I'm a 24 year old bedroom player. Been playing for a little over 2 years now. I started on cheap cliche beginner guitars like a Dean Vendetta, a $250 Epi Les Paul, etc. When I got serious I decided to go with a PRS. And keep in mind, I bought the absolute CHEAPEST guitar they make, an SE Standard 24 at $500. That was about a year and a half ago and It ended up being my sole electric guitar after selling the rest. It's just amazing in every aspect. I just bought my second PRS, the SE Mira. And same thing, it's just amazing right out of the box. To me, PRS is more than a guitar. It's a feeling. You FEEL them whenever you play them. For any beginner that wants to get serious and get a QUALITY guitar, go with PRS' SE line. You will not be disappointed.

The fret boards are good, but since your still very young i won't come down on you too hard 😂 they have a tone that can sound like Gibson but not quite a strat, not enough twang for serious fender players, and blues ppl, which is a lot of guitarist. The playability of a prs will spoil you when you switch, its like going from 8s to 11s if you play other forms of music that are not distorted.

7:05 I'm sure Paul cares about his employees, but beyond that, he is a charismatic (if sometimes abrasive) leader who surely inspires his team. Also, he has managed to keep a "boutique-aura" for his brand, despite growing the business in a big way. He is not unlike Steve Jobs, in some respects.

PRS is truly a company that cares about its people and even during the pandemic they have released a bunch of videos of the employees playing and you can see even throughout the company they are people who love what they do and where they do it... Even those who purchase a PRS in talking to them they feel like they have bought more than a guitar... I agree with the comment that PRS is like the Apple Inc. of guitars as Paul is as referred to as the mad scientist but, I see it as someone who want to make a next level instrument and who follows his passions to make things better not only in the music industry but, in all his ventures... His passion and caring come through not only when he is in the spotlight but, all the people who are out there who speak about PRS. The standards of all their instruments from the top tier to the entry level has lots of hands touching the guitars and which as many say more hands and more eyes on the product allow for more quality control... A brand which has earned its place in the market through quality, caring, passion, and pride... I had my first experience playing PRS guitars a few weeks ago at GC and will be saving to get one and it is funny how the feel of the instrument is so different than others and as has happened to us all we go in looking at something and find something different I am now looking toward the Mira as I feel like I bonded with that but, want to give the 22 a shot as well before I make a purchase... The Custom 24 SE is what I went to look at and tried what they had in stock... Amazing how that work with guitars...

I spoke with a PRS employee a year or two ago who does some of their QC. He raved about the standards Paul expects on their guitars and how well the employees truly get treated. In our discussion I revealed how much of a Santana fan I am and he assured me their SE model is no slouch compared to their $5000 Santana model. I would never expect to hear that from a Gibson employee, nor would I ever believe it either. This was at a Cancer Charity event in Delaware and we probably traded stories for about 2 hours lol. I haven't gotten the Santana SE yet but it IS on my list, I did manage to pick up an older SE245 though and have been blown away at it's quality and sound!

I have 20 electric guitars, 80% of them are, high end , custom shop, and boutique guitars. I love all my guitars, they each have a soul of their own. However 4 of them are PRS guitars, and while they all inspire me to play to their strengths I find that the PRS guitars have the power to change me when I play them. Just something magical about the freedom to play that a PRS allows you to have. On a personal note, I’ve seen several of your video’s before and enjoyed them all, but this one is by far the best one yet.

I'm new to owning a prs se, been playing for years and very particular in how I like a guitar to play. My experience is that the Prs Se comes set up with a level of care that you would only expect on very very high end guitars. Knowing you can trust them with £500 ish to give you that level of excellence makes trusting them with thousands of pounds of your money a no brainer. I'm completely sold on this brand now.

I also prefer the Custom 22 over the Custom 24. Interesting question regarding whether or not Paul designed some of these things due to demand. If I had to guess, a lot of these guys who have been in the business for decades (John Suhr, Grover Jackson, Roger Sadowsky, Paul Reed Smith etc) seem like they have always had a drive to improve upon things they didn’t like about existing designs while retaining the things that they felt worked.

I waited a long time to upgrade from my first guitar(an acoustic) to my first electric. Had my eyes set on an s2 vela from the first time I felt it in my hands. And was it worth wait? 1000000% yes it was. It's one of their simpler models and yet every last detail: from the finish, to the carve of the body, to the stability of the tuners and the bridge, to the feel of the neck (I know this one is all preference but still), to the balance between the two very totally different pickups. Is nothing short of perfect. It's crazy how big of an impact the little details make when they're made precisely as they need to be. In my experience it's never too much or too little with prs guitars. First thing that comes to my mind is the carve on the body, it gives the guitar an acoustic almost airy resonant sound even when unplugged. I firmly believe that if that carve where to be even slightly adjusted in either direction the vela would lose that trait that I find to make it so special. Having now owned it for a little over a year, I can't give the guitar justice when describing just how much inspiration it's given my playing. I really do feel like it's an underlooked model of theirs because it's doesn't have all the bells and whistles such as a custom 24 which like you said is their flagship. It's a couple slabs of wood along with some pickups and wiring. It's the attention to detail that makes it unique. It's almost like everything the fender telecaster should be in theory but exponentially better designed. No thrills, just world class design, world class craftsmanship, and the upmost respect for the craft coming together to make something that could and probably should be ordinary, into nothing short of extraordinary. If you couldn't tell my vela holds a special place in my heart and I can't wait until the day I can add another prs to the family!

I would like to add that while I don't own a silver sky, I do own a 594 and a DC3. Although they are gibson/fender-esque respectively, they are both entirely their own thing at the same time. They don't replace my gibsons and fenders, they simply offer a similar aesthetic but sonically different alternative to them.

I got the CE 24 and can’t wait or it to get here Friday. After watching this I hope I didn’t make a big mistake on getting the 24 and not a 22. However the CE doesn’t come in a 22 fret anymore. Is there that much difference that I won’t be happy in you opinion. I love your mannerisms and your explanations on all your videos. I’m just an old guy fixing to retire after 40 years at the same job. Crazy I know but I’ll have the time now to start to learn how to play better than just a couple of songs on a cheep hard to play acoustic. I touched many a new guitar over the last year trying to decide Fender Gibson but always coming back to the PRS CE. Felt and sounded best to me. I sure hope I made the right decision. Keep your videos coming please. I wish you had a beginner video would be fantastic! But I know that would probably take to much of your time. Like I said just getting started here but I can tell you know your stuff and are very respectable and I believe others could learn well from you!
    Thank you sir!
    Respectfully!
    Chris

Great video, I loved the whole topic
on PRS , I was a PRS basher for a long time, it was jealousy, they were beautiful and expensive, out of my league like a beautiful woman I couldn’t have, so I became a hater, and then I played an SE , then a CE and final ya custom 24, and watched may interviews with Paul and realized how special the guitars and the company were, and I finally came out of the closet , I haven’t purchased one yet I’m looking, money is still tight , but I may just sell a few guitars to have one PRS , I’m thinking whale blue fade or orange tiger thanks Tone K

I think that the Paul's goal is to make a great guitar, to make the player confortable so he/she can get the most out of the instrument, the 594 and Silver Sky are two great examples of that achievement, alongside the custom 24, the DGT, CE24 and all the others

I've been coveting a PRS Guitar for more than ten years, but for whatever reason I never bought one. That changed this week. My birthday was last week and I treated myself to a SE Standard 24, which is arriving from UPS this morning. I am so excited to get this bad boy in my hands I feel like a kid on Christmas morning. It's perfect that it's Thanksgiving weekend too... I'll have LOTS of time to just love all over it. I thought long and hard over the decision to go 24 or 22 frets, and ultimately I went 24 simply because I've never owned a 24 fret guitar, but I've had MANY experiences jamming when I wished I had just a few more notes... now I will have those notes. PRS makes fantastically consistent instruments. I've never picked up a PRS and been disappointed. Invariably, I come away impressed and somewhat in awe. I'm so happy to be part of the PRS family and plan to do my own video next week about my experience buying a USED PRS. Excellent video. Liked and subbed. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for your opinion. Interesting take on PRS's company culture! My local music store presented me with two options for versatility. A PRS Custom SE 24 and a Schecter C6 FR Pro. My spotify playlist would suggest to me to head over to Schecter (love the satin finish on the neck - Not so sure that I want a Floyd Rose bridge) and I'm concerned that whenever I get into a bluesy type of mood that I won't be able to sound anything decent with those driven pickups. Thoughts on my dilema?

Give it a year and you’ll be seeing your core guitars climbing. We are going to witness the biggest price increase in lower range Asian made guitars that we have ever seen. This along with prices of new instruments going up in general are going to make high end used guitars become in demand. We have been experiencing a decade slump due to all the low cost Asian guitars that kept getting higher and higher in quality. Now with the “reset” all these foreign products are going to be increasing sharply in price. Overall a bad thing, but probably good for those of us with guitars made of “real” and quality exotic woods that we only paid a few grand.
I bet I will (if I wanted to) be able to sell my 10 Top Flame maple with quality mahogany body, solid rosewood neck with hard, hard super black ebony fretboard CU24 for the $3900 I paid and probably more as people realize getting real old growth exotic wood is impossible or going to cost closer to twice that or more.

@@AudioAtmos I paid $3000 for mine in 2001 I think. It’s not a 10 top but it’s a beautiful top. It’s a mahogany body with a mahogany neck and Ebony fretboard And the bird inlays. It has a really pretty book matched flame maple top. Crimson Sunburst. I don’t know what it’s worth now but I’m 62 years old working towards retirement. I’ll never sell it. My son will end up inheriting this one.

Sounds beautiful! There a lot of really great non 10 tops from that time period. I have a 2001 McCarty, also. I bet your ebony board is nice. We won’t be seeing much hard fully black ebony anymore. They say there’s no difference, but I think there’s something about the middle wood all black ebony. I’m 56 and I won’t be selling either. That McCarty was the most expensive guitar too at that point and really the first guitar besides my 1981 Ibanez AR50. Which was actually a really nice guitar and only $500 in 1981.

Hey brother. Ok. I have a les paul, love it, I reworked the frets myself, lowered the action. Other than that it’s stock, plays great, sounds like a les paul should. I use in my recordings when I have to have that Les Paul grit. I also have a fender jag body HSS... I love that guitar also when I have to have that single coil ring. But my other guitar that I use most of the time as a custom 24. SE. Couldn’t afford the flag ship either. But I got a Tell you, The guitar plays like butter, didnt need to touch a thing on it perfectly set up, and with the coil splits, I can get great single coil tone, the 1585 pickups are spectacular. I can damn near get that Les Paul crunch when I need it, my fender ring when I need it, but most of all it has that glorious Paul Reed Smith play ability and sound and it is my go to in any live situation most times. I love that guitar. Do I want to silver sky sure. But I love my SE.

I love PRS because Paul himself is a mad scientist and their guitars just get better and better with each tweak that they do. Gibson has built a legend based on a 5 year window in the late 50’s in which they made the best guitars ever. The LP’s after that paled in comparison for whatever reason. I’d rather buy a new custom 24 than an older one because they’ve made changes for the better, especially their pickups and finishes.

My past two releases on my channel (May 2020 and, prior, May 2019) feature two PRS employee guitars, a PRS Santana MD and, prior year's performance release, a PRS Swamp Ash. On average, the two releases are a tad under an hour of content each, starting with clean tones and progressing to hard / heavy to not quite metal tones. I consider these releases to be tone reports on the respective guitars (note that the PRS Santana MD features an on-board/on-guitar circuitry that takes two 9 volt batteries - straight from the Maryland factory that way).
My next release I am working on (slated for 2021) features PRS SE EG guitars (2000's era guitars from Korea) and a 22-fret SE standard in cherry satin finish (I really like these satin finishes). The SE guitars are great platforms for modification (these SEs are also employee guitars).
I do like the 25-inch scale length over 24.x (company A) and 25.x (company B), which is a better balance between spacing down by the nut to the spacing up by the pickups.

As a new player, I looked seriously at the Laguna, Mexican Fender, Epiphone Les Paul, Schechter, and Ibenez Art. But I could not get my mind off of the PRS Se. It just felt more complete, more well built and no compromise that I could feel as a newbie. Despite the slight extra cost, when it came time to pull the trigger I chose the very slightly used PRS SE Tremonti hardtail. I have never regretted it.
    Rock On Tone King!

I absolutely LOVE PRS guitars. While I've never owned a Core I will definitely get a Core one day. But I must say, the SE Custom I have is simply wonderful. It is far superior to anything Gibson or Fender currently offer at ANY price. It plays, sounds and looks incredible. I've been a fan of PRS guitars since I first played one at a shop in Los Angeles in 1987. I simply could not believe the quality of this guitar. I never played, looked upon, or heard a guitar that sounded so amazing right out of the box. The SE I own really brings me back to that magical moment when I first played a PRS three thirty-four years ago every time I pick it up. My next guitar will also be a PRS SE model, the Mira. Can't wait to add it to my guitarsenal. Rock on.

Very very well said. I have a PRS Custom 24 SE variant and freakin love it. For the money paid for it for sure is punching well above it’s weight in the price range from other said brands. I thought first thing I would have to do is change the pickups straight away like if I had bought a Squier or an Epiphone or something like that. In the other brands mentioned replacing pickups would definitely be the first thing I would do as well as the potentiometers simply because they mostly all sound weak or shitty from the factory. That SE PRS gives me exactly what I need from it’s pickups and the non locking bar even stays in tune. And this makes me all the more likely to start saving up for one of the Flagship models simply because of my experience with their budget line of instruments. Just my truth.

I went full 180 on PRS precisely because of how they treat people I like and respect like you.
I always saw them as a gaudy overpriced guitar, but was encouraged to try them because of how Paul has treated some of my favorite content creators.
After giving a core a shot, I am convinced they're the only guitar I would spend over $3k on.

    • @georgeargon5113
      @georgeargon5113 ปีที่แล้ว

Gaudy and overpriced is a questionable assessment at the introductory level. Granted, their private stock and library collection pieces are beyond the reach of most musicians, but PRS offers musicians value-driven alternatives that Gibson does not, or will not, provide. And that includes its Epiphone line. (Pickup an Epiphone and examine the quality difference from any off-the-shelf PRS. Rather ironic, considering that Epiphone is also made overseas.)
