Awesome video. I started mini jigging for trout in early 90's when big John owned Phenix. We were using electrical tape to hold our reels. We were using 8' to 9' boron phenix sticks.
New Jersey, south. I was a bait and wait with mouse tail specialist. Recently I switched to mini jigs. Only thing i can say is WOW. I feel like the more i fish i get MADE. I totally agree with the different styles with different rods for jigging. I watch and enjoy your videos.
Man these videos about mini jigging never get old! I love coming back and just talk tackle and technique. You gotta do more one on one interviews with similar questions you gave estevan and so cal trout cartel. I think Rob should get another interview, rha tackle seemed to get more spotlight on that video.
One of the huge names in so cal jig fishing is mark kaihara RIP he taught me how to do it over 25 years ago a lot of the best jig fisherman today learned a lot from mark he is a absolute legend I’ve never seen anyone better
Arkie crappie jigs or creme tube lures to Berkley powertubes, basically what ever jig was available at your local Walmart or Big 5 at the time. Even using the 2" scampi twintales you can pickup at fisherman's hardware in Long Beach worked pretty good 👍
Bro gd looking out. Ive been fishing dixon lake for a while and see u guys killing it shit i was always wondering how u guys do it shit ive used just simple power bait and spools thanks for all your info bro bad ass info thanks 🙏 dis helps alot to catch trout
Just got turned on to mini jigs. Its been kastmaster, rooster tails, Buoyant spoons, and power bait. Hitting Jennings saturday with some mini jigs i found in my sons old tackle box. Just subscribed here and followed on IG. Great videos man. Keep up the good work.
@@TroutMadeAnglerCo slow day man. No bites. Had 3 in front of me threw everything at them. Finally 15 min before closing. I hooked up on my power bait rod jajajajjajajajajajaja!!!
First of all great channel with lots of info keep it up im from way up north in canada quick question for the first hand tying jig donyou know where i could order the body from? There's not description in the box
Welcome from Canada, eh!!!! Right on! So awesome! I’m sorry I didn’t leave it in the comments! Haha you can reach on IG I believe Ju-Jigs or Trap Jigz. Thanks for watching!!! GET MADE!
I agree with others here. Crappie jigging in the early 90s at Dixon is where I first saw it. Gun smoke and clear we’re the go to! Let’s not forget those mini rapala cranks in the eat lunch 90s.
Yoooo Fish DOGGS!!! Definitely early 90's maybe late 80's. Crappie john invented them, or first used crappie jigs for trout. But there is def some pioneers out there! Yup, the cranks! Warpaint Custom has revived that!
Love your channel, you had me rolling with the kid that was fishing right next you. That’s how I got in the jigging game. Those kids with Fannypack tackle-box’s . Me with my 100lbs of gear 🤣🤣🤣
First saw this in the early 90's.. Maybe 93 or 94. Back then it was a jighead with a power worm put on the jighead, that was the first time I saw it. Youngsters my age back then were killing them at Yucaipa Regional Park in SB County,.
Sick! Great info brotha! Appreciate the input and history. I was only taking yearly trips to the Sierra at that time, I was into sports a lot that kept me busy, wished I was fishing!
I just started trout fishing again this year so this year is the first for me. I'm shocked how a whole community is involved in this. How many like Get bit Kustomz is making them. Wow
WOW! Bro I did some research and found an article about Crappie John from 1985!!! So rad! I never heard of these names! I'm new on the scene as some would consider - I was in the Navy a long time. So rad! Thanks for contributing some cool stuff! Appreciate the support!
Keep up the great work i only resort to bait and wait , Which is never .. lol Im teaching my kids how to toss jigs now . They are getting bored of tossing power bait it’s getting boring for them . It’s more fun casting anyways . Haha Ttyl
Hi Anthony! I've actually caught a couple trout on them. I'd check out COMBAT JIGS they have a mini swimmer with better colors I believe IMO. GET MADE!
Great video man! Yeah I was fishing them back in the early 90’s. Fished the parks and used them heavily at Irvine Lake for years. Still to this day it’s the primary way we fish especially in the Sierra’s. Keep up the great videos man!!!
Very cool! Thanks Robbie! As this video has come out, I've had anglers send in some great info and I've talked to anglers and it seems the mini jig for trout came in and got popular in the early 90's! I'll make another video here soon! Appreciate it much!
Hey brotha! Appreciate the support and watching! Oh I thought I did? Great input! Mini jig is used with a tube jig head and all the others are used with a ball head!
@@TroutMadeAnglerCo no yea i know how there used. For the other peeps that dont know. But i didnt.see those lil extra videos. Either way dope video brotha. Keep up the good work bro. Tight lines g
The earliest I remember was Crappie John. Late 80s at Guasti killing it with a yellow/white crappie jig tipped with a small meal worm. 2# test with a Kencor noodle rod. Seriously one of the 1st. Power bait only had 2 colors yellow and pink in glass jars. If you fished Guasti, Glenn Helen, Prado back in the 80s that's where it started. Kencors were nearly $100 but no one made a rod that light with that action. That's where people started rolling your P/B Great channel bro, Thanks for your service!!! By the way what brand ball heads are you using. I see they don't have a barbed holder.
DUCKMAN! Great info! I'll definitely use this info in the next episode! Appreciate the feedback! Thanks for the support! I get them from @gsfcustombaits check em out
As I’ve done research I’ve found the technique to be called different things regionally. At one time the world record brown trout was taken on a “mini jig” (arkansasroadstories.com/nature/trout.html). But I’ve heard them referred to as “midget” jigs. Up North those guys have a technique called “twitch jigging” they use although not the light tackle I find the technique similar and have learned from them. Keep doing what you doing I think we all need more info about “mini jigging”
Hey Jack! Sorry for the delayed response! Getting back to the grind! Great info!!!! Yes in Arkansas it was a mini jig, but I also heard if not that one a nightcrawler caught it. I fished Arkansas and they produce some records for sure! Appreciate your support! Definitely more mini jig content coming! Thank you!
I've noticed that in SCAL. Here in NCAL the water is not as clear at our stocked lakes. We mainly use spoons here. Mini jigs are the backup option. Its my goal this year to start jigging. I'm on 4lb ultralight setup right now and adding a 2lb test combo for jigging to try and get that 1/32oz jig further. Keep up the videos man. I'm trying to learn and up my game every time I hit the water.
Thanks for watching! NRCAL in the house! That's interesting, but definitely confirms my theory that its a SoCal thing. I'd really hit the jigs hard this year up there. Maybe an experiment, maybe land bigger fish, more fish? We have some suspect waters here too, colors change and retrieve change. Use whites/ white and yellows, oranges and garlic scent...leave it in the water a little longer drop to bottom retrieve, let them find it sniff it out! Let me know how you're doing with jigging! Looking forward to seeing what you catch! Appreciate the support!
Mike, really like the studio.👍👍
Thanks Jim! I don’t have one right now really so, it’ll be coming soon!

In the 90s Irvine lake Santa anna river lakes , green valley lake works great 👍 i put some extra bam secret setup on it and it gets bit .
