Thinned greens from root crops are wonderful. I did this with beet greens just a few days go. I love your channel, this vid is a nice reminder to eat everything, thinings included. Now I'm hankerin' for some turnips!

Your Turnips look great! I did a video called (time to Turn-Up) & on the purple tops I grew one grew to be long & white. Almost looked like a parsnip, & I have no idea why. But most were beautiful & Delicious.

Probably an icicle radish seed got mixed in. I used to grow them when I still lived at home in high school.
My friends mom thought they were the neatest thing so I'd always give her some " of those white carrot radishes" she called them lol

Good morning, Danny and Wanda! I think I'll try growing some of those next season. This year, I grew American Purple Top Rutabagas and canned a bunch. They're just a little bigger, turn a light yellow-orange when you cook them, and have a little different taste.

I'm from the Southeast and that's the way my mama used to cook turnips along with the root cubed up. As a child I didn't like them, but as I got older I loved them. I'm growing some this year for the first time. She also used to cook what she called "mixed greens" which was collards, mustard greens and turnip greens all chopped and mixed together. Good stuff. She also chopped the green leafs of cabbage really thin and cooked similar to collards. They were SO good. Don't waste that extra food.

That's looking great. In the Netherlands we call it a 'Forgotten Vegetable', so it isn't available in the regular stores. The rutabaga is busy making a comeback, so perhaps the turnips are following that direction. None the less, the seed is available, so I will give it shot, cause that looks like my kind of meal :)

This is my favorite green ..but for the last few years haven't been able to grow them in my garden. Don't know why I can't get root crops to grow . These used to grow very well ,but no globes form now. Any ideas what would correct this ? Turnips, turnip greens, seasoning bacon and cornbread. And of course don't forget the pot liquor and you have a meal that's hard to beat ..Many blessings to y'all.

Eating fresh turnips in my great grandma's garden is one of my strongest memories from my early childhood. She always had a big patch behind her house in the mountains of North GA. I live in SW PA and very few people my age have even tasted a turnip. It's kinda sad really.

Yesterday here in Western NY we had high winds, drop in temps and woke this morning to half an inch of snow ... weather man says another storm coming from the West. I told a homesteader last week not to plant anything until after the 13th, well he didn't listen and now he's got to replant 2 acres with new seed ... when will people listen???
YHWH give some people gifts for the good of the entire body, sad when they just won't listen.
Beautiful turnips, you are blessed. Please get ready for some rough weather coming your way, if I'm seeing this right you'll be getting tornados in you area in the next 45 to 60 days ... please be careful and don't leave things out the high winds will pick up and do damage.
    Praying for you!!!
