Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster in the rain on-ride HD POV @60fps

- There are four alpine coasters operating in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area, but this is the only one that has canopies that attach to the sleds that allow you to ride in the rain without getting drenched, so don't let the wet weather put you off from having fun on an overcast day.
This video was filmed with a GoPro chest mount to show the rain canopy unlike the other videos we posted of this coaster, which were filmed with a mounted GoPro 3D camera system.

The Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster is located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
Also called mountain coasters, these gravity-operated rides installed on a hill or mountain utilizes a track made of stainless steel tubes. The sleds are designed to not come off of the track during the ride and riders control their speed by applying or releasing brakes connected to levers on each side of the sled.

What an awesome ride. Whoever thought of riding a coaster through beautiful woodland scenery was a genius. It even makes the slow ascent before the fast part much more enjoyable.

There is something about the ride up on these types of coasters that is cooler than the ride down. It just seems so relaxing.

Everyone bitches, but the intention isn't too much the fear or thrill factor. There is a beautiful mountain around the track that most of us probably don't experience. It's relaxing. If you want "thrill" go to six flags.

Go-Karts are different, you get to enjoy being inches from the pavement, you are in control, you can race others. However, the expense involved in riding them is also outrageous these days. I can take my motorcycle down twisty mountain roads and have more fun than go-karts. Something like $30 for a couple races. Shit... that's 2 1/2 tanks of fuel for the motorcycle... 250 miles per tank.... 625 miles of way more fun then any 10 minutes on a go-kart!

I would have totally enjoyed this ride. It had all the perfect elements. Nice leisurely cruz up. Then a nice descend down. Perfect weather. And beautiful scenery💕!!!

***** The weight limit is for two people to ride together, not so much for individual riders and it's not funny to joke about someone's size or weight.

Camryn Okay Like we said, as long as the person riding alone or persons riding together weigh less than 375 pounds (350 when raining) it's ok. In other words, a person that's over 200 pounds can ride alone or with someone else as long as they don't weigh more than 375 pounds.
***** The question in this case is not stupid and comparing riding alpine coasters to riding on a elevator is ridiculous. There's absolutely no reason to believe that riding alpine coasters might not be an experience to enjoy for people who have to take the weight limit into consideration.

We took a family vacation to Piegon Forge, TN last year and we stayed at an RV resort right down the street from this rollercoaster. My brothers went on this roller coast, but I was unable to because I was in a separate place with my parents. I always wondered what it was like. Now I know. Thank you.
I'm glad I read the comments before just clicking off. Without a point of reference it's not immediately apparent that the sled is climbing. Once it reaches the top the ride is a "coaster" in the true sense. Also going back to the start to enjoy the scenery understanding the climb is more enjoyable.

It takes almost 5 mins to get to the fun part. Looks neat to ride with a relaxing pull to the top and a lengthy ride down. Unlike most rides that are done in 45 seconds.👍

A five minute lift hill
Actually rode this very coaster during my visit to Pigeon Forge. Its great scenery and my young niece got to ride it as well even though she was only 6 years old.
I say this looks soooo relaxing at first then a cascade of awesome on the way down

Nah, I'd appreciate nature either way, sure I lose hours on tech, I'll admit, but seems that the ride could have gone a little faster. Now, questions like, "Why was it slow?" are asked because the main focus on VIDEO would be the coaster, especially when the camera was stationary and not hand-held. That successfully maintains the attention on the track rather than the view. Being that it was the guy's 1st time, he expected the same, other wise he'd of held the camera to display the wonderful sights we may have missed.

That's a pretty good assumption. I tend to think that perhaps the camera was stationary because the guy would rather enjoy the ride and nature than miss it all trying to hold a camera and film. What I get from this video is "hey check this out and that's only the half of it. If you want the full experience you'll just have to come ride it yourself because I'm not holding a camera for 7mins. After all this ride IS pretty slow."

I think this was the coolest thing I have ever seen. Gatlingburg is a very cool town. Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Oh and Dolly Parton lives right down the road.

Here it would be a black bear. I’ve seen many in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and surrounding areas. But this coaster is lots of fun I’ve road it many times since I’m up her all the time because I live a hour a way

I think the point of the ride is to provide a calm and slow scenic experience to riders with a climactic end. The majority is a slow experience so you can take in the mountain views and even quite possibly see some local fauna off in the distance. Then, you get to have a slightly more climactic end with a cruising, fast, experience.
I live in Nortneast Ohio, USA This looks as fun as or more fun than a coaster at Cedar Point, Sandusky, Ohio. And very beautiful scenery.
