i dont think humans should decide who lives and who dies. maybe dont have criminals sitting in a box for their whole life and make them work to benefit society but i dont think we should have a say in whether they can live or not, even if they thought they should with others

I’m a libertarian in general but I agree with Maher on this. First of all, there isn’t any difference between a death sentence and a life sentence. Yes one is an execution while the other leaves you locked up for the rest of your days, but in both scenarios, the state is taking your life away. It doesn’t make any sense for the law abiding citizens that are working to be forced to pay for murderers and rapists food, water and shelter for the rest of their lives. Now as some people have pointed out, some people have been executed despite being innocent and that is terrible, but that’s not necessarily a reason to throw the baby out with the bathwater. I agree that you should make sure that the evidence is crystal clear before sentencing anyone to death row but don’t take that option away at all levels
