  • On my first outing after my latest operation we went to Newton Abbot to do a little charity shop shopping.
    I think I did OK.
For those that don’t know Newton Abbot is a few miles from Torquay in Devon.
At the end of the video I try on all the outfits I got.
How do you think I did?
    Many thanks for watching.

You, my dear, are a fashion statement ! That green and blue skirt is gorgeous. I also totally enjoy the fashion show at the end.. I'm shocked at how many shops you have..💜

Yes most English towns have a few charity shops, as the economy drops more and more charity shops spring up, they are also many different ones as they support different charities. My challenge is to make good outfits out of what I find, being a bigger lady some times there are not so many choices.

Well done for what you said about Charity shops keeping their prices low as they get the donations for free and it helps people on a low income. I’ve been saying this for ages and I’m glad that someone else thinks so too.

Your deffinately not alone. And it is getting worse they say they want us to recycle, but make it hard to afford.

Phwoar! Love the first skirt, the green & purple one. Third outfit looks very elegant.

Totally agree about the prices in the charity shops. We buy stuff for the home too and goodness, small picture frames 5 quid upwards, some ornaments nearly a tenner. Honestly you can by cheaper by going straight The Range r something (which somewhat defeats the object of upcycling or recycling of course.) I know that charities need to make money, and I don't begrudge that, but pricing themselves out and having stock not moving is a pointless exercise. Surely turning over stock at reasonable prices is better for everyone. We were in one of the dearer charity shops near me the other week, and the shop lady was saying to another customer how the shop is dead and no one is buying .... not surprised at some of their prices! Literally, you could by cheaper on the high street.

Absolutely. I cannot believe prices here in Ireland as well. So many of the items are from Primark or High streets and they honestly are the same price as the shops. If the item is of great quality ok then you should charge more but not for something that is not even very good quality. I think to be honest just because its a charity doesn't mean there aren't some greedy gus at the top.

It is so crazy, on top of that I see them turning donations away because they are full, walked past new look and the dresses were cheaper than the heart foundation madness.

And the worst is some of the large charity shops to keep stock fresh throw it out, even worse they destroy the items they aren't even recycling so dumpster divers can't have them. Seen videos on here shocking they get things for free then begrudge anyone looking in their bins if they can't sell it at their price then nobody can have it. All about making money for the bosses hence increases, some shops put donates straight in bin if they have too much of that category of items.

Completely agree about prices. I recently volunteered for a charity shop and couldn't believe how much was sold to jobbers as rags. I had to stop it made me so angry.
They should sell it cheaply and make everyone happy

    • @TheCraftyNana1

Too right some still reasonable but other crazy prices especially in bigger city's where often people on low incomes need the lower prices. It is a shame the ladies that work there often say they have no choice they get set prices.

  • @vintagemovielover4511

Sadly all the cheaper shops in Newton have closed down, Banardos used to be all set cheap prices under £2 an item, ones left now all upped prices seeing people sell on which hasn't help peopel like me on low income who rely on them. Thankfully I have lots of clothes from over buying in those days just need to lose the extra stone I gained now to still fit in them all again.

    • @TheCraftyNana1
      @TheCraftyNana1  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Maybe you could up cycle some to make them fit you better, I often alter outfits to make them fit.

@@TheCraftyNana1 That's one plan but I know soon as I do they will have fitted again, just like whenever you throw anything you need it week later 😅 Got some lovely vintage coats from charity shops, in days when you could still find vintage I upcycled one with new big faux fur collar, coats aren't the quality now that vintage were.
