did we get here?
In the winter of 2019 we moved in to our self built van full time to begin living, working and travelling Canada. We quickly fell in love with chasing our dreams of adventuring off the beaten path, living off grid and being self sustaining. We drove our van thousands of miles through various countries-Canada, USA, Mexico & Guatemala. All of which we documented here on our channel, be sure to check that out! After many years on the open road we found ourselves 15 acres of remote woods of Canada where we are building a homestead and renovating our fully off the grid cabin. We are diving into this chapter of our lives in no experience, we're so happy we can bring you all along as we learn to do it all with our own two hands. The fact that you are working outside in black fly season is a feat in and of itself. Doing roofing is NOT for the faint of heart. You DO deserve bravery awards. Yes, you do need a break!
Im n southern California an we have awful swarms of mosquitoes 2 different kinds an we have flies too obviously an we have huge horse Flys 🪰 that bite but the ones u guys r talking about im sure I couldn't do it but u guys r amazing in all u have done blows my mind I used to b very active an my daughter an I just took care of what ever we needed to do within reason we didn't do the roof or a/c but now I'm 48 an disabled

We do love spiders. My mother Laurie would never kill a spider. We always had one in our bathroom and we called her Charolette 🤣💛
@@Vanwives i Could neevvvveer! I live in Germany so fortunately, we do Not have too large spiders. But we do still have , big, deep dark Black, furry spiders. I cannot kill them because i am so scared, but i cant live with them either 😅 just imagining to have them and near of my bed or bathroom, gives me Bad anxiety
@@danachristina1729 My parents didn't kill the non-venomous spiders. We did kill the black widows because they bite and the bites are painful. I found one in my sheets with my right foot. She bit me three times in a 1.5-inch circle. My foot swelled to twice the size and I couldn't move my toes. I couldn't wear a shoe for like 3 weeks. I now have some ultrasonic plug-in bug repellents which are very good at convincing bugs, spiders, and even rodents to live somewhere else other than my house. It is nice because looking up and noticing a black widow in the shower with you halfway through your shower is not fun! I highly recommend the ultrasonic devices, but if you do get a scary spider in your house, just spray it with hair spray. It sounds cool to move them to the outside but when you are too afraid of them... Hey! That is why I use the devices to move them out. No harm to anything and don't bother my dogs or cats. I don't mind the Daddy Long Legs in my house just hanging out though. They are cool.

Thats a huge fear to combat, especially while needing to focus on a project, use olenty of mental/physical energy, combat heat, and combat the bugs. You did a wonderful job and shoukd be proud of your accomplishments

Off the top and in all good ways, Ya's are nuts, but that's what's lovable about both of you.
Being from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia I totally feel for ya on the blackflies, evil little B'trds. I don't miss them at all. I have been gone from Nova Scotia for many years now as far as living there. Vancouver has some blackflies, but they aren't so bad out there in the city. Edmonton, I don't ever remember seeing them there. I live in Toronto now and for the last 13 years, which is going to change soon and there are some blackflies here but again not many. Mosquitos are the ones that get me here in Toronto. Where I'll be living next either the end of September or October, pretty sure there aren't either. Anyway.
I miss Nova Scotia, but not for living there anymore. My sights are set in living overseas with my wife who is Filipino, but our plan isn't the Philippines, atleast not for the next 2 to 4 years, we're going to Dubai. No mosquitos or blackflies there, just venomous snakes, spiders, and I think scorpions, but they are much easier to avoid than biting flies.
Getting back to you both being nuts, 3 properties, 1 almost completed, 1 that needs some significant attention, and the other is just sandy soil, cactus, and bramblebush. Your gonna be building for the next 3 to 4 years. But hey, all the energy to ya if ya got the energy for it, have at it. It'll pay off in the end.
Ya know, everytime I watch your videos, I think of when I was a kid and we used to go to Yarmouth to a cottage very similar to the one that's home for you both. I keep thinking, "wouldn't it be wild if it was the same cottage", but I know its not because I have very vivid memories of it as a kid, but it really is great seeing your cottage as it brings back great memories with my Dad, Mom, Sister, and family friends. I miss those days, especially with so many of them gone now. Thanks for always bringing those memories back when I watch your videos at home in Bridgewater. You both put smiles on my faces because of you both, and the cottage that is home for you.

I respect the effort you put into each and every video that you post. Consider getting a second gorilla ladder and an expandable werner plank. That is what I use all the time. I can move it by myself unlike the scaffolding
