Instead of tracking active solution explorer item I prefer to use ctrl+[+s when I need to find the opened file. Very helpful video tips for junior and regular devs.
I hadn't noticed the keyboard shortcut but there is a Sync With Active Document button that is displayed at the top of solution explorer when tracking the active document is turned off. I prefer not to have my solution tree jumping around and can click that button when I do want to sync to the active document; or use the shortcut that Todor pointed out.
