You mention how one of the things holding back wow from being an esport is how hard it is to understand watching it as a new player or beginner right, although this is true I think part of the problem is arena itself as a mode, the goal of arena teams is easy to understand its just a team death match, but the issues of watching it for me don't just come down to there being too many buttons in the game or too many nuanced plays at once to understand really, even if you understand everything going on on screen its just kind of underwhelming. The fact that forcing an iceblock is the thing being cited here as something that made the audience cheer idk what led to that moment in the match but man, compare that to the insane plays someone like faker does in league tournaments or when everybody TPs botlane to have a 5v5 just because someone overextended or when someone wins a 1v1 in league in a crazy way. Trying to say best I can that wow arena is kind of boring to watch for most people. For all the big names that play it there's no one I want to root for and there's rarely a play that stands out for me. Two teams trying to get setups over and over and going into dampening while all playing perfectly is very uneventful to watch. Many other pvp esports have maps with mechanics and clear cut objectives creating divergent outcomes. You know certain things are going to happen in a 3v3 match looking at the comps because there are less factors, although the map might screw over your comp it just isn't as much of a factor as it is in other games.
True, an esport doesn't just need to be easily understandable by people who aren't on a competitive level, yes it does help but really the bottom line is how entertaining it is to watch.

WoW needs competitive PVP that is not just arena or just bg's. Some objective based but more interesting than flag caps etc
