“Bennie and the Jets” is another one by Elton John you might like. He also performed it on Soul Train.

@kurtb5817 Wow...Soul Train. Haven't heard that name in years! I will look into that. Thank you!

      FYI Elton hated that song.

@@geoffgeorge805 Yes, I heard Tina Turner hated one of her hits as well. That always surprises me!

Great concert...plus the band includes Nigel Olsson on Drums and Dee Murray on bass...the three were the original Elton John Band.

@Ocrilat I never looked at solo artist has having a permanent band before. That is very interesting! Thank you!

@@menoftomorrowchannel In this case the band was pivotal. In the early days, the original touring band was Nigel Olsson (drums/vocals) and Dee Murray (bass/vocals), and the studio band was more or less whatever session artists Dick James had under contract. The setup didn't work. It was Olsson and Murray that was on stage with Elton when he got the attention of the American market when they killed at the Troubadour in LA. And the three of them toured together, ending the impromptu American season with a live show in New York (immortalized on the live album '11-17-70').
Elton convinced Dick James to allow him to use Olsson and Murray as his session musicians too (in addition to Davey Johnstone on guitars and everything with a string). The three of them, with Elton, just meshed. Now Elton had a band that had a wide experience, and they all played together naturally. So now the writing changed too. It went something like this:
      1. Bernie would just write a bunch of poems.
      2. Elton would pick one out in the morning that he liked, and just put it to music.
      3. He'd play the song on a piano for the band, and the band would work it out in their heads what their role in the song would be.
      4. They'd go into the studio together, and 'mess around' for maybe 20 minutes. Then the red light would go on, and they'd just 'play' the song. So more or less like a jam session. Elton rarely interfered or even made suggestions to the band on what they would play or how.
      5. Then on to the next song. They would be able to write/record about four songs a day. The backing vocals were written and recorded by the band, after Elton had left. So, the double album 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road', with 22 songs, was completed in about two weeks.
      6. When Elton fired the original band, things had changed. Elton started his downward spiral...and the new band lasted about a year. His career shot back up to the top when he brought back the original band for Too Low For Zero in the 80s. Yes, the band matters.
Give a listen to a song like Rocket Man and pay attention to the band...Rick Beato did a nice analysis of it that is worth listening to, and he pays attention to all the elements that made the song (and Elton) so great.

@@Ocrilat Thank you so much! That is fantastic information and how it matters who you work with. I never thought about it in that way, and i just thought he just wrote his songs, and people just followed behind him. That is fascinating! Thank you!

Wow, you reacted to my favorite video 🤩🤩🤩🤩Thank you so much! P.S. Firstly, I grew up in the 80s too and I know for a fact that MTV only showed Elton's music videos like Don't go breaking my heart and I'm still standing. So I wasn't interested in clarifying what he had on the album or how he played live. This is why I hate MTV now. And secondly, I have to agree with you, Elton John is not for children and also not for people who don't understand music. These people only understand when he hits the higher notes 🥴

The English Invasion was pretty much 1964 - 65. Elton's first hit in the US was Your Song in 1970. He was Singer/Songwriter, Pop and Rock. When Goodbye Yellow Brick Road came out, he was the biggest rockstar on the planet. He had a string of hits that rivaled the Beatles. In my opinion, by the time MTV came out, he was releasing throw-away pop drivel. I mean if you like the Lion King's songs, and songs with Dionne Warwick, fine. But it had very little to do with his Rock Star legend. Listen to Bennie and the Jets, Rocket Man, Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting, The Bitch is Back, Philadelphia Freedom and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

Ok hear me out. For this one, you really want the studio version and not a live one. What they did on that track is a masterpiece. it's very hard, nay, impossible for him to replicate the son in concert.

We know, you grew up listening to " RAP " music. Just like 98 % of all black people.
They missed out on tons of great music, only because it wasn't " RAP " music.
