TUSK is an urban kit for any Abrams tank, it can be mounted on any Abrams, it is not a variant, its a kit.
I forgot to mention that another difference between M1 and IPM1 is the bar on the mantlet, on M1 it is straight while on IPM1 it has a sharp turn. Picture for reference:

@@burnttoaster6313 Abrams never got DU in the hull, that is one of the major misconceptions, there was never need to add DU in the hull since even if added the protection would be inadequate and it would only add unnecessary weight. I dont know what changes have been done to M1A2C but up until, and including, M1A2 SEP V2, Abrams never had DU in the hull.

@براہمداغ There is the case of one challenger 2 getting its thermal sights knocked out by multiple RPG27s, but the tankis still function able and were back to combat condition in a few hours. The tank itself is fine.

But in a real battleground, won't a tank loose loads of its effectiveness to a measly "rifle bullet to a delicate external sensor", in critical situations when the tank is needed the most.
And the more critical a situation happens to be, the more bullets will be flying around.
0:56 IP model also has the rear turret basket. Original M1 did not. Very easy way to distinguish even at a distance, and you can see it in the images in the video.
M1A1's turret basket is slightly different to the IP's

Another distinguishing feature between the baseline M1 and the M1IP is the rearmost section of the side skirts; on the M1 it is triangular in shape, whereas on the M1IP and later Abrams models it is shaped like a sideways L (or in some cases removed altogether).

M1A2C turret armor modules are about 13 percent thicker (LOS) than previous M1A2 SEP. Also the shape of the front turret is subtlety different. I made comparison that are posted on the sturgeon forums.
Served on the M1,M1IP,M1A1,Aim,and M1A2 great platform, unmatched anywhere in the world
K2 Black Panther, Leopard 2a7 and arguably Leclerc are objectively better tanks than the Abrams so I wouldn't exactly call it "unmatched".

@@ItsATrap614 they have their pros and cons when compared. But the tank in question did prove it's worth and claim back in 1991. And the K2 isn't even on the same spectrum as the rest of the tanks mentioned, including the M1A2SEPv3, Markava, Challenger II, Type 10, and many other tanks around the world.
@@faq187tim9 actually it's not a bad tank. It has some features better than the Abrams and some that are lacking. Years ago it wasn't great, but has improved greatly over the years.
Im surprised you didn't mention the biggest visual diff between M1 and M1A1 - rear drive wheel on M1 has big overlap on outside of track.
i dont think all M1s had that tho. If u look at the pics in the video some M1s have that while others have the one that looks the same as the M1A1s.
You’ll see M1A1s with/without it on, it just depends. There’s a classic pic of an Aussie M1 with a EC Tiger in the background with the old type of sprocket on it.

Those are not part of the sprocket. You can see them on modern day US Marine Corps tanks. It's to prevent throwing track. There's a reason you dont really see them on the SEP tanks but I'm not 100% sure why it changed. It wasn't variant specific so it's not mentioned as a visual difference. It was also not on every tank of those variants.
I thought they installed missiles to side of the tanks like in Command and Conquer, looks cool but impractical.
But a LOT of IFV's got ATGM's on the turret side. Like the BMP and Bradley series. Not mentioning the BMPT-72 Terminator (my favourite).
But a tank can make good use of ATGM's. The Russian tanks use them quite a lot. Fired from the main gun tho.

Turret side-mounted missiles look cool until you realize someone has to pop out of the hatches while carrying a missile to reload the launchers. Better stick with cannon-launched missiles :P
Quick note, there are still some SEPv2s rolling around without CROWS or the backup camera, all the internal electronics are the same.

Good Video. M1A2C or sepV3 also has some extra hull armour. I suspect they feel that the performance of potential 130mm-152mm Apfsds and advanced HEAT warheads Is rather high.
I thought on M1IP the IP was for improved particulate. It has a big box on rear near exhaust.

Could you do an analysis video of Autoloader vs Manual Loader, I think that autoloader has gotten a reputation of being bad / inferior that is honestly unfair and inaccurate.

Some of this info is wrong, the M1A1D did have CITVs installed but few were used in the US. The export version M1A1E was an A1 that had the digital improvements such as the crows and CITV installed onto the turret but had NO composite or DU armor.

you missed TUSK and TUSK 2 variants, they can be recognized by ERA pac kages on the side sjirts and remotely controlled m2 station on top(non low profile one) as well as m240 which cant move because of FCS

The M1IP and the M1 also has 1 other difference. The M1IP "long hull" is essintaly a m1a1 turret without the 120mm smoothbore so the M1IP like the M1A1 has that rear storage rack.

@RedEffect (or anyone) I just had a question: Why do tanks like the leopard 2 or Type 99 tanks use “arrow” shaped armor on their turrets?. Wouldn’t that just deflect a round into the hull and penetrate the weaker hull armor?
Apparently the spaced add-on armour modules on the turret front defeat a hollow charge prior to reaching the base armour, and causes kinetic-energy penetrators to change direction, eroding them in the process; it does not form a shot-trap, since it does not deflect the penetrators outwards to hit the hull or turret ring.
Could you make a video of how to differentiate the leopard 2 variants and how to identify their year of production?
Love the video! But could you perhaps add side-by-side photos of the differences between details of versions? Because things like those are easier to identify when you have seen both next to each other. Otherwise it's really great, just something I think would make it even better.

Why do tanks use DU armor, isn’t tungsten just as dense? Why not use tungsten?
Doesn't the IP mean improved protection? Because that's all that was changed on the tank.
The m1a2 sepv2/3 will still be the best tank in the 2020's, It can easily penetrate the frontal armor of a T-72B3 at 3000m, while the T-72B3 will need a side shot or a lucky frontal hit or get within 1200m to get a frontal kill shot.

You can't have led in the paint, but Depleted Uranium is OK! I know that unless it's lose, it isn't harmful, but so is lad in the paint, it's oxidized!
You missed the M1A2-MEME (Mobility Enhanced Mission Electronics). Which has 3 Prius engines in place of the turbine for better eco points.
minor inaccuracy. the IPM1 was the first to mount the rear turret basket.
Nope, some did not. We got issued new M1IPs in '85, no rear basket but they did have the mount for the CITV. They also had been fitted the rear skirts without the cutaway, but were cut in place before delivery.
@@evtinker1814 but the M1IP never had mounts for CITV? the M1a1 was the first to feature the mouting hardware for a CITV. also the IPM1 was the first to mount a rear bustle every picture of IPM1's have rear bustles i think its likely the M1 you had was just a simply M1 that had been retrofitted with the newer rear side skirts.

You can also see, no bustle rack.
As for the skirts, they were cut very jagged and rough. Remember the last skirt over the sprocket is only then aluminum, not armored. We were issued these in Vilseck, in Jan of 85
@@evtinker1814 okay I figured it out the late production IPM1's had the CITV mount because it shared the same turret as the M1A1 however the rear bustle rack can be seen in examples predating the M1A1 with MERDC camouflage. Its likely yours just didn't have it attached.
@@nemisous83 Yes, I recall they said ours were made to allow easy upgrade to M1A1 at a later date. We had tanks from both the Detroit and Lima plants, and they didn't quite match exactly. My platoon was all Detroit built, I am not sure how the Lima ones were different. After the M60A3s we really missed the bustle racks.
This Christmas tree turret is reason why armata is the best tank in the world. Armata is designed to accommodate all those things on turret in perfect way possible. Abrams is like; let's put it here and see what is gonna happen. From time to time is better to put white paper on table and do it right way then try solving existing problems.

The Israeli's have developed the LAHAT for their Merkava's 120mm, which is basically a licensed version L/44. Now the Abrams' M256 is basically based off the L/44, which doesn't necessarily mean the Abrams can shoot them, but the technology is there

@@Brother_Nihilus Well you can easily tell that Tr-77-580 has side skirts (T-55 normally doesn't have side skirts), also has 6 road wheels instead of 5 and T-55 has different mud guard.

But if you got an old tank vs a modern tank then yes old will die but if you just use it in a good way, ie if there is another tank pull it back but if there is just apc or ifv its better then nothing to use set tank even if its old

If you put your tank in the middle of open field, your tank cannot protect itself because all tanks armor are focused on Turret. Body of the tanks are pretty weak.
So you have to hide the body of the Tank, atgm cannot penetrate the turret armor.

You can identify them by being misused and getting their ammo racks blown up by insurgent ATGM's, which, at least when the blow out panels do their job, means a big, fat flame coming out of the rear of the turret. ;)

@Ef77 It does not matter how much fuel a tank eats? Jesus Christ. When a tank needs more fuel than another tank then the radius it can operate in is tinier. And when one tank has 300 KM radius and the other tank has 400 KM range, the second tank has an huge advantage. The Leopard 2 engines have less fuel consumption (->bigger range), make less noise (smaller detection radius) and they can take every type of fuel you have. It can drive with Diesel, Cerosine and with normal fuel. (Sorry for bad english, english is not my motherlanguage).
@Ef77 You say that the engine detection radius isnt a thing anymore because modern armies can detect tanks kilometers away with their engine off? How about ISIS and other terrorist groups? They dont have this stuff. On modern battlegrounds you have to be more stealthy than the enemy. This also complies to tank engines.
