On the James Corden story - it's a real shame that he used those particular phrases and terms to describe BTS' UN appearance and speech. I could understand it being 'unusual' if this was the first time a celebrity had been asked to give a speech in front of politicians and UN diplomats, but only just a few years ago they spoke alongside Lilly Singh for the "Love yourself" campaign. Plus, there are so many celebrity ambassadors for different aspects of the UN that give speeches and advocate for the work they do, that it's on the other side of the spectrum really. He shouldn't have generalised the ARMY fanbase so much, and also belittle and devalue the possibility that a 15-year-old girl might have aspirations to work in the UN in a high-ranking office and not just because of the possibility of meeting BTS. I don't know if he should be 'cancelled' exactly, but hopefully, he understands and acknowledges that it wasn't in the best taste.

Suga said at yesterday's vlive :
"There were many saying 'Well well wHaT aRe yOu siNgeRs gOing tO do at the UN?'
but we already knew, and came here for that very purpose. We're here to encourage the SDG (sustainable development goals), and you don't have to look at us with tinted glasses/hold us against biases.
Like it was said in our interviews, there's always been some sort of limit/scope to what is observed and addressed at the UN, but we felt a sense of pride when they told us that we were able to bring in [a wider audience]."

I mean you can argue it's a publicity stunt, and you might even be right for saying that, but that doesn't change the fact that by simply being there they attract the eyes of millions of young BTS fans who would, otherwise, not care at all about this UN meeting or anything related to it and that alone is a pretty big achievement in my eyes. This is pretty obvious and everyone knows BTS is a gold mine now, and that's why they're so hot and everyone wants to collab and work with them in all these areas that aren't just music related, they will only bring in benefits as long as you don't step on the fans' toes by saying something you shouldn't like James Corden just did.

    What I think is-
    1. when he said "unusual visitors" , he meant that it's rare and unusual to see a performance at the UN which BTS did.
    2. When he said "15 yo fans" he actually meant that usually teenagers are not involved in UN and political stuff. But BTS' influence on all age groups made it possible to have teenagers get interested in these stuff.
It's ok to be protective. But don't drag a person who is innocent. Many ARMYs have misjudged him. Also he is NOT an idiot that he would talk that way , even if he wanted to

And then there is Greta, but sure, teen girls don't care... If anything that's what annoyed me.
Making fun of girl's interests and their "vain stupidity" stopped being funny about 40 years ago if it ever was.
Also, I really don't see it a problem mostly on Twitter - it's all bullshit drama. give it a week - at worst another BTS visit to his show. He'll be fine. He is a grown-ass man, 15 year old brainless girls shouldn't be able to hurt him, right?
I think it could've been an honest "I'm a fan I can do this jokes" kinda mistake or maybe even wasn't written in by him personally. But in the end, he is still a grown man, making fun of teen girls and what they like - which is the reason for the overreaction on Twitter. You don't see these jokes with male teen soccer fans- If it was a sports player talking this kind of joke wouldn't cross anyone's mind. Even if the player was an attractive woman. Actually, in that case, she'd be the butt of the joke - Like Ema Watson was.

The worst part of it is that because of the "Cancel James Corden" thing, and the fact that he got viral for this is just reaffirming all this "crazy ARMY" agenda. If we continue to act like this whenever someone says anything slightly ironic or funny about them we are going to isolate them from the world and believe it o not they are professional musicians who need connections and friends in these industry. Believe it or not they are human, they need friends and we have witnessed the mutual love between them and James Corden, we have no rights to decide who they are friends with, we are fans.
I understand that the "15 girls" joke is getting old and exhausting at this point, I myself as a 29 year old Army just don't get how someone can still think like this anymore. But, instead of making such a fuss out of this unintended bad joke lets concentrate on more important things. We can't be that sensitive about everything, c'mon, we need to demonstrate that we are mature. If we don't like a tweet, comment or joke, and we know it is not a big deal or is unintended just pass by, don't interact with it, don't retweet, don't mention it anywhere. The boys are like that, when Billboard made that stupid article, they just stopped interacting with them, in silence and they won.

James's jokes definitely not worthing a peal of laughter, but we shouldn't cancel him just because of this. Calling him out is right, as he should acknowledge what he did was wrong, but I don't think ARMYS should ignore how James treated BTS quite nice on his show before comparing it to the others. Maybe before he made this joke, he gave you a good impression, but now since you are disappointed by his words, you could just simply do not support him like you were anymore. No need to be so exaggerated and extreme, and it's impossible for the whole world to like BTS as ARMYs do. At least for me, I don't see his words as hatred towards ARMYs, but it's true that he has to have that sense of responsibility that he has a huge audience base, and this kind of joke will just adding the stereotypes the westerns have for Kpop bands because media does play a huge role in promoting it.
Luckily, judging by the comment section, seems like more mature ARMYs are expressing their opinions here because what I saw on Twitter was basically going way too far. This fandom is really diverse, and I would probably say it is the MOST DIVERSE fandom currently in this world, so people should not mock the whole fandom because of some ARMYs that are too sensitive over this. They do not represent the whole fandom.

I agree with you. This was just my own opinion and we all definitely have different views on things. As others have explained, saying "unusual" was basically because it is really unusual to have a boyband give their speech in such special occasion/event(tho it isnt actually BTS' first time so it's quite inappropriate to say unusual). Personally, I dont find it offending. I just see it as "you are friends with someone and think you are close enough to joke around or say such things not thinking they might get offended about it. Coz you were friends 🤷🏻‍♀️". Following what he said, it isnt hate towards BTS but praises if you think about it.
And as a 28yo ARMY being called 15yo girls, this is mainly the reason why everyone thinks we are bunch of kids. Because most of us always act careless and make sudden decisions and opinions. No hate. I was just expressing my thoughts about the issue. And I hope we also consider how BTS' might feel everytime we cancel someone close to them. We are being too judgmental. He made a mistake thats given. But its sad how we just decide over 1 error. Out of the hundred things you did good, you will be judged by a single mistake.

If u try to take on a positive view on James’s words.. The use of the term “unusual” doesn’t mean weird. I think he meant BTS being in the UN is a not an everyday occurence. The joke about Army being generalized as 15 year-old girls is a stereotyped joke that is nothing new to the fandom. However, I do understand Army’s hurt since they expected more from James since he is usually seen as Army’s ally. I do think, however, that his joke has indeed missed the mark and a stereotype that we should start moving away from. Typical American humour generally used stereotypes and satire. HOWEVER, I do agree that how he thinks and treats the boys is genuine and sincere but it’s just this joke landed really wrong and is more on a reflection of the public perception of BTS.
I do disagree with the blacklist thing going on. We can't control or dictate who the guys work with. What James has shown the boys through the years should still hold weight and not be invalidated by this one lazy overused joke.

Some of the people there were not sasaengs or fan sites, just regular fans who didn’t deserve the insults and threats of doxing. But the mob spoke, and anyone else was too afraid to counter it.
In this case of Corden, it’s the interpretation of the word “unusual”. I was fine with the James Corden thing until the 15yo girl thing. Not only does it generalise and demean ARMYS but also sounds quite sexist; there are 15 yo girls that are into politics and/or dream of being the UN Secretary General. If the fanbase was stereotyped as being largely male, I doubt Corden/his writers would have made that joke

I really didn't like the 'The world leaders have no choice but to take them seriously' part, seeing that the UN actually *invited* BTS to attend, speak and perform. It was not a good setup for making a silly pun on 'army'. It's also rather sourly ironic, since he definitely wasn't taking the situation at all seriously himself. And while it is unusual for singers or artists to be invited to the UN, it can't be called unusual for BTS anymore, since it is their third time to attend.
But yes, the 15yo thing... that is what crossed the line for me. He tapped into the unfortunate stereotype of boy-band fans as young, foolish, immature, love-crazed, hysterical, etc. And while he didn't specifically say, 'All ARMYs are 15yo girls', saying 'Fifteen year old girls everywhere' implies it quite clearly. I'm not furious at him, but I am disappointed that he proved so willing to let his host persona override whatever personal respect or appreciation he may've had for the guys- and us.

It's nice to see some armies trying to convey to the rest that they need to chill. Army is currently literally the most sensitive fandom. Many of them are always on the edge, super protective over their group and ready to pounce on anyone who says something that doesn't fit with them even if it's not really very serious. To cancel James after what a wonderful host he has always been to bts is just over the top. Like Dkdk said, unusual is a relevant word. What James said was also right. Currently bts are big on popularity bcuz of armies and if the UN wanted maximum audience they knew it could be done by getting bts on board. Bcuz many armies literally hype anything & everything that bts does even if it's something normal. Many ppl think armies are the greatest fandom or something but it's just bcuz currently they are the loudest & other fandoms are not hyping their own groups that much. I'm not saying it's wrong. Just stating facts. That's how it is right now and bts seem to know it as well.
Regarding the 15 yr old girls comment, it didn't seem to me like he was saying all armies were 15 yr old girls. It's like he was speaking only about those armies who are 15 yrs olds. It's true that if bts weren't on that UN video there would hardly be any 15 yr old watching it and that's fine. I'm not saying 15 yr olds should or should not take interest in UN stuff. It's totally upto them. But this one, yes many of them did watch for bts. And that's totally fine. That was the objective of the UN anyway. Looked to me like using bts for wider audience. They wouldn't be the first. Many try to involve bts in some way or other bcuz they know they'll get the attention of millions of armies and many armies are doing just that. But to be this sensitive can be damaging to bts. One Army in this comment section said correctly. The same fans who brought bts on top are also capable of bringing them down if they keep this up. I just feel bad for bts when such things happen.

Finally someone with common sense ! I absolutely agree with you , Army might be the downfall of BTS… I‘m just sorry for them , because the way these obsessed fans behave , it‘s more like an embarrassment for the boys.BTS members are grown men, not little kids anymore who needs to be protected by their fans. Also most of the fans here don’t even know what the UN stands for, yet making a fuss… James Corden actually complimented BTS , in a sarcastic way , but he acknowledged the power of their fans , that’s why the UN had a lot of views on their yt and in fact it is not common that artists perform at the UN and being representatives for their own country as a kpop band, hence the term „UN-Usual“ I even said that myself..
about the 15 year old thing… he said 15 years old, because most likely teenagers aren‘t interested in such political events , but because of BTS , they want to be in the position of the UN general secretary… he didn’t generalize the fandom , he just meant : girls , who are 15 … what‘s wrong about being 15!?!? At the end of the day James is a comedian, an entertainer, he doesn’t need to be friends with BTS , but just being friendly with them. And people who are saying James uses them for clout is also not right … In these shows : Isn’t it a two-way thing? That’s business … BTS attends these shows for sale boost and visibility as well …. The fans here need to calm down !

I'm 52. There are plenty of older Armys but, unfortunately, the one's the world sees are the ones that make the biggest fuss because that's how things work. The Armys who are more sensible and mature, regardless of age, aren't the ones being seen because that's not news/media worthy. That's how all stereotypes develop....the actions of a few end up being used to judge a group as a whole. I know when I say a few it sounds like I mean a very small amount and the number of Armys raising a ruckus are more than just a few, but in comparison to how huge the entire fan base is they are really just a few. And it's likely most of them are young and don't have enough life experience and/or maturity to understand that the James Cordon thing is not worth getting so worked up over and that their focus should instead be on what BTS represents and the message they are trying to spread. I really don't understand the whole "cancel" thing anyway. What's the point? It's not like they actually get them cancelled and taken off the air. There is really no big impact other than their Twitter feeds being bogged down with hate and if it's people who don't like BTS I'm sure they don't care if Armys hate them. It doesn't affect how an artist's or tv host's fans feel about them....they still just move on with their lives. Maybe there have been a few exceptions where lesser known people were affected....like the poor girl who Armys thought JK was dating...the one who is a tattoo artist. And she did nothing wrong, I'm just using her as the example of people who can be affected by Armys actions. But someone like James Cordon....he's not going to lose his job and be taken off the air for a joke that ticked off Armys. And their reactions on Twitter only make his and everyone else's comments about crazy Armys look spot on. I wish they understood that they are bringing those comments and opinions on us as a whole by acting the way they do. Am I disappointed in James? Yes. But it's a stupid joke and not worth drawing more negative attention to our fandom and not worth receiving more attention than their speech at the UN. Too many Armys are acting like spoiled brats who can get their way by bullying people into doing what they want...demanding apologies, etc. A lot of people have said and done things to BTS that they should be ashamed of and apologize for, but being forced into an apology doesn't mean they are actually sorry....it just means they were harassed so much they said what Armys wanted to hear just to get them off of their backs. And when you start acting this way about every little thing your actions start to hold less weight and are seen as just over-reactions and no one takes it seriously any more. That's just my own opinion, for all it's worth, lol.

What made Corden's boo-boo glaring was that on his late night show, Trevor Noah did a joke with a similar vein (how the UN needed to get BTS just so people would pay attention to them) but it was actually funny, not cringey. If only James was a better comedian who knew when the punchline had already been delivered and when to pull back, I think his monologue wouldn't have been a mess. For example, he could have stopped after the trade tariffs part and still get his point across. There was no need to harp on ARMY.
(I don't know about you, but it I do see the humor in the UN having to get BTS just so people would pay attention to the SDGs. Even Suga & RM acknowledged that that was their role during the group's Vlive.)

I think most people would find it a little funny, that is except for the very sensitive fans and we all know there are some of those out there, the thing about this situation is that american/english comedians love these "risky" jokes and they usually land but when you have some rabid and immature fans it can cause this kind of situation, i bet the more mature fans just laughed at it and that was the end of it.

    • @kioraslate9273
      @kioraslate9273 2 ปีที่แล้ว +74

Trevor Noah's joke landing better probably has something to do with who's the butt of the joke and why. Structurally they're the same joke: BTS has a large fanbase who's so obsessed and loyal to them that they watched the unpopular and boring UNGA to see them. Corden's joke focuses on ARMY itself, drawing upon outdated and problematic characterizations of boyband fans and teenage girls in general as frivolous, thirsty, brain-dead fanatics (there's also some undertones in this stereotype that speak to a broader tendency to treat feminine sexuality and sexual agency as something to be mocked, but that's a different discussion).
Noah's joke is about the UN, and how they're so disliked that they had to get the biggest band with the biggest fanbase to save their viewership. Teenage girls and boyband fans have been mocked and hated for decades for basically no reason, and ignoring the problematic implications of it all, it's just such an old and tired joke to make. But the UN is considered by many to be controversial and problematic, so the latter joke probably feels more like punching up. At least that's how I read it.

I was slightly disappointed with James but like Danny said comedians have been making this joke for decades, on top of it I look naturally young so I’m use to being called a teen. I don’t think there was any malice behind it. I think ARMY are being slightly too sensitive with cancelling him for it. If you don’t support him anymore just call out what he did wrong respectfully and just leave him alone is what I say. I’ve been an ARMY for 4 years but yet people took it as me being a Cordon Stan when I apologised to him for the unnecessary hate. Like ARMY are taking this way to far. ARMY wonder why people don’t like us, it’s because all this fandom ever does is cancel whether it’s justified or not. I was told I’m no longer an ARMY, and that I should take the 7 out of my name because of not wanting him cancelled. Also was told because I like other groups I can’t talk about BTS because I’m a miltistan, even tho BTS is what got me into KPOP and when voting I choose them without hesitation. This is why I thought of becoming a solo ARMY just by myself and the ARMY I’ve met over the years. This fandom has become too toxic lately.

That one tweet they showed where that person was saying that they shouldn't be mocked for thier interest was really grasping at straws, for me. He never said anything to belittle teenage girls. He just said that they wished they could be the person that BTS met. @@rockinpinkcadillac True. I feel like rather than "cancelling" him, armys should've just respectfully called him out and told them that the joke wasn't funny. I don't really engage with some armys on twitter because some of them are too protective and I know that I'll get hated on if I go against the majority (which wanted to cancel James). The fact that the late late show team posted that clip on twitter clearly showed that they didn't think it would cause a huge backlash (they only post selected clips on twitter). This cancel culture is really so toxic. We should educate, not cancel. But we also have to accept that there are A LOT of armys out there and we all have different personalities, temperaments, and maturity, etc. We just have to deal with it, I guess. I bet there are other armys who also didn't want the "cancel" thing but are just too afraid to speak out.
Like Halsey said before, there's a reason why armys are so overprotective. There are a lot of people who are racist against BTS and would make fun of them and they'd be the butt of a lot of jokes. But in this situation, James Corden definitely wasn't making fun of them.
I'm not active on social media but I do support BTS and their music and their shows and albums etc so, I just lurk on twitter and like wholesome, happy, and supportive tweets :D There are a lot of really wholesome and positive armys out there! :))

As a 63 year old ARMY since 2017 who has been lucky enough to see them 3 times, I don’t appreciate the cheap joke of James Cordon. He knows a lot about ARMY and chose to be dismissive of BTS and their fans. He could have told the same joke but replace “15 year old girls” with 60 year old women. That’s pretty funny. Instead of putting down 15 year old girls for their enthusiasm for BTS, every girl in the universe should be encouraged to look to BTS for positive characteristics that they require in a future partner. I personally feel that ARMY's are at times over sensitive with BTS related content, and this leads to a prevalent 'cancel culture' in the fandom. Personally, I feel what James said was kind of taken out of context. I believe he meant it in a normal way because it was indeed 'unusual' to have BTS, a musical group at the UN. Now we ARMYs know that BTS is more than just a musical group but to an outsider they are just their music. And his statement about the 15 year old girls was actually right on because deny it or not, BTS does have a large following of teenage girls (alongwith ARMYs of all age groups) and these young ARMYs watched the UN assembly out of their own will, which is a great feat, who else could have convinced them to participate in such an event? That's why I feel that people are misunderstanding the whole James Cordon statement whereas in reality it's not really that deep.
Edit: Damn y'all wilding in the comments. I said what I said. I kind of agree now that how the age group joke could have rubbed people the wrong way but I still believe that people should learn to take certain things as a joke. Yes BTS had a tough past so ARMYs are overprotective but y'know it's good to let things slide at times. You all only making a fool out of the fandom for reacting over such lame jokes. I mean these show hosts make derogatory and stereotyping jokes about famous people all the time, does it make it right? NO. But even then, if you keep throwing rocks at every dog you find then you'll soon run out of any rocks to throw at them. So stop treating BTS as kids and blowing everything negative related to them out of proportion or soon PEOPLE WILL STOP ASSOCIATING THEMSELVES WITH BTS.

That's something a talk show host is not supposed to be. If research was done he would know that they were there not as artists but SDG representatives, they were diplomats. And the '15 year old girls' was misogynistic and condescending. Added to that 50% of the fandom is above the age of 20. On top of all that as BTS was there as apart of the SDG, one of the goals is to close the gender gap by James undermining young girls he is directly going against what BTS went to the UN for.

That moment where ARMYs prove Corden right by behaving like immature 3 year olds. Dear human race, if you’re offended, be offended. Explain why if you want to. But do not act like you are owed an apology because you are offended if you cannot even have the slightest bit of empathy or common sense to understand someone else’s intentions. It is unusual for a group to be named diplomats and to perform a musical number in the middle of the UN. Like, it’s unusual that’s why it’s incredible. If it was normal then it wouldn’t be remarkable or noteworthy. Stop misunderstanding the English language as an excuse to be offended. Also, the majority of BTS fans are girls and young women. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing to be ashamed of. So let’s move on. (Like, for real, is he meant to put a disclaimer ‘not every fan is a 15 year old girl, but here comes the joke’? Do fans feel ashamed that the majority of fans are girls and young women so they assume Corden is being misogynistic because deep-down they’ve internalised it and are projecting?) Danny’s right. I mean I like BTS’ music and I admire them as people but if Corden is forced to apologise over such a nothing situation and ARMYs let a joke they don’t like overshadow the achievement of BTS right now, then I have to say respect for them as a fandom (which is already tenuous) disappears and I know most of them are cool normal people. Anyone outside of kpop and BTS will be judging hard cause it’s stupid. Stuff like this is a huge part of the reason kpop is not taken seriously in a lot of circles. Please can fans start to be a bit more measured and reasonable. Please.
Edit: okay some people are pissed so I’m gonna address it.
    1. It wasn’t misogynistic what Corden said. There is a culture in our society which looks down upon anything closely associated with female identity and spaces. It encourages girls, teen girls in particular, to grow up in a culture of shame. It’s disgusting. Corden did not make a joke out of that. It’s inaccurate to say that his joke about teen girls envying the Secretary General, an old man (tbh), is about shaming BTS fans or girls/women. It’s a joke about how populist fan culture has collided with UN politics. It’s satire about the disconnect between young people and their culture and old people in power. The ARMY joke is a similar subject too. The power of fandom with wordplay about global military force. The joke about 15 year old female fans is bad for two reasons. 1. It is unfunny. 2. It has an unclear subject/target making it so open to interpretation that the meaning itself gets lost in translation to the audience. It is not because it is misogynistic. That is because he does not display a superior attitude or in tone or words imply any patronising or disrespectful stance towards BTS or the fans. The joke is about the gap between the culture of the two groups and bridging it because of BTS (which even if you’re a fan you must admit looks unlikely to people who are not into BTS). Interpreting it as misogynistic is projecting. The fact we live in this unfortunate patriarchal and often outright misogynistic culture does not mean any suggestion of something being predominantly enjoyed by girls and young women is said with the intention of discrediting it. Hope that makes sense.
    2. I wanna explain about the culture of getting offended over nothing and expecting people who are strangers to accommodate you rather than managing your own emotions. When people grow into mature humans (of course the age at which this happens varies enormously) they learn to manage their own emotions and take responsibility for them. For example, I have struggled with a lot of mental health issues including long-term eating disorders. I am very triggered when I hear someone (especially men) talk about women’s bodies in an objectifying way. Like, I get for real livid. It feels very personal and dredges up a lot of personal shit for me. But if they are a stranger then I tend to just take a moment to deal with it myself. There are members of Super Junior (I like their music so have heard them say this on radio/interviews/variety) who have said things to this effect that make me dislike their attitude. But so? Do they need to care how I, a random British woman they do not know, feels about some dumb thing they’ve said? No. They don’t. That would be entitled of me. It would be an immature display of failing to keep my emotions in check for my own well-being and blaming others instead of dealing with it myself. Like. A. Child. I understand that for fans they can feel like their world is under attack when people (according to their perspective) have insulted the idol or fandom in question. But it’s an irrational response. And I have seen such extreme responses from fans trying to defend their idol and fandoms that it becomes more accurate to call them cruel rather than the person who said whatever. Fans frequently assume the worst in situations like this. The lack of empathy or understanding can be genuinely worrying. Like a hate comment from an ARMY ‘defending’ BTS is not better than a hater writing one about BTS. Just saying.
    3. This has overshadowed BTS’ achievement. So what if Corden didn’t talk about the content of the speech or the fact that BTS are diplomats now? Like, is he running a lecture for students studying the list of achievements of BTS? No. He’s running a talk show where he is perfectly within his right to say what he likes and does not need to be dictated a script by ARMYs desperate to watch content praising BTS. He mentioned another remarkable achievement made some jokes (funny or not) and then moved on. That’s all he did. For goodness sake. BTS fans are now yelling louder about a dumb joke than the content of the speech. If fans cared enough awareness could be getting raised even further outside the fandom. But no, the main message is another person mentioned BTS, the fans didn’t like the joke and now that person is a baddy or whatever. Sorry to use Danny and David here in my petty little point but you’ll notice they played the whole clip of Corden and discussed some tweets and offered their opinions. But the footage was without sound for the speech and they acknowledged it happened (happily and proudly) without going into more detail. Implied priorities. Danny and David pick content that is popular and has a lot of attention, especially on social media. Personally I’ve seen far more coverage of Corden’s joke and ARMYs outrage than the speech and raising awareness. Thus, ARMYs overshadowing BTS’ work and achievement and the important messages with petty Twitter bs.
Anyway, hope you’re having a lovely day and my essay of a comment didn’t give you an aneurism. ;)

Fans need to chill. Corden didn’t lie or say anything worth all this mess, people are inferring things and getting pissed from that. Not his problem, late night guys aren’t funny and he’s no exception, but that doesn’t make it ok to react the way too many alleged ARMYs have. You can give constructive criticism without being nasty and if you’re actually an ARMY, that’s how you’ll do it (if you feel so aggrieved you HAVE to say something🙄).
The guys don’t care (at least not at this point), so we shouldn’t either.

You do realize that if we let things like these slide they will continue to happen and continue to get worse? James has worked with them multiple times and knows the boys and the fandom for him to make comments like these are just absurd. Majority of the fandom are above the ages of 20 (female, male and nonbinary) that come from around the world and to continue pushing this negative narrative of 15 yo teenages is just dumb. What is worse is the fact that he also said that "the world leaders have no other choice but to take bts seriously" implying that they view bts as a joke and that people have to take them seriously simply bcs they have a big fanbase and not bcs they are actually genuine people. We still don't know what the boys think about the situation bcs they don't make things public and the fact that they haven't attended the late late show since last year speaks volumes.

About the thing with James Corden... It's just that the term "boy band" has so many negative connotations and stereotypes attached to it, so that any group deemed as a "boy band" (along with their fans) is never really taken seriously and respected even when they do really meaningful things that have a huge positive impact. So it's just disappointing when people reproduce these stereotypes and preconceptions and make fun of them, especially in the case of BTS - the members and army have done so many positive things but we're still just stereotyped as crazy 15 year old girls, even though we're so diverse. Btw there is absolutely nothing wrong with being a 15 year old girl that is crazy about BTS, always portraying that as something negative is also a problem.
The thing is... he had the chance to talk about how amazing it is that BTS were at the UNGA and how their presence would make the youth more interested in the UN and politics and how proud he was of the boys. But instead he chose to make prejudiced, unfunny "jokes".
But all in all, I don't think it was THAT bad, just unfunny and uncalled for... and a missed opportunity. I wouldn't cancel him, that's going too far.

Welcome to being super famous and being at the top. EVERY celebrity and famous person will get these type of comments from comedians like James Cordon. Army want BTS to be recognised and applauded for everything they have achieved, but it will come with criticism and sometimes that means people will comment on what they have done.

He laughed about young girls implying that they don't dream big but only think about stupid things if it wasn't for a boy group. This is chauvinism.
Then bts are known to have a fandom with 35% of underage people, so he was excluding the majority of the fandom bc of the stereotypes that boy groups are followed only by young girls
Then he said he is a fan of bts but doesn't know it's not unusual for bts going to the UN since it's the 3rd time. And again it was implied that is odd that a boy group went there. Don't pretend to be a fan if you're not, there's nothing wrong about not being a bts fan. Why did he have to pretend?

Y'all really should hear him again...ok so "unusual" ain't bad. It's just another word for- different. He did not say that all the fans are 15, infact, he said, "15 year old girls everywhere wants to be..." Age dosent matter to me, but the "girl" did,try not to be a sexist, Corden. Guys who are 15 can be armies too. Nonetheless, He is a comedian, an entertainer, it's his job. He also said he loved the performance right after it was showed. Ok I admit it, his tone was mocking but I think we just misunderstood the whole situation. But posting death threats in one of his latest posts abt one of his dead family member is a holy thing to do??? Armies, that really went overboard. Pls think- James Corden is one of the nicest host to BTS, so stop spreading hate. Y'all really need to think, this IS the industry. Relationships may or may not be real. Sometimes they pretend.
Now for the clout thing, James is using BTS for clout, so be it(so is every other shows/hosts, u think bighit dosent know that?). BTS is using the show to promote their albums in America. It's a win-win situation for them. This is the INDUSTRY. And that's how it works there
I m not a hater, nor a Corden supporter. I have been a hard core army 3 years-😊. But I don't want my army sisters and brothers out there spreading hate, bts taught us to love, not to hate..
Ps. I don't usually talk these things out loud, but I do think army's are overreacting. Stop making look army's bad, pls. If ARMYS keep on cancelling celebs, they themselves would be the downfall of BTS. Don't forget this..
Also, whoever you are, I love u💜
Edit: Come to think of it, he may also be getting back at BTS haters, tho. Like, haters say BTS has 15 year old girls as fans and he may be mocking the haters. Idk I don't think we should spread any more negativity. He got what he deserved for his tone. He might be regretting bcz of the drop of rating. So spread positive energy armies~

And you know, the worst part of it is that because of the "Cancel James Corden" thing, and the fact that he got viral for this is just reaffirming all this "crazy ARMY" agenda.
ARMYs who sent hate to James might not feel bad at all for doing so, but I can guarantee (from all the gp comments I've seen on James' yt channel) that his regular viewers (including ME) have only grown in resentment towards ARMYs and, by proxy, towards BTS. Yep, you achieved it. BTS is now less popular. Congrats!

I think James Corden assumed he could get away with that joke because he probably thinks Army only watches his show if BTS is there appearing on his show. He thought he was safe lol.

You would think that having been able to interact with BTS for years, James Corden would know their impact. Didnt army even made donations to a charity because of Corden? This is why army are disappointed/mad.

Ikr. I get that it's a joke, but I figured he should know better than to make jokes like that.
Come to think of it, I think BTS and Corden's relationship might have gone south seeing they didn't promote butter with him. Seemed fishy

I'm army , did not cancel James cordon . His joke was hilarious.. I understood the humour , I do however wish he spent some time explaining the significance of bts presence at the UN , going beyond stating that world leaders need bts cause their army is huge. He could have ,mentioned that South Korea's president elected bts as presidential special envoys , what it means etc .. why the UN requested bts presence etc.. if he spent a 1 minute on explaining bts role etc then the joke would have been hilarious but his joke tanked because his joke downplayed bts achievement ... UNUSUAL VISITORS MAKES SENSE coz bts was the only group that was not either world leader or some boring high position in the UN .. so unusual definitely.. so young armys create and post memes about how they wish they were the wine bottle jk licked, how they want to be the sushi that jin eats , army is always posting memes about wanting to be the fly on the wall or the make up artist or hair stylists or the ones wiping bts sweat from their faces in between shows etc . Armys are the ones always posting how they wish they were ........ , it's definitely the teens creating the memes or posting the tweet etc. James cordon joke about 15 year old girls wanting to be the old white general assembly secretary is hilarious coz the teens do not generally want to be an old white Baldish old man but to be close to bts , hell yes! The mistake he made was the age group and gender cause in reality , every bts army would want to see bts up close and if it means being the old man , hell yeah . It's not just the teens , any loyal fan . I know that specifically mentioning teen girls Gives the joke it's weight coz young girls have a habit of saying ewwww gross for old white bald boring men but he should have known that there are armys that are super sensitive and do not break down the content before moaning . I get the joke , it's hilarious but it's not many that will get it , I do , immediately i understood the humor but also understand why so many are bitching.. It's weird when the teen girls are the ones bitching lol it should be the guys and the older army woman. So I made sure I bitched aswell and I hope male armys did the same , just to remind James that we are not 15 year old girls , we grown ass human beings who definitely wish were the UN secretary or any one of those wrinkled people close to bts at the U N.. oops not just male and female , people of all gender etc , my apologies for male and female reference , I'm still getting use to gender being more than just male and female.. , I hope armys that are not just teen girls , bitch online , let James know he needs some young , gender fluid writers cause his writers suck ..

you've given a well thought out response to this and I appreciate it. I also agree with what you said but would also like to add that another aspect of the 'unusual' guests could also be because BTS were performing a pop song and I'm sure it's very unusual to have Korean singers performing at the UN and dancing in and around the UN building. I do wish that some of ARMY would stop and take a minute before reacting to a lot of harmless things that go on regarding BTS. Unfortunately some ARMY are too quick to pounce and that can give all ARMY a bad reputation and could also be bad for BTS as some TV shows, etc. might not want to include BTS in their shows for fear of ARMY backlash. I'm an almost 56 year old female ARMY from Melbourne Australia

Personally, I think Cordens comments are waaaaay blown out of proportion. It's a joke. Just a joke - perhaps not a good joke. But no need to spew sooo much hate.
For being "ARMY" all the hate towards Corden is very unlike what BTS stands for..love, understanding, and positivity. I honestly don't think Corden meant any ill will towards the Fandom.

I don’t care about his petty remarks but stereotypes our fandom by saying “15 years old girl” that’s what goes wrong.

at least to me the "15 years old girl" comment wasnt actually generalizing the fandom but just saying that the young fans in the fandom would have wanted to be there, which is true.

As a 57 year old Army who has been with BTS since January 2014, I find what he said very offensive. BTS Army is many ages, races, genders, colors, orientations etc... We are humans on planet Earth living in the BTS Universe!

I think James doesn't need to apologise, maybe his 15yo girl joke was like a dad joke but not offensive. I am sure many of the BTS fans would have liked to be UN Secretary-General Guitterez who probably met them etc. The army joke was separate and not linked referring to how the UN has a large peace keeping force so it made sense BTS was there since the also had an 'Army' . I think this a lost in translation moment.

nah man, it is unusual for a boy group to turn up at the UN. Although, credit to BTS, they seem like solid dudes.

    • @pennybleta9721

Who cares about boy group though it is BTS we are talking about. And anyone who knows them knows that it is not unusual for them. In fact it's their 3rd time there. Although I understand that western people think that BTS are anything remotely close to any western boy band which is completely false but it stems from ignorance.
