I must say gangtok is one of the beautiful place, the third peak mountain in the world. also Like everything around it, Gangtok is abundant in natural beauty and has various natural attractions such as the Tsomgo lake, Ban jhakri falls, tashi viewpoints and more.
I had spent 3 years in Shillong (2009 to 2012)... I had a lot of great time and memories in Shillong...

Gangtok does not have special to offer... U have to go beyond gangtok to enjoy the beauty of nature... Whereas shillong is bigger than gangtok, have too many spots in &around shillong... Both have the same elevation of 5000-6000ft above sea level, only difference is gangtok is safe from greedy people whereas shillong day by day fading it's glory by cutting down hills &trees for commercial use...

I love Sikkim, it is India's one and only organic state...my favourite destination in Sikkim is The Mayfair Hotel Gangtok, but yes roads are really difficult and not that maintained, i use to go Sikkim..and i love northeast reason of our Country...now i m willing to visit Meghalaya...☺

I have visited gangtok and shillong both several times, both are different in their way. Gangtoks cold is sharp whereas shillongs cold is very sweet as it is a rainy place ❤️

I have visited both sikkim and shillong. I like sikkim for cleanliness, safety and snowfall but as far beauty of land is concern Shillong is more beautiful.

Road from Siliguri to Gangtok is very narrow and scary even drivers are reckless but both cities are great but love Shillong it offers more for foreign tourists...

it’s a fact that initially it was neglected region, but all states in north east india are predominantly tribal. there were problems because of the hilly terrain also, having said that i also admit there was negligence on part of indian government. let bygones be bygones, now there’s lot of development activity happening in entire region. 👍

Gangtok of sikkim is very very clean and very standard but shillong is very very dirty and very raw to compare in roads footpath and buildings with gangtok sikkim.
