The pressures of working in emergency medicine is forcing increasing numbers of doctors out of the system or overseas. Here we see how the busiest A&E department in the UK, at Queen's hospital in Romford, east London, relies on locums, part-time doctors and on recruiting staff from abroad. People complaining that the team didn't do enough for that child clearly don't have any knowledge of these situations.
1. Only 10% of patients that require cardiopulmonary resuscitation survive.
2. Asystole, which the child was in, is when no signs of life are coming from the heart, this mean even defibrillators won't restart the heart only compressions and adrenaline can be used to try to restart the heart, the fact that they continued as long as they did went above and beyond what was possible.
3. Talking from experience try working in these circumstances they are not being slow they are remaining calm to do this is extremely difficult.
Just because it's not the same as casualty doesn't mean they are doing it wrong. They are professionals.
Correct! Common people are so used to the medical drama they see on TV. It happens in real life if the staff is inexperienced. There is more to it than what you see.

tamer cape I think the NHS do a fabulous job , but you can see there really busy and not enough staff is why we wait so long at A&E
Agreed! I'm not a doctor or anything like that, I'm just an ordinary pleb. A pleb who witnessed paramedics try and resuscitate my dad. They pronunced him deceased sadly but I could see they did their best and I'll always be grateful.
They also did bloody well to travel some 60 miles in 25 minutes! (Yes I was doing cpr) Who'd of thought that tranny vans (or was it a merc sprinter?) Could go so fast? And especially over Sutherland's not-the-best-roads.
Echo 9970 thank you. I'd be lying if I said I didn't worry about breaking one of his ribs but I decided it was a necessary risk, cruel to be kind. I followed the instructions given to me by the 999 operator to the letter (and my first aid education from school).
The operator was a fantastic woman, tolerated my bad language, no I didn't swear at anyone or the operator. But I don't want to call the 999 ever again.
I think it would help if people would at least acknowledge the very real possibility of death. I did, and that helped me.

3 years working in Brazilian hospitals, believe me, UK hospitals are a lot better than our public hospitals, I love this life but I'm tired of Brazilian urban violence. Next year I'll try PLAB, UK wait for me, you'll have one more A&E doctor.

As a porter at Queens hospital who does some shifts in A&E from time to time, I can vouch that our A&E can be extremely busy. We can have a team of 10 porters and not one of us sits down, we're all out doing whatever we can. Thankfully I usually work in Theatres so it isn't so bad, but no matter where we are, we all work well as a team.

@@IanForster-we2mb I haven’t been a porter now for 4 years. I now work on the railway but when I visit the hospital, a lot has changed, especially the faces!

Real life emergency and hospital life. Huge contrast from the usual stuff people see on TV.
Not enough resources, end of story.
This video summarises 2 things. One how underfunded the NHS is. Two how NHS employees are not respected or praised enough

The real trouble that ERs today have is a money hungry society. Back 40/50 years ago, you had your neighborhood GP who saw you from the day you were born till the day you died.
If you were poor, you had free clinics you could go to and some hospitals even had dental clinics. If you had a mental health issue, they could send you to a psychiatric hospital for treatment.
Now, the message is, no money, no treatment and most docs won't see medicare/Medicaid patients because what they pay has been cut drastically The closer you can get to mental health services is the 72 hour psychiatric hold. That's why ERs are such a mess now.

This hospital is the hospital that have nearly killed me twice they see people in order of arrival a person passing out in the hall won't be seen before the person in front unless they are dying even if its a broken toe or twisted ankle I went in with an infection that progressed to sepsis because they refuse to make less injuries wait. I don't doubt they have a hard job but this hospital is a joke
Over crowding is not a problem in the US. Cant swing a dead cat without hitting a hospital of clinic.

Kenneth Gammon: Unless you are a healthcare provider working in an urban area hospital, or someone who is been to an Emergence Room, please do not share your opinion because you not knowing the whole pictures. We got patients lying on very space limited stretcher/trolley but not an hospital bed in the hallway/corridor in our urban hospitals.
