Wow! You guys found a lot! and some really big ones too. You can try muriatic acid. Its a stronger acid and should eat through that shale quicker. But they looked really nice cleaned up! So pretty. I love pyrite. Its amazing what you can find in road cuts. That crinoid stem was long. Its rare that you find them articulated like that. What a bunch of cool finds for sure. Thanks for sharing!

I’m gonna give the muriatic a whirl I think.

I’m still amazed how many popped out of that spot. I’ve never seen that many together

Man there is Pyrite all over the place there , that's super cool , and a lot of those pieces have amazing cubic growth ... but you know me and my love of fossils so I got to ask , Any fossils in the shale ? it looks pretty brittle so I'm guessing no but ya never know.... Those are some very nice crinoids SUPER nice , I need to figure out a way to get them out of the rock matrix when found like that , Im almost wondering if Ultrasonic cleaner wouldn't work ... Might also work on your Pyrite ... but just a hypothesis not 100% sure

Haven’t seen any fossils come out of the shale layer. Just from the top layer that the crinoids were in. The pyrite is really fun to find there! I need to buy a few things to try on getting the pyrite cleaned up more. Time will tell

Try using a textile gun to clean those up. Should take the shale off no proble

I wonder what this was before it turned into pyrite.

“More than 90 percent of the pyrite on Earth is formed by microbiological processes.”….that’s googles answer.
