My mom took in my sister's friend when she got kicked out at 16. Was it a risk, absolutely, but she is now doing wonderfully in life and just needed some guidance. She was never expected to pay any rent or bills, and my mom fed her the same as us. It's a big responsibility that requires selflessness and compassion.

Idk the young lady’s situation, but how can you expect a teen fresh out of high school who was kicked out recently to navigate adulthood that quickly? When taking in young people like that, you shouldn’t expect them to conduct themselves like a more mature adult. I blame the defendants mother first and foremost and i don’t have sympathy for the plaintiff either.

    • @jeffhatmaker817

The minimum wage for Minnesota as of January 2025 is $11.13 per hour. This episode was approximately 3-4 years ago which means it was lower. How in the heck is a 17 year old supposed to live off of that? Especially when a two person household can't. That's without children.
Parents don't need a reason to kick a child out. My sister kicked her daughter out because she didn't want to be a "parent" anymore once she turned 18. Her daughter did nothing wrong, she just aged out of her mom's house. She struggles still at age 26.

@@ImOnAJourney this is a symptom of post WW2. After WW2 the idea of the suburban nuclear family took over. The concept is that son goes out and starts a family. The kids grow up and leave the nest and repeat the cycle over again. Unfortunately when they leave the nest the birds don’t come back. It happens to everyone that comes to this country and lives here generational enough. I have taken care of people of all different ethnicities and everyone eventually abandons their parents. Even American influence in Japanese culture like capitalism has caused the same thing. Right now every 3 mins an elderly Japanese person dies alone. It’s a fact. I do hospice so I’m very familiar with the study of it.

Ah Judy if only that were true....I am genx yep old as dirt. My father kicked me out of my and my dead mothers home because he newest girlfriend of the week didn't believe I was his 15 year old daughter as he told her he was 30 instead of 39...so of course I had to go. He still collected my survivors benefits for 4 more years while I starved, was kidnapped, held hostage and assaulted for days, and got not a penny of it or my inheritance from my mother...oh no he used those checks to pay for his murderous side pieces' and his spawn(they planned and carried out my mothers murder, crippled me for life(staged "accident). I had friends who also got kicked out of the family home for stupid reasons(how dare a teenager be a smart ass, once) or the parents were just garbage people who didn't want to play mommy or daddy anymore. I lived/had lived in a very rich area of a big city(my mom made what today would have been $10,000 not counting overtime(she worked 60-80 hours a week) so we/they were all "upper middle class/millionaires kids....and they(the cops and such) called us "throwaway kids". No one cared. No services were given. Reported it all numerous time to the cops/and social security and again no one cared. So they didn't only steal everything from me but also stole literally the potential for my life. Yep I worked because if I did not I would have starved to death. Crap jobs/hard to get a good job with no education/and disabled.
In my life I have met many other women/young women who also lost their mothers young and the fathers stole from them as well and kicked them out way too young as well. So Judge Judy maybe use some of your power/fame to right some wrongs/get justice for murdered mothers and their financially/physically/socially abused children. My mother would be horrified to know what her husband/my father did. She foolishly trusted him.

Ugh, I love Judge Judy, but sometimes she says really cringey things. Saying that people shouldn't take in kids that have been thrown out is gross. I know she acknowledged that she only sees one side, but it doesn't take a huge imagination to know that some kids are thrown out because they have terrible, abusive parents. Or they're thrown out because they're gay or something along those lines. I feel like she should have known better.

I have a stepson turning 18 on October 25th and he has ADHD. I've been in his life since he was 8 years old and it is hard getting him to understand comprehension skills and have common sense about being responsible in this world. He's definitely extremely selfish most times and constantly need to be talked to like he's 8 years old. Smh. That's just the short story. Don't get me started on his twins sisters who are 23 years old. Lazy most times and prioritizes video games over getting their life together. One has an interview for Publix this Friday and she better not EFF this up!
