What a handsome man and still is in this interview. I use to him in Fulham in 1970s. I was 18 at the time. I would loved talk to him but I was to shy. Everyone, the writers included, moved on after what ever happened to the likely lads. James Bolam did well for himself. Rodney implied that Bolam stopped the BBC from repeating the series. Actors don't have to give permission for repeats.
Rodney Bewes found work hard to come by after the lads series finished similar to Bob Grant from on the buses only difference was there was no fallout with any of Grants actors.
True, apart from David Jason who really didn't like Bob Grant when he worked with him, but it is true that the On the Buses cast never fell out with him.

Ian LaFrenais once said that Bewes would have been happy playing Bob forever, whereas Bolam had to be persuaded to do 'Whatever Happened" as he was petrified of being typecast and wanted to move on to other roles. That's probably a part of the disagreement.
He didn't ruin his career Bolam moved on and became very successful in many series till this day, there's always two sides to a story and Bolam as never come out and critisiced Bewes in public, its a shame because they complimented one another superbly in what for me was Britain's best ever sitcom.
