    I have extremely fond memories of watching our local farmer harvesting corn in the field behind our house, It was during the 80s and the harvest seemed to go on forever, and we loved it. The combine we adored and which seemed to herald the beginning of summer was a 1966 Class Matador ( giant). It had no cab and the farmer sat up there for hours in a cloud of dust. We were heart broken when we found out it had been destroyed in a barn fire in the early 2000s. The memories we have are priceless.

    I doubt a 2020 combine would last 36 years with all the electronics they have. Cracking vid. Keep up the good work.

    This is fascinating! Combines changed the face of farming probably more than any other piece of equipment. This marvelous machine enabled farmers to set their sites on feeding the world rather than just their families. God bless the ingenuity of Hiram Moore.

    Machines on the farm really do become part of the family after years of service.

    So cool to see a nice clean old combine still working and earning a living, I remember as a kid watching 3 TR 85's going around a field with the chaser tractors going flat out trying to keep up, sadly that field is now an ASDA super market and industrial park.

    The farm I worked at when I left school had a 1989 model. I remember how loud it was and the mouse that also lived in the cab! Haha. Very little to go wrong with them though and it did many years of service.

    Brings back memories ; combining career started as a fourteen year old on (not in) a Ransome Cavalier , went through a series of Masseys and ended with a TF42. While watched you I could almost taste the warm grapefruit squash I used to drink gallons of every harvest.

    That bought back memories of my God father cutting his small holding in Boxted, Essex back in the late sixties. That old combine had no cab, uncle Ron was wrapped up like an Egyptian mummy from head to foot. The field was only a few acres but in the time it took to harvest he would sweat away several pounds. I vividly remember him taking off his boots and pouring out the sweat. Those men were heroes, working so hard to get the crops in. Thanks for that, it's many years since I thought about that lovely man, he had the patience of a Saint and taught that stupid kid so much about the value of things that I took for granted.

    Proof that a well maintained bit of kit will last a long time. Good design ,not over complicated but very capable after all these years! Great to watch the obvious skill and respect you have with this vehicle. Thanks for sharing and explaining the process . Magic

    These classics will still be running in 25 years time when all the electronic satellite controlled combines have given up the ghost due to electronic gremlins 😁reminds me of driving a same 160 six cylinder air cooled tractor back in the early 90,s what a tractor that was 👍👍 great video !!

    That was THE best video on combines I have ever seen, as kids we would hear them operating in the fields and leg it out there just to watch them at work even at night. That was in the 70s. So the one you were driving hadn't even come off the drawing board I reckon.
    I remember doing some mechanical work on a farm near Bedford in the 80s and this farmer had just bought to Claas Dominators, one still had plastic on the back of the seat. I just wanted to get up there sooooo badly, salivating was an understatement. Alas the farmer never invited me up into the cab for a look around, I was gutted.
    Even today I am fascinated by these machines, I guess I never quite grew up 😔
    More combine videos please 😊

    really nice to see a classic combine still in use just as i remember driving one many years ago love the free play on the steering

    • @LordMuck
      @LordMuck  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's actually no play as such it's just the fact there is no mechanical linkage, you have to 'absorb' the flow in the pump. It's actually very reactive (sometimes a bit too much !)

    That was a great video to watch , was extra special for me actually as I helped with some thoughts of my late dad who left us 8th February this year, ☹️☹️ Anyone who has read my post will know my dad was a Army REME mechanic, when he came out of the army he was snapped up & given a job by the then “Testers of Edenbridge “, Kent a Ford new Holland dealership ,as time passed on my dad became re- nowned for his expertise on combines, repairing many & troubleshooting, my mum remembers him never being home much during the very busy harvesting time when combines were most active & required assistance if they broke down, very crucial to the farmers & their incomes !!! Thanks for the video, footage & memories that help ease the pain during our loss !!👍👍👍

  • @oliverharding9761
    @oliverharding9761 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thank you that was brilliant. Back in the mid 70's to the early 80's I drove a M1100 and a M1300 neither of them had a cab and they never gave a seconds trouble. In 79 they bought an International combine with a 21 foot head and it was a disaster as you can imagine field gateways in Ireland in the 70's in Ireland were not very wide and it was only when the combine got to the field anyone thought of sorting that out but the worst thing was the International combine broke down so that was the end of that. That same farmer and his two sons still run up to date Deutz combines. Don't know where the old combines went.

    I used to drive a Lexion 570 with a 25’ header but often preferred driving the old Laverda with a 12’ table that we had at home as there I was more to do, kept you busy and made a fantastic sample.

    I rebuilt one of those deutz motors in a poclain excavator once.
    Was pretty straight forward but the push rod tubes to head were a real shyte fight.
    Love the blower getting all dust out , a big radiator genie.

    Well L&M you hit the spot once again' I could see clearly that you loved every minuet driving the combine , envious! Takes me back a long while ago the first combine I drove was a Masey harriss, and guys on the side would be sacking up the wheat and dropping down the chute back on the field. My what a lot of graft! Then latter on the far acquired two Ransome combines. My old buddy who drove the other Ransome in the first month he wrapped the the auger round a telegraph pole. This caused a ruction with the boss. Now for the scores; 100% for the video, and for the still entertainment I award you an extra 50%. Nex time I watch a video of your's I will be more prepared? I will be wearing some "incontinence pads ", pissed my self with laughter! Have a good weekend and see you again. Well done. regards Jon

    Hi mucker I see you enjoyed yourself on the Deutz I have to admit she still sounds spot on but I used to drive the old yellow new Holland and that was the best upgrade ever was having a cab fitted because the new Holland you sat ontop of the header and gets as dirty as hell and when we harvested barley that was something worse than being stung by a hundred bees with all those little bits sticking into your skin and the old lady used to get the hump when I had a bath every night when I got home, I was going to ask about the Belarus but you already answered that, this is another great video thanks mucker.

    Oh wow, I have thousands of hours in a Deutz-Fahr M 2385 , we owned one on our farm, basically a bit newer version of this one your driving in the video, we barely had any failures with it, only one shaker bent during harvest in our extremely hilly ground on a rented farm we had and of course some belts, other than that, nothing, this brought a huge lot of happy memories for me :)

    Love to see classic machines at work, makes you think back to the past. The farm my dad and grandfather worked ran a mf 750 in the 80s. I remember it cutting a small field of wheat as a kid and it making a smoke ring round the field as it cut the headland out. My mate has a small farm and runs a mf 750 and when you see it in the shed it looks so small, but look a monster as a kid. Thank for videos!
