jojo is a masterpiece, the manga started in 1986 with part 1 and it still is ongoing nowadays with part 9, while the anime started in 2012 and it covers part 1-6. Also part 7 is considered on My Anime List the second highest rated manga of all time. The creator Araki was highly influenced by the western culture therefore there will be lots of pop cultural reference in the show, like: Dio Brando is a reference to Ronnie James Dio (a singer) and to Marlon Brando (the actor in the Godfather), and also Dio means God in Italian; Erina instead is a reference to a Beatles song; Jonathan Joestar is a reference to Jonathan's, a restaurant chain where Araki used to go to, and for the surname, he wanted to create a nickname that could be abbreviate, like Steven Spielberg S.S., so JOnathan JOestar, JOJO.
