Congrats to you, well played. I will note that Mahan still scared you during this video, as I detected several rising notes of panic in your voice on several occasions. Props to him for that. I will say, the second to last encounter between you two, while you were chasing Mahan. I was tense. Well done with that. I have never been made tense by a video I was watching, while there have been a few instances, I can count them all on one hand. So congratulations on that too. Mahan's still ever the strategist, but you were better prepared for that kind of SA-X than you were in the previous Speedrunner Vs. Ambusher vid. He really does play the waiting game really well though, waiting for you in certain locations. He doesn't know where you are, but he does know where you will be. Good job to Mahan for once again being a terrifying SA-X, and congratulations Xander for winning this round... hope this doesn't show up in the main comment, else I'm going to edit this comment so this line is lower and won't spoil... straight away at least. Two questions this time, If they made this type of game but in the world of Metroid 1 (Zero Mission), Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, or Metroid Dread, would you play it? What you think if they remade Metroid Fusion in the 3D Prime kinda format? I wish I could've stuck around for the premier, sadly I had other things, either way, fantastic video Xander, hope you keep doing well
I would! This is a lot of fun and doing it in another game would be great! To see Fusion in a Prime style... It would be interesting. An even creepier horror focused vibe than Prime 2 set in a claustrophobic environment could be interesting!
5:13 Somehow I really love that. That actually caught me a little off guard. The suit color blends into the environment kinda nicely, and this time the SA-X is actually waiting to ambush you rather than running wildy or patrolling. Makes it stand out Kinda cool 13:58 Ohoo~ Payback 20:38 The whole thing here is also pretty neat
adding the rule that any death is a loss is a definite improvement to this series. i found it kinda broken in an earlier episode when you ran away, quickly found an enemy to kill yourself, and then teleported across the map to a save station. especially since it was clearly done due to your opponent leaving you with less than a full tank in your fight. overall, nice change.
At first I only used it to escape genesis easily, but after the touhou killed me mid-chase in the Vs. Bloodhound video I decided it was too much. This rule doesn't effect me as much now that I don't really die to enemies, it just forces me to interact more with SA-X players and makes the Ambusher's playstyle possible! Great change for content, and makes the games a lot closer!
Absolutely fantastic series! I love every single installment so far! Though, it makes me ponder what each could do given a partner who compliments their ability. A bloodhound given a butcher to finish the prey they find, an ambusher constantly trying to give himself titles lugging around a hunter who has no idea WHAT he's doing. See you next mission, Xander!
20:50 was some _good_ fucking soundtrack editing, the way the music cuts out _right_ as the Power Bomb noise starts up and right after the Serris boss theme starts play
Kinda new to this but watching this go down was legit interesting to say at the least. I know its probably not what im thinking but seeing hardcore Metroid players put themselves into the mindset of the SA-X has got to be the most interesting way to play especially the whole mechanic behind hunting down Samus and popping up when you least expect it to show up. Good match between you two and honestly that escape at 11:45 has got to be the most thrilling feeling I ever seen just the fact that you just outright juked the most dangerous creature in Metroid history you did it with flawless precision.
back on normal even with the guy who could lay a fair few ambushes you still never get under half energy. do you think you might be able to incorporate a ban on save stations to give the SA-X a better chance at getting kinda close? with X parasites readily available you aren't hurting for equipment often. and having to spend a bit of time scavaging materials could allow the SA-X time to close in.
Now for my take, The main reason why Save Stations are necessary is because both parties benefit on a time basis. We have more time to run into eachother, accomplish our tasks, and get back in the action. Slowing down the game by banning save stations would result in the SA-X taking longer to find me when it needs to go top up, and make it take longer for me to finish my tasks. If we both run from a fight, we're just wasting time and at the end of the day, this isn't as much a competition as it is a piece of entertainment. The fact that we are playing against eachother and trying to win under agreed rules is what I feel helps to make this more entertaining than if we were strictly playing under a meta defined ruleset.
@@TheyCallMeXander oh no no i meant for YOU not to have a save station, not the SA-X. You are usually able to flow through the game at such a fast pace anyways often leaving the SA-X behind (Which is absolutely insane how you were handling the shine spark this whole video.) But, I do get your logic. I'm just trying to find a way not to limit your gameplay but to try and get that on-edge feeling while watching. But, If the save station limit isn't an okay thing. what about a health tank limit for you? Say about 4-6 energy tanks?
@@blackacemaster It's actually hard to balance SA-X Mode since it's all based on the skill of the players. If the SA-X was played by a highly skilled player like, say, DruidVorse, who's basically the Technoblade of AM2R(and yes, he's absolutely insane playing SA-X mode), Xander wouldn't be winning easily whatsoever because of just how nuts Druid is.
Hard to call this much of a rematch; this just wasn’t Mahan’s run. Dude was having no luck making anything happen; that map glitch just makes it too damn hard to parse where to be.
I just asked Mahan actually (since we're chilling on minecraft). He and I are both happy with this match. we were both taking this less seriously because we were chill from thanksgiving and it also wasn't on Hard mode anymore by a unanimous vote of all 4 hunters and myself. A lot went into this game so it ended up being pretty different.
@@kirberburgy Why would it be the other way around? The Metroids have no reason to hunt Samus. Plus, there isn't any canon or story to this mode - it's just a gameplay combination of Fusion's SA-X chases with AM2R.
In the intro, it says that if you fall to anything it's game over, but I could've sworn you've died to environment enemies before and the video kept going. Also if there is a no death rule then that would mean no death warps which would be a really sick juke to pull eventually.
Ever since Speedrunner Vs. Ambusher we've had a no death rule. In previous videos (speedrunner vs bloodhound for instance) dying to an enemy was highly abused. This adds an extra layer of threat and commitment to going in an area, and really allows this playstyle for the Ambusher to be possible! we're not invalidating the previous rulesets or videos. The developers have stated that there are no future plans for new modes or a battle royale style mode. I do not have the time, skills, or want to make that happen myself but it does sound cool. Maybe somebody will find a way one day.
it is. There's a coded variable in the game where if you morph into a ball within 15 frames (1/4th of a second) of landing during a speed boost you keep the speed boost whilst rolling. It is critical to high level speed boost movement since it allows for great flexibility in carrying speed boosts. It's one of the main reasons why spring ball is a welcome item as opposed to convenience food
i know this is just nitpicky but you guys are really good at bugging me by using the wrong name for things, calling distribution center "hydro plant" in a previous episode, calling industrial site "speed factory" calling the queen "mother metroid". lmao
Distribution Center was an honest slip up, I usually call it the right thing. Everything else is on purpose. "Speed Factory" in particular is my favorite because it's the place I improve at the most with every run of the game, so you could say it's where I produce the most speed!

Death Warps were patched. Now all death counts as SA-X death. This was done for balance issues as the Fusions abused this "method".
