      Tbh never understood why people can get so mean towards these cleaners and gardeners, they’re doing physical jobs most people don’t want to do and help keep the city clean. At least in Singapore I haven’t really seen anyone be an arse towards these cleaners and gardeners and Im happy for that. Also the culture of not always throwing garbage everywhere and having a lot of garbage bins around helps a lot

    I am an American visiting Singapore and can confirm that everything that person complained about is wrong. There's a million acceptable places to light a cigarette, just not some parks. It's by far the cleanest city I've ever seen, and the size of it makes that statement quite impressive since it's no easy task to maintain. And how does he expect river water to not look like river water? It's a moving stream that's constantly moving around sediments, dirt, and rocks. All rivers look like that during certain parts of the year, month, day etc. And I've seen at least 5 places selling perfumes since I got here, but why would people wear them all the time anyways since they attract bugs? Definitely some L takes. Singapore is beautiful.

      Not only Japan but Korea is far cleaner. Even some European countries are cleaner. Singapore is not as clean as it used to be and our public infrastructure are full of dirt and stains. It is our cleaners and strict laws that are keeping the place clean. Our people are not as civic minded as Japanese and Koreans who clean up after themselves. Honestly, the only complaint that I would have about Singapore after studying there for a while is accessibility for the disabled. Yes, it's continually improving and props for the additions of elevators at many bridges for crossing. But sometimes I'd be with my friend, who uses a mobility scooter, at certain places that don't exactly have the best designs for accesibility. One that immediately pops into my head is Bugis MRT elevator to the green line platform. It's basically tucked inside a small narrow hallway. Dhoby Ghaut MRT elevator to the red line platform is also awkwardly placed behind a pillar. I guess it's too late to fix that one, but getting in and out of that elevator with a mobility scooter is quite of a hurdle.

      When you're referring to the red and green lines, those are Singapore's very first generation of MRT stations. As unfortunate as it is, accessibility for the disabled perhaps may not have been focused on in the design, but as add-on improvements in the later stages. You can find the interesting mrt map on wiki where the red line was still not connected.

    I'm Asian, not Singaporean though, who lives in the U.S. What this video shows is the real thing that occurs with a lot of white people who visits Asian countries. A lot of white people have had the white superiority ingrained in their bones. When they travel to an Asian countries, developed, developing or third world, they would always mocking the locals for nothing.

      @@str2010 Well, don’t know where you live. But if you’ve live in the U.S. long enough, especially in cities like LA and NYC, you’ll notice that plenty of Latinos miraculously think they’re better than Asians. The funny thing is that they can be a dish washer at a restaurant who speaks broken English or even doesn’t speak English at all, but still look down upon an Asian person, who might make 6 figures a year. This person in the video looks and sounds like a Latino to me. By my observations and experience, he might be one of those Latinos I just mentioned.

    • @str2010
      @str2010 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@sl0523 you didn't say Latinos in your original comment. You said "white people". Granted, some people do consider them white, but they are generally considered (and I mean this in the most respectful way possible) a distinct group. Also, he's from Romania, so it's probable he may not even be Latino. Their are other ethnicities in eastern Europe. In any case, "White superiority" usually refers to a certain group's perception of superiority. Not only did you appear to generalize white people in your original statement, you also ignore the fact that Latinos have also been considered victims of white superiority. Just look at US news, from both sides of their aisle, their politics.
      Don't get me wrong, I am mad at that tourist for being racist, petty, for his unfair and unfounded criticism, and for straight up gaslighting people who call him out, but your comment... Comes off the wrong way. Why you brought in white superiority when it's likely just a lone isolated case of racism, from a dude that is not even "white", I do not know.

    The first time I went to Singapore was in 2009 and my only purpose is to watch the F1 Race, which is I think the first F1 race there. Now I have visited Singapore so many times that I already lost count and this time without any F1 races. Even though I have only visited so few countries in my life, I think Singapore sets my standards on what to expect in a country so high. Yes Singapore has places that are not so tidy and the climate is humid and hot but that does not stop me from returning. If I will count the pros vs the cons of visiting Singapore, the pros will out number the cons 100:1.
    Also, any place in the world has its own rules and regulations that needs to be observed and follow. If you don't like the rules and regulations of that place, dont' go there. Very simple.

Him saying the country is not clean personally attacked me, all the cleaners, workers are working overtime not just to make a living but to make sure we have a clean environment. Other part is the weather, I still trying to adapt with heat.
    Other than that. Singapore is beautiful, small country that I can just explore places slowly. Tho I didn't explore enough.
    And this type of foreigner, they are always entitled no matter where they at, as soon as I saw him, I know where that from. Most people come from that area are actually arrogance and refused to follow or respect others. We have few in our hiking group and we don't like them. They smoke everywhere around people while many of us away and joined other smokers.
    They grew up to think they are a better human than others. And should stay where they belong.

    Perfumes were originally invented to mask body odors in times when it was difficult to have regular baths. Almost all residents in Singapore would take at least one, and many take more than 1 bath, a day (the weather is hot!) and so don’t need to use perfumes to mask the smells. To some local residents, strong perfumes can be quite nauseating. It’s just a matter of what people are accustomed to.
