I got a minidv camcorder from 2003 and I love it. Reminds me of when I was a little boy

DV was the first consumer-grade _recordable_ digital video format. On the playback-only side, Philips' CD-i Digital Video was first in 1993, quickly replaced by the very similar but industry-standard VCD format in 1994.

    Thanks for sharing.
I lived through Video 8, Hi8 then DV and found your video interesting.

I also notice in the 4K version of the skate video remaster that the foliage in the trees has the signature distortion of an AI upscale. Nice channel! I enjoy your videos.

Frankly, I did not pay attention to foliage. I looked at diagonals and at the motion. The remaster definitely shows more detail, at least compared to the upload I compared it with. Edge sharpening is noticeable, but not very distracting. I wish they preserved 60 fps motion. Maybe they did, but uploaded at 30p? This would be strange, as TH-cam enabled 60p ten years ago. Also, crailtap uploaded it into a 16:9 frame with pillarboxing, not sure why they chose to do it, but this is a separate minor issue. In some shots their deinterlacer farted, and combing can be seen, but it is not frequent.
The 4K Remaster is on crailtap's channel: th-cam.com/video/v9gyNajxuvQ/w-d-xo.html
A 60p DVD rip I compared it to is here: th-cam.com/video/iXxbaM-uPSw/w-d-xo.html Make sure to watch at 60p.

Nice video! I still using my miniDV camcorders! Much nicer than any smartphone.

Thanks! A smartphone is always with you, but camcorders have their charms. First, a real zoom lens. Also, most (all?) DV camcorders have CCD sensor, which means global shutter, which means no skew and no jello.

@@ConsumerDV Yes, but I have some canon miniDV and the sensor are CMOS and a HDV Sony with 3CMOS. But I prefer my Panasonic cameras, with 3CCD sensors, the colors are incredible good!

Right, although technically HDV is not DV, despite that it uses the same media. Interesting that HDV stipulated using DV/MiniDV tape as recording media, no other media types specified. It follows that DV recorded into a file is still DV, while HDV recorded into a file is merely MPEG-2 MP@H-14.

@@ConsumerDV For shooting between DV or MPEG-2 witch do you prefer? For editing these days with more powerful computers than years ago, it is better for video edition on MPEG-2 or no exist any difference?

Not a serious issue anymore. On my Windows computer 4K AVC is a bit slow, M1 Mac is reportedly much faster. I don't shoot 4K though.
