Autumn Leaves and Butterfly are in my top 5 of all BTS songs. Yoongi put his foot in Autumn leaves and showed that his best genre of writing besides rap, is R&B. Majority of the songs he has written and produced that I love, are his R&B songs. He is especially good at combining classical and hip-hop music together.

as a general tip for this album and future ones, i hope you look up the lyrics on doolset to every song even if you watch a lyric video. most of their songs will have a ton of context that you won't get directly from the lyrics but would help you understand and appreciate the songs way more. in particular on this album whalien 52, ma city and baepsae have a ton of extra context and references that bts make
agreed - although those lyric videos tend to have accurate baseline translations, there's so much that can be missed! For example, I learned about the Gwangju democratic uprising via Doolset's Ma City translation

nevermind's "we're too young to give up" is interesting when you compare it to the sentiment in burn it that giving up decisively also counts as courage. it's 23yo yoongi vs 28yo yoongi, i wonder if they share the same sentiment but just in different circumstances or if yoongi grew into a calmer state of mind that can look back and reflect on his past, if it's something that he wishes to tell his younger self or if he's proud of how he approached life at the time. i think when we're very young is hard to think that we have the option to give up, impossible even "i need to keep going, i can't leave it" but maybe when we grow older we'll look back and we'll say "i'm glad i didn't give up" and "i wish i gave up" at the same time

I've always viewed every song on this album as a ode to youth. The feeling of it slipping past your fingers as you inevitably turn into an adult, a cog in the working of a "disciplined" society. That was when I was 16 years old and now I am 22 and it still holds true. What a masterpiece.

Time for me to write a far too long comment detailing every thought I have throughout this video because I can't not treat your reactions like a conversation 💜 Yes, I am absolutely proud of you. 33:00 "They're in the k-pop genre but they don't sound like K-Pop, like they have certain sounds that do but like, I don't know, something about them... whatever that's besides the point" nope, it's EXACTLY the point and you articulated it very well. I think in the timeline of BTS's history this is when a lot of people were starting to catch onto this exact thing, BTS may be part of the K-Pop industry, but the music they were making was breaking all the stereotypes. It was the elevation from performance to artistry. Extra info regarding Run: lollipops in Kpop are basically stand-ins for cigarettes. While you CAN show smoking in music videos in South Korea (like Suga did in Hageum) it basically means that the video is not going to be broadcast on television. I honestly think that after the headaches from the previous album, when Dope MV couldn't be broadcast on TV because Hobi's verse was too vulgar (generally regarded as an overreaction) and having to rewrite Converse High to Lover's High in order to perform it (because even though they weren't being paid, you can't mention a brand name without it being considered product placement) they just weren't going to mess with it this time, so they went with the implication of it rather than having Namjoon actually smoking. South Korean broadcasting standards are very strict and often kind of ridiculous, Jungkook and Jimin have to hide their tattoos on broadcast but Taehyung once got a massive fake tattoo of vines all over his face and neck and that was fine. A Blackpink MV was banned because a member was driving without a seatbelt, a Psy MV got banned because he kicked a traffic cone and that was considered destruction of public property, a girl group called Orange Caramel had a MV banned because they dressed up as sushi and were wrapped in plastic which was apparently considered "devaluing human life." It's all BIZZARE. Can I just say I love watching you expand your vocabulary through these videos? It's weirdly endearing. 47:00 you know I think that's a fair thing to feel, feeling like you'd still go through those things even if you had a chance to undo them. Even if you're not in love with who your ex is currently, I don't think it's wrong to still hold some fondness for a previous version of her, hold some love for your memories of her and not want to get rid of the moments where you truly were happy. I think it's a pretty mature thing to realise even if it's understandable to resent these feelings at the same time, it's all in balance, the same way you value the growth you experienced and the person you've become after going through pain. Ma City will always have such a special place in my heart- partially because I am a die hard for any rock element BTS incorporates- bu because every time they were mocked for their Satoori or looked down on not being from Seoul they reiterated their pride in their home towns every time. The same way that when they expanded into the west and were looked down on for not being white, for speaking another language, for being from a different culture, they continued to maintain their pride in being Korean. I honestly think to this day that Korea fucked up by not having BTS do a Ma City MV to promote tourism, they were literally ambassadors for Korean tourism, like use the resources you have people I really can't wait for you to watch the Baepsae explanation video, OOF it hits even fucking harder. Fun fact about Autumn Leaves: In 2022, tennis superstar Naomi Osaka met Yoongi at an NBA game and specifically told him that Autumn Leaves was great. I can only imagine how surprised and touched Yoongi was to be complimented on a song he'd written seven years ago, a b-side that hadn't been performed at a concert in YEARS- and it's by the living legend who's won four tennis grand slams and had lit the Olympic cauldron only the year before. Apparently, she had made up her mind a long time ago that if she ever bumped into him, that would be the thing she'd make sure to tell him, truly one of the most iconic celebrity Army and not enough people know about this. The hard cut from you VIBING hard to House of Cards to threatening your nephew about closing the door was so goddamn funny. nevermind is such a powerful song and statement. the message is healing, thats why it's Jimin's first tattoo, the song says "engrave it in your chest" and that's what he did. this era really means a lot to them, JK and Jimin have multiple tattoo related to it but its special to all of them - its an album about their dreams, hopes, dark times, insecurities and silent suffering of being young. It's an album that heals me, and I remember crying listening to it for the first time, especially Nevermind. It's a song I would like every young person to hear. I'm happy to have spent my youth listening to BTS, I'm a better person for myself because of it. and I'm excited for 2025 because they're doing a special 10 years of HYYH era. For them, it's a mantra, just like it is for me.

Side, but related note: Every time I hear someone in media, esp. music critics, say that BTS is too Western/commercial/Pop... whatever, I think about this song and, songs like, "Tomorrow." BTS were making amazing soul-touching music a decade ago when they were broke, but those fools ignored it.
This was amazing, thank you for putting a smile on my face! This is one of my fav bts albums - literally every song is great, no exceptions. And I’m obsessed with all these early j-hope verses (in hyyh and dark & wild specifically), he’s such a breath of fresh air whenever he comes in. So so so talented and unique, he really makes me listen closer every time. His verse in Ma City is very political, please read doolset for more! But basically his hometown Gwangju was the start of the korean movement for democracy, on 18th of may 1980 they had an uprising, fighting against the military dictatorship in S.Korea at the time. And a few years later in 1987, south koreans obtained direct election rights. Which is why he said “518” to end his verse: May 18th.

It’s the era everyone started paying attention to bts either new fans or haters, I remember when the teaser photos dropped and haters started mocking and making fun of bts accusing them of using fake branded clothes they were like “they’re so poor there is no way they can afford it” “they’re so poor they can’t even hired extra actors and even have to used their managers cars for mv” i remember being so frustrated and angry reading the comments and i argued with a LOT of ppl back then but now they’re worth billions as a group and I get emotional everytime I remember… that’s why they’re so special and only those who witnessed the shit they been thru can understand

To me this album perfectly shows their vocals and raps as well as the lyrics and messages. It's so balance evenly. I can't describe it enough. It's just so perfect for me personally. But you didn't listen to the full song of House of cards. There is more! Hope you will listen to it.

I think in the timeline of BTS's history this is when a lot of people were starting to catch onto this exact thing, BTS may be part of the K-Pop industry, but the music they were making was breaking all the stereotypes. It was the elevation from performance to artistry.
Extra info regarding Run: lollipops in Kpop are basically stand-ins for cigarettes. While you CAN show smoking in music videos in South Korea (like Suga did in Hageum) it basically means that the video is not going to be broadcast on television. I honestly think that after the headaches from the previous album, when Dope MV couldn't be broadcast on TV because Hobi's verse was too vulgar (generally regarded as an overreaction) and having to rewrite Converse High to Lover's High in order to perform it (because even though they weren't being paid, you can't mention a brand name without it being considered product placement) they just weren't going to mess with it this time, so they went with the implication of it rather than having Namjoon actually smoking. South Korean broadcasting standards are very strict and often kind of ridiculous, Jungkook and Jimin have to hide their tattoos on broadcast but Taehyung once got a massive fake tattoo of vines all over his face and neck and that was fine. A Blackpink MV was banned because a member was driving without a seatbelt, a Psy MV got banned because he kicked a traffic cone and that was considered destruction of public property, a girl group called Orange Caramel had a MV banned because they dressed up as sushi and were wrapped in plastic which was apparently considered "devaluing human life." It's all BIZZARE.

47:00 you know I think that's a fair thing to feel, feeling like you'd still go through those things even if you had a chance to undo them. Even if you're not in love with who your ex is currently, I don't think it's wrong to still hold some fondness for a previous version of her, hold some love for your memories of her and not want to get rid of the moments where you truly were happy. I think it's a pretty mature thing to realise even if it's understandable to resent these feelings at the same time, it's all in balance, the same way you value the growth you experienced and the person you've become after going through pain.
Ma City will always have such a special place in my heart- partially because I am a die hard for any rock element BTS incorporates- bu because every time they were mocked for their Satoori or looked down on not being from Seoul they reiterated their pride in their home towns every time. The same way that when they expanded into the west and were looked down on for not being white, for speaking another language, for being from a different culture, they continued to maintain their pride in being Korean. I honestly think to this day that Korea fucked up by not having BTS do a Ma City MV to promote tourism, they were literally ambassadors for Korean tourism, like use the resources you have people

Fun fact about Autumn Leaves: In 2022, tennis superstar Naomi Osaka met Yoongi at an NBA game and specifically told him that Autumn Leaves was great. I can only imagine how surprised and touched Yoongi was to be complimented on a song he'd written seven years ago, a b-side that hadn't been performed at a concert in YEARS- and it's by the living legend who's won four tennis grand slams and had lit the Olympic cauldron only the year before. Apparently, she had made up her mind a long time ago that if she ever bumped into him, that would be the thing she'd make sure to tell him, truly one of the most iconic celebrity Army and not enough people know about this.

nevermind is such a powerful song and statement. the message is healing, thats why it's Jimin's first tattoo, the song says "engrave it in your chest" and that's what he did. this era really means a lot to them, JK and Jimin have multiple tattoo related to it but its special to all of them - its an album about their dreams, hopes, dark times, insecurities and silent suffering of being young. It's an album that heals me, and I remember crying listening to it for the first time, especially Nevermind. It's a song I would like every young person to hear. I'm happy to have spent my youth listening to BTS, I'm a better person for myself because of it. and I'm excited for 2025 because they're doing a special 10 years of HYYH era. For them, it's a mantra, just like it is for me.

Side, but related note: Every time I hear someone in media, esp. music critics, say that BTS is too Western/commercial/Pop... whatever, I think about this song and, songs like, "Tomorrow." BTS were making amazing soul-touching music a decade ago when they were broke, but those fools ignored it.
This was amazing, thank you for putting a smile on my face! This is one of my fav bts albums - literally every song is great, no exceptions. And I’m obsessed with all these early j-hope verses (in hyyh and dark & wild specifically), he’s such a breath of fresh air whenever he comes in. So so so talented and unique, he really makes me listen closer every time.
His verse in Ma City is very political, please read doolset for more! But basically his hometown Gwangju was the start of the korean movement for democracy, on 18th of may 1980 they had an uprising, fighting against the military dictatorship in S.Korea at the time. And a few years later in 1987, south koreans obtained direct election rights. Which is why he said “518” to end his verse: May 18th.

Yo I remember when the prologue came out and everyone was losing their shit, so many army was born bc this long ass teaser.. i must say hyyh era bring back so many good yet bitter memories. It’s the era everyone started paying attention to bts either new fans or haters, I remember when the teaser photos dropped and haters started mocking and making fun of bts accusing them of using fake branded clothes they were like “they’re so poor there is no way they can afford it” “they’re so poor they can’t even hired extra actors and even have to used their managers cars for mv” i remember being so frustrated and angry reading the comments and i argued with a LOT of ppl back then but now they’re worth billions as a group and I get emotional everytime I remember… that’s why they’re so special and only those who witnessed the shit they been thru can understand
