      The Mega Man Anniversary Collection on PS2, Gamecube and Xbox used the PS One version of X3 which also had that intro. Honestly after playing that version for so long at the time and now playing the SNES version, I prefer the SNES version. The PS One version would show a animated FMV for each maverick when you select them, I also stopped liking those and prefer it show the maverick intro like X1 and X2.

    I remember renting the SNES version once at a Hollywood Video across town and they never carried it again because it was right when SNES stuff stopped being carried. And emulators couldn't run it for some reason at the time. AND it was a super expensive rare game.
    Didn't know the Saturn version had such a nice little anime!

      The most likely reason is that X2 and X3 had a Cx4 chip in it. It was used to create wireframe effects in both games and if emulator didn't support the chip it wouldn't run.

      Not so old as... You can be just about 5 years older than someone who was born after Sega's last console the Dreamcast (1998)... Fun fact: Companies back then were producing consoles one after another in a very crazy speed... From 1990 to 1998 MANY consoles were released: Super Famicom, Super Nintendo, Playstation, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, Atari Jaguar, Philips CDI, 3DO, Apple Pippin, Sega Dreamcast and many others... Therefore... Because so many consoles were released in 8 years... Literally Sega released a console every 4 years and a shit-ton of add-ons literally every year... It's easy to say... A person born before the Dreamcast is not necessarily so much older than a person born after the Dreamcast..

    I was expecting the Saturn version to mop the floor with the SNES version, surprised how well it compares. Obviously the Saturn has the FMV and better audio, but besides that the actual gameplay was far closer than I expected.

    • @reluttr2

      The audio is even up to debate. The SNES version has a very punchy rock mix of the tunes where the Saturn sounds like jazzy elevator music renditions of the themes.

    • @mario4everd

      Honestly I dont think the fmv works in this case and I love the saturn. If you compare the quality with the flying spider for example, it looks sharper on snes because compressed fmvs have become dated by modern standards. The scrolling also looks smoother on snes in that section (look at the cloud movement).

    Soundtrack wise, I prefer the SNES soundtrack. The Saturn soundtrack (same can be said about the PS1 version) sounds like it has some jazzy theme going on that it doesn't fit in with Megaman X3 when it should have the hard rock & metal music going on like in the SNES version.

      Music is a subjective topic.
      I prefer the music in the Sega Saturn/PS1 port
      The music of the SNES version is...lame. OK, some few tracks are good like Zero's theme but the rest are just there.

      But you are losing a third of the play area which isn't so bad if the pitch is arranged vertically. But you are not getting square pixels in 32col (compatibility mode).
      40 col mode is a square pixel at 4:3 aspect which is 320px x 240px.
      32 column mode is 8:7 aspect which is 255px horizontal.

      @@Vegeta-79 To be honest I play Master System in 4:3 and that only has 255 horizontal pixels. But take Fatal Fury 2, which uses large images of people's bodies and the wrong aspect ruins it. • @iwanttocomplain

      It's not that easy to force the correct aspect on Mega Drive emulators because the only fully compatible one with it's own front end is Fusion which doesn't offer 1:1 pixels.
      Mednaffe ui can do 1:1 pixels. But the Mednaffe UI program might give the laymen some issue's as it's not as easy to use as Fusion.

    Honestly, I'm gonna stick with the SNES version. the game was basically built for the SNES anyways. aside from the FMV cutscenes & CD Quality music/sounds, It really doesn't offer anything new. The cutscenes drags the game a bit more & you got loading times to top it off. The SNES has shorter cutscenes & no load times, it basically throws you into the action.
    I also think the new CD Quality music in the Saturn/PS1 version sounds kinda unfitting for a Megaman X game. I don't mind Techno music but when I think of Megaman X music, I think of a more Heavy Metal/Rock style music like what the SNES trilogy does.

      The Saturn got versions of MM8, MMX3 and MMX4.
      X4 is just like its PS1 counterpart with some subtle differences. Some stage songs have an intro before the stage itself begins, they added ripple to the water, and transparent objects use dithering rather than the PS1's native transparency.
      And MM8 got extras the PS1 version didn't have, such as CutMan and WoodMan as mini-bosses. They come with all new sprites and remixed themes from MM1 and MM2. Sadly you don't get their attacks when they're defeated. It also had a Bonus Mode with artworks, voice test and music test. And some songs are sightly different due to different instrumentation (except for Tengu Man's stage, which uses a completely different bgm)

    Here i prefer the SNES version over the Saturn or Ps1 ports because:
    - I didn´t like the added FMV, it has poor quality and everything looks very jagged as if they did a bad downscale from the original source.
    - The music. The Ps1 and Saturn soundtrack don´t fit very well with the prior X games, the soundtrack sounds more "jazzy" while the Snes sounds more like Heavy Rock that the seires was known for.
    - Loading times, at least on the Ps1 version, the Saturn version doesn´t seem to suffer much from it though.

Eu prefiro a versão do SNES...

    Just based on the Intro stage, the SNES version has better music. There is a such thing as too much and unfortunately, the saturn does this. Removing the hard electronic guitar from Zero's theme was an interesting choice. And giving the stage a more jazzy feel than an urgent feel through the music was not...ideal...?

      SNES cant do 320x224, while as Saturn cant do 256x224, and since the saturn's gameplay is in a frame, logically we can claim its the SNES resolution within Saturn's one. The lacking 64 pixels are compensated with this frame, same thing with previous VCDECIDE with ghost n goblins 3 comparison. As for PS1, it supoorts both 256x224 and 320x224, not stretched but snes authetic

    Rockman X3 vs Rockman X3 Special Edition
    Well for one thing the Special Edition added animated cutscenes. Production values seemed really high with some quality animations. However the opening cutscene for the intro when X and Zero destroyed that machine the image quality plummets. Fans of the original will be frustrated with the Special Edition do to the cropped image display compared to normal widescreen. Stick with the Super Famicom version unless your a dedicated Rockman fan and collector. Rockman X3 Special Edition 3 Stars

    I was actually surprised to find out I'm in the minority that prefers the CD music (though TBF I don't think either are that great).I'd say the PS1 version is the best version of this game since it runs at the original resolution. The X Collection comes close since it also does that, but the CD audio is noticably more muffled.
    This Saturn version is good but if you don't have a modern scaler, the borders and skinny aspect ratio are pretty distracting. It does have a higher FPS for the opening movie compared to PS1, and interestingly, the Saturn video was used in the X Collection versions.
