- The R32 GTR - and especially its racing variations - absolutely changed the game in the early 90s. And most notably, it’s the body style that got the Skyline its long-lasting nickname “Godzilla”. And with HKS on the heavy come-up in those times, it’s no surprise that they had a big hand in developing their own version of the Japanese Group A racer. Larry Chen and his squad check out this iconic racecar in all its inline-6 glory.

Proper cars, funny how the R34 is way more well known and famous and essentially only because of a movie when the 32 made all of its rep being absolute monsters on the race track using factory motors (obviously built)

I’ve never seen the R32 HKS GTR in Gran Turismo, only the HKS 180SX and HKS R33 Drag cars, same Livery though

There's a guy in the UK going to crazy lengths to build a good replica of one of these, Alex Crosse (on YT). Ric Wood Motorsport also has a pretty sweet one - not a perfect replica but an incredible one nonetheless.

Ok everything about this car is amazing but the part that caught my attention is those metal straps securing the piping at every silicon coupler. You only see small bits of engineering like that in race cars that need to perform lap after lap and i always nerd out when i see something new to me like that.

@@jadainnovationsjadainnovat9001 no they are on the intercooler piping. It's to keep from blowing a coupling under boost. These cars were making a lot of boost and no matter how tight and secure the couplers are there's always a chance in racing, from all the vibrations and pressure lap after lap, you'll have a coupling slip enough to cause a boost leak or blow completely loose. This would actually be a good idea for diesel guys who are constantly blowing couplers under high boost. There could be some on the radiator couplings as well, which would stop a coupling from slipping under pressure or from expansion but i didn't catch if it was running hardlines to the rad or not.
@@josephandreuccetti8043 the old import mags were the best. There were some really crazy things in them around the time when fwd civic drag cars really started getting fast. A lot of innovation happened around then.

I liked the Jun skyline, top secret was also nice, auto salon did sone crazy things as well. Not at the level of some the top secret stuff but they had some wild builds in the past

@@norgepalm7315 I'm not talking about clamps man pay more close attention there's a bracket that theaded into the pipes and holds them together sort of like a safety wire.
The aussie gtrs had bracing on the turbos to stop them sagging when the manifolds got hot

Until cars start flying, the 90s and early 2000s will forever be the peak of automotive engineering and excellence.
You can make a production car go 500kmh nowadays, but seriously whotf is going to get the opportunity to do that, more importantly who actually cares when you can fly way faster.
When you want the whole package, the proper driving experience without all the bullshit, look no further than the 90s and early 2000s.

Should get in touch with Mark Skaif and Fred Gibson! That's where the Godzilla was made. It's different again from the HKS Group A's because of different requirements and rules. But this HKS was still a favourite of mine as well...

we were about 16years old in 2003 1st class in high school first time in a greek magazine we saw the Word gtr and we were like what the heck is this? and the gtr was the hks r32

The livery’s explanation although insightful missed the most critical reason to it’s success. **The livery is composed of a split-complementary colour scheme.
This is the reason why it is so aesthetically pleasing.
A split complementary color scheme is one where a primary color is used with the two analogous colors to its complement.
Refer to a colour wheel while reading the rest of my comment.
The HKS’s livery’s “primary” colour is the orange, and it’s complement (or opposite colour) is a neutral blue. Clearly there is no neutral blue on the livery. Though indirectly, our eyes gather neutral blue from the broad strokes of purplish-blue & greenish-blue, both of which are the adjacent colours of neutral blue on the colour wheel.
If this is your first time learning about split-complimentary colour schemes, I challenge you to spot it’s application in advertisements, web design, products, clothing, shoes, etc.
