Made this. Awesome! Added brown mushrooms and instead of straining out the sauce, I skimmed off the fat and scum but left the chunks of carrot, celery etc as we love all that goodness! I served mine on a bed of half mashed potato and brown rice for a lower carb (diabetic friendly) option. Thanks for a great recipe. The entire bottle of Shiraz added so much depth and richness without being too heavy!

I can't tell you now much hubby and I enjoyed this! I only love deep flavors and this was gorgeous! I've tweaked it a little by adding balsamic vinegar to the veggies while frying and one can of tomatoes and I'm still licking my fingers!

I started eating lamb about 6 years ago. At first it was a bit too gamey for my taste but over time I became accustomed to the gaminess to the point where I now feel beef is bland and unsavory. It's true that our palette is very malleable and we can become accustomed to just about anything. Nowadays with the exorbitant price of beef I find myself buying lamb from Australia and New Zealand at my local Costco wholesaler more often than not. Braised lamb shanks are an especially rich cut of meat that is highly affordable given the fact that it has to be braised to make it sufficiently tender. When done right this dish is absolutely awesome and the fact that it's relatively cheap is an added bonus!!!!!!
