UM, w/Hurricane force winds in a Blizzard, you can be sure they’re all over the place, for miles. Actually, you can see large chunks of it in the water at 1:10 & 1:22. The boards, however, I’m sure are long gone. This isn’t the first time the Boardwalk has been attacked by major storms. It will be rebuilt...again. You must not live near the coast.
@@TheMissPoovey A tornado usually only covers the swath of land it is traveling over & can be very brief. Hurricanes & Blizzards can go on for hours & cover hundreds of miles at the same time. I’ve never experienced a Blizzard w/such high winds for so many hours & gusts over hurricane force. This could have been a first for the Cape, where the 2 combined. The large pieces of the Boardwalk seen in the water are extremely heavy & it’s pretty impressive to see they were carried even that far away. The boards that people walked across, I’m sure, we’re splinted &/or scattered for miles in the wind, being they don’t have much weight to them. So once separated from the base, they were like feathers for such powerful winds. You could easily spend an hour slowly walking along, reading all the names & tributes people had engraved on each board. From memorials to pets & people, to tributes, & proposals w/dates, Weddings, Anniversaries & public proclamations of love & anything else one could think of (non vulgar) to have engraved, incl little images. There’s a small one in a little park/walking area that has the Twin Towers of 9/11 that takes up several boards. Glad that is inland & safe. The boards are pretty reasonable at $100 ea, last I knew. I’m sure many ppl will want to get them done to help pay for the rebuilding. The original Boardwalk was built there in 1875. So, it’s grown & gotten more durable over time. The last area to be reinforced & done over, was the bridge like area, which remains in good shape. At high tide, it’s very popular for kids & teens to jump off. There’s built in ladders for ppl who do, to climb back up. They will get the framework going indoors somewhere & bring it over after the weather clears up some, so it will be rebuilt in time for the Summer season. Another Boardwalk in Yarmouthport was wrecked prior to Thanksgiving by a bad storm & was fixed by the end of the yr. The damage wasn’t as bad, but we were still surprised at how fast they got it up & in use again. We thought they’d wait till March before replacing the damaged areas. So this will get priority treatment, too. I only experienced 1 Tornado here a couple yrs ago...went over the house & touched down less than 1/4 mile away. It was much more terrifying than any hurricane or blizzard, as far as I’m concerned. Had a few times since we had to go to the basement, but it passed w/o incident...Thank God! We had 3 Tornadoes that day....Highly unusual for the Cape. No thanks! I could never live in, or near, Tornado Alley. Even hurricanes & blizzards aren’t an annual thing here. But certainly more than tornadoes.
Not odd considering the major Blizzard w/hurricane force winds for hours. It’s not the first time it’s been ravaged. It will be rebuilt in time for Summer. :) Actually, you can see large chunks of it in the water at 1:10 & 1:22. The boards, however, I’m sure are long gone. The ‘pieces’ of boards, are strewn over miles, I’m sure.
This is heartbreaking.💔 One of my favorite places on the Cape. One could spend hours reading all the boards, taking in God’s awesome beauty, fabulous sunsets & night sky! The smaller one at the Bass Hole was wrecked last big storm & they have it open again already. This too, will be rebuilt & ready for the Summer season. Probably better. As it has been each time it’s been torn up by storms, since the 1800’s. Sandwich is known for getting brutalized by big storms. I’m sure the donations will flow in & boards will be bought up quickly.
The Cape is one of the prettiest places in the country. I’ve lived on both sides of it & travelled all in between. Nothing anywhere like New England. :)

That boardwalk got cleaned out. Like spotless cleaned.
Thank you for posting this!
Where are the pieces? Seems rather tidy somehow.
scattered all over the marshland and drawn out to sea by the tide.

No, I’m not near a coast and have no experience. Kinda why I asked, 😆
So it’s similar to tornado damage, in that the debris can be near or very far.

I love the drone footage
We have the same type of damage, post hurricane, minus the ice and snow

I've lived on both coasts but have never seen a landscape like that, yet.
Love estuaries

I help to maintain a boardwalk in a public park, so I sympathize with the guys who will have to repair this mess.

Poor Cape Cod. Between CoVid and multiple storms its really been taking a beating.
But surviving.

time to close down the boardwalk and retreat from the oceans...money for this project will be better spent to build Solar Farm with Battery storage.
When nature has remodeled or demolished perhaps man should take note and choose NOT to rebuild...
Man builds and nature can change the whole landscape sometimes it better to leave it alone....
okay. go live outdoors, with no roof, electricity, heat or running water and enjoy the world, you desire...

It’s been rebuilt after many storms.
It will be ready for the Summer. 👍
